Hi all! Just dropping in to let you know that our brand new post-apocalyptic skirmish wargame goes live on Kickstarter on Saturday 1st March.
In Across the Dead Earth players control persistent Gangs across campaign battles, assigning classes and building up their skills and equipment as they go, assuming they survive, of course!
The campaign is to raise money for the rest of the sculpts and production of the minatures an rules as a book. We already have three of the miniatures cast, and they came out pretty great:
You can find out loads more, including info about the Gangs and the Last War over at www.deadearth.co. uk, or like us on facebook at www.facebook.com/acrossthedeadearth

I love post apocalyptic stuff and I've been after a decent skirmish game for a while. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

..Wondering if there is any possibility of using my Fallout 3 miniatures in this game?
Can I ask, is it very open (say, something like 'Song of Blades') in that it will give you a wide remit in terms of how you can comprise your force and develop it?
Certainly very intrigued by this!

Can you tell us a bit more about the setting, such as what caused the apocalyse event and other info?

Hi!
Yes, you can definitely yes most, of not all, of your Fallout 3 miniatures in this game. Fallout was a big influence, and although the game is set in the U.K. I think most characters would still make sense. We're also writing an expansion which adds a USA perspective and bits of that are more Fallout like.
You have a very wide remit out building your force. There are currently 7 classes of character and each of those had a skill tree with various styles you can take that character in as you progress them, or just use these skill trees from the start.
There are also General "traits" and, of course weapons and equipment to totally personalise your gang. This game has been made by gamers, and we're fully committed to listening to other gamers in terms of adding features and I anticipate there being further classes and skill trees in the future.

It would be my pleasure. There's a fair bit of background and some fiction up on www.deadearth.co. uk too.
The game is set three generations after The Last War, a war which no one alive today remembers, but featured wide scale nuclear destruction in many countries and devastating chemical weapons and the spread of fatal diseases. In the U.K., with a bloodtype other than A and AB was wiped out in an instant, leaving a nation of ghost towns which nature is slowly reclaiming.
Now gangs fight for loot, food, territory and their very survival.
The Kickstarter page will feature some brand new art, so be sure to check it out.
Any other questions please ask...would have written more but on a mobile!

Sounds very cool, might go in for this since I have a table full of modern brick ruins incoming with my Mars Attacks pledge!
I love that concept art with the ruined tesco and the traffic all trying to get out of the city.. I don't think I've ever seen a wargame with the modern UK as a setting so this is really interesting to me... you could model the ruins of your FLGS or wargames club and the surrounding areas and then have a game there.
And I'm bloodtype A, so I got to live.

With you completely on the settings, we also use real local maps for campaigns splitting areas or villages up into territories to battle over, and then try to 're-imagine in a Post-Apocalyptic setting.

I was wondering about that - the motorway is headed in the wrong directions for a UK road, and the bus has it's doors on the wrong side for the UK (but not the continent or the US) - yet there's a Tescos there

Love the artwork.
Not as excited by the miniatures. The sculpts themselves are reasonable, but for a game like this where you are upgrading and customising your characters, I would much rather see sculpts in a similar style to the later Necromunda releases, with hands separate at the wrists to swap weapons in and out.

Really like the artwork and concept here - post-apoc is always a great setting and in the UK to boot (even if they are on the wrong side of the road and the city back drop is very USA...)
Are there plans to include terrain pieces in the KS? The smashed up cars look good and you can never have enough of these in post-apoc...

