This is an open letter to the entire table top game world In general. Thank you. I remember kicking off 2013 and a big music festival. I remember thinking how 2013 will be my greatest year yet. I remember leaving the stadium in high spirits. Well 2013 has not disappointed me. This hobby of ours has kept me happy and estatic throughout then entire year. Before i started 40k i was In a very bad place. few friends, no social life and was even contemplating suicude at a few points. Well I got into 40k in the tail end of 2012 and that changed my life. I have made friends who care about me. I have had a great time at events and have made friendships I know will last along time, and memories that will last until I die. Even though im in a bad place again 40k and pathfinder and the people who I have made friends with keep me going. Although I still have not had a GF as of yet I remain in high spirits that one day I will find someone.
I just want to say thank you to this hobby and all the people who make it great, Except you mike, you can go die in a fire

Glad you found something to keep your spirits up!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you're about your mid teens correct? At any rate even if your enthusiasm for 40k wanes, don't take that as a license to hurt yourself or do anything like that. I promise you that in 20 years the things that you think are big livebreaking deals today will seem so trivial will be embarrassed to admit you felt that way.

And don't push the girlfriend thing too hard. It'll happen when it happens.

im 21. But I was a tad of a late bloomer. 40k helped me get out of it. And yeah, I realize that the GF thing isnt a big deal. Im not going to push it because I want to find a girl who like the same things I do, not go from girl to girl like some of my friends do/did.

Good to see something that's a complete opposite to the usual thread of "OMG I hate wargaming and GW so much".

And yeah, group hug everyone!

Nah, you can get bullied because bullying is good for you

Good to hear things are going well for you sauceman. Gfs are like cats when it comes to miniatures they tend to get jealous of the attention the little mans get, so perhaps a GF isn't a huge priority (least till you get them painted)

I hope all is well hotsauceman lol.

I just wanted to say that im glad you pulled out of the dark place you where in. I would give more credit to your self. 40k didnt change your life you did. It opend the door and you took the steps and put in the effort all on your own. You kept your head up high and over came what ever it was eating away at you. You put forth the effort and took the time to create friendships. Remeber you are stronger then you think you are and no matter what life throws your way, you have the Strength to over come it!

Hold your head up high and belive in your self, every bump you over come makes you that much stronger.

Nice post HSM. Glad you're in a better place now, Im sure everyone can relate to low points in their life and finding either someone or something to help you through it.
If you go to that dark place again though, talk to someone - whoever that might be, dont do it all alone and go down the other route you mentioned.

/hugs!

True, with plastic soldiers it is unconditional, no matter how many time syou get them killed.

You are awesome. Like SheSpits said, 40K and TTG didn't change your life. You did!

At least you are not stuck on a train anymore either.

Nice letter hotsauceman1, but like many others have said and especially at your age you have a lot more good to experience in the world. Stay strong, stay focused and continue to live life to the fullest while enjoying 40K.

A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the world as a Traitor. - Cardinal Khrysdam, Instructum Absolutio

Man, I love this place.

Lots of great advice and support from your friends here at Dakka so far.

Not a whole lot I can add to it, except to say that we all go through those dark places in our lives. It is, unfortunately, a perfectly normal part of living in an imperfect world. At those times, it is great to have good friends to help you through. With the experience you get from going through these trials, however, you will find yourself better equipped to help others through their dark times in the future. Times such as these make strong friendships even stronger, and that is a very good thing.

I think the hobby gave me a focus during my High School days too, but that was so long ago I can't say for sure.
