Normally I wouldn't vent in such a public forum, but my friends and family are not what I would call a measured bunch, so basically im on here to speak to the world of webs.

I broke up with my GF today and something rather odd has happened, I don't seem to feel ... well anything really, is this normal?

If you feel like the relationship has run its course then you may not feel much. I mostly felt relief after my last relationship ended because I knew I was done with it.

yeah I can see what your saying, I feel guilty simply because I feel like I didn't put much effort into it, we kinda fell into this routine and .. it got stale.

Search for happiness. If you weren't happy, your journey wasn't complete. If it seemed more work than it was worth, well. Consider your return of your investment of your time and effort. Learn from it, move on.

So you feel confident in your decision?

yeah I do, I don't think it could have ended any more amicable to be honest, no shouting, no recrimination, just kind of chatted for a bit and then we decided to split,

Sounds like it was for the best. If you didn't want to be with her, then move on. There's plenty of other fish in the sea

Well, you're not going to get any angry, fabulous break-up sex that way.

However I'm glad you handled everything in an emotionally stable and mature manner which speaks highly of you. Hope you find long term happiness when you are ready and lots of fun stuff until then.

I'm a heartless bastard, so I didn't feel anything.

There could be a lot of stuff going on.

If things went stale a while ago you might have already made you split, and come to terms with life without her before now.

And it’s also possible that there’s not a lot of emotion in the break up because there wasn’t a lot of emotion in the relationship in the first place. That doesn’t mean it was a bad relationship, but lots of times the love chemicals in the brain don’t fire, and so when the relationship ends there’s no withdrawal.

There could also be a delayed reaction, you might end up feeling pretty crappy at some time in the near future, as you start to realise what you’ve lost. That doesn’t mean breaking up was necessarily a mistake, of course, though people who have a delayed reaction often confuse it with remorse.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

Thanks guys I appreciate everything, I wanted to vent and it's something I just can't do with family and friends, it makes me feel better knowing that at an arms reach there are thousands of kind people willing to put in a kind word.

Sorry to hear that things didn't work out, sometimes though that's for the best.

This is however more suited to a blog or similar rather than the OT board.

NO harm done though.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