I would like to be able to do that at some point in the future...it's much easier with plastic than metal, as you can imagine, an plastic will "click" or "snap" on, where as with metal you pretty much have to glue something permanently, and plastic set up costs are way, way beyond the budget of a new, small company like us. With the upgrades we've therefore included a lot of things like sights and stocks which could be added to the same basic weapon on paper and doesn't require too much imagination to treat the physical object as having been upgraded when no physical change has taken place. We then have a lot of skills and abilities which influence a character's proficiency with a given weapon in different ways. For example, one character type can follow a skill tree which gives them better proficiency with a pistol, where another allows you to consider that same pistol to be "silenced".
As I said though, I do love the idea of having interchangeable weapons at some point, and it's possible we could produce metal characters with several arms so you at least get a choice at the beginning. Of course, that increases the cost of each character - quite dramatically in the sculpting phase.
Azazel - well spotted. Whilst I and the game are set predominantly in the UK, the artist of that picture lives in Poland - similar to the UK in the abundance of Tesco, but different in that they drive on the right!
Primalexile - be sure to check out the unpainted sculpts as well as the painted, as how a character is painted makes a lot of difference in my view. The sculpts are fantastic quality, and the castings some of the best I've ever seen. Whilst, obviously, it's my game so I might be biased, that's all credit to the casting company, Griffin Moulds, not me!
Of course, the rules are also available on their own and you can use whichever miniatures you prefer.

Stupid traffic!
City reminds me of Birmingham though, personally. Although it is almost certainly based on Polish city.
We are trying to get some terrain in as a stretch goal. Can't use the cares though as those are a toy car manufcaturers models which have been adapted and painted, the actual vehicle themselves therefore being someone else's IP. We've got some ruined walls and tyre stacks made which we will produce either as a part of the KS or in the future.

I wondered if the cars might be converted toys. what make / scale are they and any chance of a tutorial, the paint job is great.
Good luck with the KS, I'm maxed out this year with Aliens vs Predator, but will be checking out the rules for your game Don't suppose you'll be at any of the UK games shows to showcase the game will you?

I'll ask Bob, who made all our terrain and painted the miniatures, if he knows the manufacturer...I've a feeling they were a lucky chance find.
We don't have any shows booked because we have so little to show right now, but once we do, I'll be everywhere.

You can find cars of roughly the right scale for 28mm figures in UK pound shops
they're usually not great for intact vehicals as they're pretty cheaply made and lack interiors but are ideal for turning into wrecks

Ack. Here's hoping that there's still some left by Friday. Dammit payday, why do you have to come at such inappropriate times.
Ah well, but I suppose that there's no major difference between the early birds levels and their non limited alternatives. £5's not much more to pay given that we'll be saving a lot more compared to the models when their sold after the kickstarter. ^^
And yeah, the poundshop toy cars are perfect for this. Luckily enough I've been putting together plenty of post apocalyptic terrain lately for my Fallout blog thingy, some of which is modern stuff. I was going to sell those pieces off, but this game's given me a use for them now.

Remember that with Kickstarter you don't need the money in your account now, you need it the day it finishes/funds!
But I should think you're safe and there should be some left on Friday anyway, and yes, you'll still make a saving if you miss them, potentially a massive saving if you go for Loyalist and we hit the Stretch goal, as you'd get a whole extra Gang (5 figs) for no extra money!

I was really looking forward to this campaign, but the £13 ROW shipping charge for the £25 '12 Models' pledge level is just a total buzz kill.
Why exactly are you charging so much for ROW shipping? I constantly purchase miniatures from the UK and I've never seen postage costs anywhere near that high for only a dozen 28mm models.

You also get a rule book which I can see being much heavier then the minis (and the creator will have to have taken into account the extra postage for the bonus team which will be unlocked when we hit the stretch goal).
So £13 for 18 minis and a hefty rule book isn't too bad. I often see US retailers requesting that to post a single mini to Europe on ebay.

0.0 Well I've never invested in a Kickstarter before, but you've turned me. Though I'm thinking that it'll be funded before Friday, so I'd still need to wait for my money to come in then (as you said, once the thing's funded people need to pay). Or am I misinterpreting you? Rather is money only taken 26 days from now, even if it does reach its goal before then?
Ah, but damn, its a pity all of those Early Bird Season Passes all went, but... I'm still tempted by the regular one. Can you predict how many gangs/scenary/books/whatever you'll be releasing over the period that the Season Pass covers?
Oh have you made any banners/avatars for use on forums for backers? I wouldn't mind shoving in a banner into my profile here to publicise your Kickstarter.
Thanks for the info and good luck!

You are right in that you won't be charges until the end date for the campaign (currently 29 days away).
Those early bird season passes went very fast. I knew it was starting on the Saturday so looked first thing in the morning and they were already long gone by then.
