evening guys,

I plan to run my CSM squads with their standard bolt pistol & bolter plus CCWs for the whole squad. I'm wondering what the best way to model that is with respect to wysiwyg and such. is it sufficient to just model some of the marines with bolter/bolt pistol in one hand and a chainsword in the other and the rest of the marines with just bolters? or do I need to have a knife/chainsword on every single model? I'm curious to see how others have dealt with this to make it tourney legal.

Get some combat knives off ebay, cut the blade off and glue it onto the Bolters as a bayonet maybe?

I just modeled 20 CSM with the holstered pistols from the sprue on their hips (some left, some cross draw), mostly holding bolters one handed in their right hands and the chainsword arm on the left (mostly).

The icon bearer also got the grenade pouch and his chainsword is hanging from the hook on the end of the Khorne icon.

Gonna be wretched to paint probably, but they're WYSIWYG!

while I like this idea for style, doesn't seem like it'd count as an extra CCW... can't imagine swinging a rifle w/bayonet in one hand and a pistol in the other. then again, they *are* super warriors... so who knows? :p

True... Didn't think of that. Butt of the bolter as one CCW, bayonet as the other? :p

Maybe just some Chaosified combat knives somewhere on the model?

you, sir, have aparantly never touched the glorious CSM kit. There are enough knives, and chainswords, for each model to have both.

Just don't worry about it. If you ABSOLUTELY insist on putting WYSIWYG on every single last CSM line trooper (utterly unnnecessary, really, WYSIWYG is intended to make sure you can identify heavies, specials and characters, etc.), then give them a bolt-pistol and chainsword layout, and either strap the bolter on, or glue it directly onto the thigh or backpack as though it were mag-locked. I've gone and given my iron warriors gigantinormous chain-bayonets by attaching the chainsword onto the bolter... a full squad of them looks very attractive...

as to swinging a bayonetted bolter while aiming a bolt pistol: gun clicked dry, and popped up the pistol..... and they are power armored post human freaks, strength isn't much of an issue for them. Not to mention sanity, as they ARE CSM

To glimpse the future, you must look to the past and understand it. Names may change, but human behavior repeats itself. Prophetic insight is nothing more than profound hindsight.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

If you give them the bolt pistol CCW arms then you can put the bolter on their belt/back.
