As above mentioned, tiny little kittens. What? Theyc were in the middle of battle and even the "bad guys" love a full grown cat. Quite great when in a chair/throne trying to be menacing I guess.

It's a representation of a special rule that was cut after the model was made.
Let Slip The Kittens of War/Let The Cat Out of the Bag
Any model armed with a Kitten Bag may, once per game, choose to open the bag. All models within LOS of the kitten are reduced to Ld1, BS1, WS1, and are subject to Instinctive Behaviour: Awww. In addition, the model that released the bag gains an additional 20d6 S3 AP4 Attacks that round.

It contains all of their belongings. You see, the CSM are actually a bunch of space hobos. They bum around the galaxy, asking for spare change and gene-seed. Their invasions are really an elaborate mugging attempt.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Terminator armor has no pockets, compartments, or ways of carrying extra gear. Except for Grey Knight terminator armor, those guys have mastered putting belts on their suits.
No, chaos terminators are using ancient pre-heresy armor with no belt loops, so they're forced to keep everything they'll need during a campaign in little bags attached to their spikes.
In fact, this is the primary purpose of all the spikes on chaos vehicles and infantry. Glorified, ornate coat racks.
