Had the game day with the kids today (only one came) and we had a ton of fun playing Grimdark Future: Firefight and he really liked the new buildings. It was close, but he won. He defended and I attacked using the new buildings and such as his fortress. Forgot to take photos, of course.

After I got home, I assembled my Landing Pad, that'll be cool to play on next week!

Spent some time clearing off some stuff I had purchased recently. Actually managed to get a bunch of stuff started as well! Might have even more done by the end of the week. But for now I managed to get 5 Oathmark Skeletons finished.




Pretty straight forward and easy to paint. Mostly using them for D&D and Frostgrave. Only thing I will say about them is that the limbs are a bit spindly. I snapped them off once or twice accidently. Otherwise they are great sculpts!

Building a squad of 10 HH Marines with rotor cannons.

After these guys I think I'm done building infantry - unless I decide to add another character or two.

For HH I'll have:
1 character
2 tac squads
1 melta squad
1 rotor cannon squad
+ plenty of vehicles & dreadnoughts

Might add a unit of bikes or a landspeeder - just because I think they look cool.

Progress from 04 14 to now.

It's been ages but I finally rolled up my next Encounter for my Five Parsecs from Home campaign. I've been painting my landing bap but I'm a bit tired of painting terrain so decided to have a go of Five Parsecs, but then realized I've got to paint nine new minis for the new encounter so, yeah. Might start assembling and painting them later today.

Putting some paint on russian napoleonics, and earlier I tried to finish the assembly of landsknechts pikemen. I failed, will come back to them later.

I assembled and primed the new Stargrave minis for my next Five Parsecs encounter. I also applied some Milliput to their bases to make them look a little less like midgets compared to my other minis. The Milliput is probably going to take ages to cure, but oh well.

Then, I painted a dying Death Korps of Krieg proxy for my diorama and made more progress on a Gaunt's Ghost proxy musician (bag pipes, of course) that's been sitting around for ages, halfway base painted.

Finished painting the Stargrave minis for my Crew's enemies in the next Five Parsecs encounter. Also applied the astrogranite paint in their bases.

It's 30k day!

*Finishing up building a Sky Hunter squadron (marine jetbikes) for 30k.
* Trying to find the best SM options to deal with having to kill 30k Custodes (2 of my 4 opponents only have Custodes :().

And then I'm going to type up an alphabetical list of all the special unit & weapon rules my own units have. This'll part of the project will take awhile....
As is these things are scattered between 4+ sections of 2 books & have zero page references. It's incredibly tedious to have to keep looking through 2 books/4 sections as you're learning a new system.
For my force that ends tonight.

After that I'll see about printing 30k unit cards

I won a couple of awards for my Karl Gerat diorama and a rather weathered Soviet SMK.



The Gerat mortar and the Panzer shell-carrier have around 1000 parts total, the tracks are individual metal links that have to be joined with around 12" of brass wire, and the base is just foam with a wood veneer surround.



The SMK also has metal tracks, and I added a couple of vodka crates to the fenders because...well you can't have a Soviet tank without vodka.

Those are awesome Valkyrie! The diorama is especially awesome! Congrats on your win.

Back OT, the kids' miniature gaming club was on today and we played Grimdark Future: Firefight 2v2. It was fun. I played as the Elven Jesters with Not-Genestealers, vs Chaos Marines and Future Robots from the Future! They won.

At home, I played my next Encounter of Five Parsecs From Home. Which I frigged up a bit with the set up as I hadn't played in ages. But if I played it properly it'd have been more of a blood bath than the game turned out to be. Was fun, though!

Making more progress on stuff on my painting table. Been putting a lot of work in to get a full 2000pts ready for the Old World by refreshing my old Empire army. But also being distracted by other projects. Decided to get a Dogs of War Cannon I had been working on for 6th edition done. Figured I can use it for the Old World too.




I have base extenders for the crew and I know its on a round base but eh, It looks better on a round base. Now Im going to work on finishing a pile of old metal Skaven I have, mostly just because.

I am working on some of the last old metal harlequins.


Now the Death Jesters are already done, so the Solitaire next (since I have two and can only field one, I will do one in the old classic mode and one in a newer scheme.

Stripping and removing mold lines on IG Praetorians.

Painting Immortal Hulk and MODOK 2 for MCP

Crunching through armour trim on my warhounds and warlord titan for some games next week. Soul destroying.

Begun assembling some Mantic Deadzone robots.

Nothing today, but over this weekend the plan is:

* get the cardstock Alpha Strike Battletech buildings properly affixed to bases.
* finish the painting and bases of 3 mechs, then varnish them.
* purchase a bag of sheet styrene and transform a bag of hoarded packaging into more scatter terrain.

Rivets.

So many rivets. But they do break the monotony of black up.

Kit bashed a HH Moriat {sp?} with jump pack & 2 disintegrator pistols.
I'll see how he does against Custodes tomorrow & decide if I should build any more copies.
If I do build more I'll also need to do so on more of a budget.

Finally forced myself to start painting the black bits on my Mantic Landing pad. Pretty tedious, but got to keep reminding myself it's for the kids.

Started building my LI terrain as I wait for my Civitas City tiles to ship. Built a couple domes from the Manufactorum set, and now cracking on with my first ruined building.





The inside parts on the lowest floor are still blutac'd, will refine em a bit more before gluing them on. Also,, the piece needs some sort of base, contemplating on whether to go with the Old World unit trays, or with the classic 100mm x 150mm rectangle TOW bases.. I used just plain plasticard for my building bases before, but they are prone to warping at the edges and are difficult to place on a 3D table with slightly irregular surfaces.. Then, once the big pieces are in place and glued down, I still need to add more battle damage to the walls and add the extra rubble/gravel/texture paste. With epic scale, you cannot rely on the detail of the GW plastic bitz alone, it will end up looking toylike, you need to add smaller texture to the piece in order for it to read as being "realistic" in terms of sense of scale

It's challenging to make interesting looking terrain from the existin 3 kits (Civitas buildings, Ruins and Manufactorum), but I reckon I can make things work, as long as I dont hold back on the amount of bitz used for any single terrain feature. Those uninspiring looking buildings in the GW box art? Using only pieces of any single kit, which results in boring and monotonous looking boxes. Probably means I will need to buy more of these kits before I can have enough of stuff for decent tabletop coverage, but if that's what it takes, so be it. Great looking terrain is a top priority for me
