Has anyone else thought about this as a unit? Now having ravenwing on foot for a normal game defeats the purpose and you can just use vets. BUT i like to play games like city fight and what not and the idea of ravenwing adapted for that sounds cool. In the latest dark angels book about the ravenwing it has them Does anyone have any ideas of rules that could be used for this?

Since they train heavily with bikes, and that is their main specialty, I would assume they wouldn't be any better than normal Marines if they dismounted. I can't imagine they would be good enough at anything when not riding their bikes to warrant any specific special rules beyond what normal Marines would have. So I would say just use Dark Angels Tactical, Assault and Devastator squads painted in Ravenwing colors.

Sure. Ravenwing Tactical Squads are chosen as Tactical Squads, with the following changes;
The squad consists of 3 Ravenwing Tactical Marines.
The squad may be joined by up to eight additional Ravenwing Tactical Marines.
In any Ravenwing Tactical Squad that consists of at least 5 models, one Ravenwing Tactical Marine may be armed with;
A Heavy Bolter: +5 points.
A Multi-Melta: +10 points.
All Ravenwing Tactical Marines have the Skilled Rider USR.

What's wrong with just using tactical squads?
I don't think skilled rider has any effect on infantry models....

I can see Black Knights being slighty better then tac units if on foot, Other then that a normal RW biker on foot would be no different then a standerd tac marine.

At the very least they would be veterans but I think they should be separatd in some way from tac marines as they stand above tacticals as they were selected to the ravenwing from company vet squads

If I recall, weren't the Ravenwing still bike mounted, but there were some of the 5th company present on foot?

Just use veterans.
Its simple. Its easy. Its logical. It requires no bizarre balancing or special permission from your opponents. Its universal.
I find a lot of people get all tripped on making custom rules for every slightly unique thing in the fluff, when really, using an appropriate unit and a straight tripping ballin paint job will do the job admirably.
So yeah, vets.

I think it mainly applies to black knights as they have the good stuff. Rad and stasis grenades and corvis hammers

Well, for them, lets look at this logically.
A bike for a character is 20pts.
An ordinary biker marine is 27pts (well, Ravenwing, you know what I mean).
A Black Knight is 42pts.
A normal tac marine is 14pts.
That puts a bike (plus a few rules) at about 13pts for a normal marine. Lets take a pseudo-average between a normal biker and a character bike and call it 15pts.
Now, lets subtract 15 from 42, to give us 27pts. Cool. Leave them with their normal rules and options minus hit and run and skilled rider.
Done.
Use vets for normal ravenwing if you want, or just normal tac marines painted black. However you want to justify it.

If you are making custom rules for ravenwing, why not just make up something for dismounting during a game?
Let them do it in the movement phase, and from then on just use tac models with the wargear ravenwing normally have (ie bolt pistols)
They will be sub-par compared to tac squads, as they aren't equipped to work as line infantry.
I would like to have a rule like this in normal games that would allow them to get to 2nd floor objectives.

Thats what i am saying. Using them for city fight is not really viable because of that, my buddy has a 6x4 that has no open ground and buildings are 3-8 floors tall. They would be equiped for infantry work. What more does a space marine need then a chainsword and bolt pistol?

They are still great for moving fast through difficult terrain (albeit with a few crashes) and getting to objectives quickly. I'd keep them as they are in terms of points, stats and wargear, but allow them to dismount either at the start or end of the movement phase.
Also they should be able to remount their bikes if need be.
This to me seems fair, ultimately you are paying for an overcosted and under equipped infantry squad when they are dismounted, however it would ignore the stupidity of the emperors finest being unable to claim an objective due to a flight of stairs.
