Hey guys, I have a pretty much mint copy of the old Epic: Space Marine game as seen here:

How much do you think its worth? Trying to see if it is worth selling or just hold on to. I tried searching on Ebay, but there doesnt seem to be any for sale right now. Thanks in advance!

I paid £50 for two copies a few years ago. Granted, neither copy was complete but together they made one full set with added extras.

Put a price on it and see if you can sell it on ebay since you cant find any other copies out there. Might find that one guy who is willing to pay a premium price for a mint/near mint copy of the game.

My advice - stick up on ebay for 1p (or the minimum denomination in any other currency) with a weeks duration. Whatever it sells for, that's its value. Epic does sell.

Alternatively, if you are serious in keeping it then you'll need to invest in additional forces. As always with starter boxes you won't have enough for a varied game. Yes, Warlord Titans are nice to field, but sometimes you'll need to field Reavers. What about a Phantom Titan? Ork Gargant? Maybe you fancy Imperial Guard instead (Artillery Company!)? You'd need to buy the requisite expansion box (Armies of the Imperium, Renegades, Ork and Squad Warlords or Hive War), Space Marine Battles (handy for some rules) Titan Legions (for more stuff) or ad-hoc White Dwarfs for things like Chaos Daemon Engines, Flyers, Knight Households and Ordinatus. And that's just the rules...

The only bit thats really worth anything is the Beetleback Titan (assuming that its in mint condition). Everything else is either relatively common or obsolete.

The buildings will probably be worth something as well.

Alternatively you could just keep them and use them for Epic ;the Marines straight out of the box are around 3000 points (a smallish standard sized game) in Epic:Armageddon and they are pretty nice models.

Yeah, I think based on what I've read I'll be keeping it and maybe try and play a few games.

On a side note, the buildings are a little small, but work ok in dropzone commander. And DZC scratches a lot of the itches of Epic without having to drive 500 miles to find the other epic player in one's state/province. But GW would be able to pick my pocket again if they started up Epic once more. Especially if they did it in 10 or 15mm instead of 6mm. I think 6mm just doesn't have as a broad of an appeal.

Although if they just did an updated titan legions style game in 6mm, I would be interested. Not a lot of mech games out there like that.

I sold a copy for around a hundred bucks a few years ago. I'd keep it and play it though, honestly. Kinda wish I did.

All I need to do is walk 300 meters

There are quite a lot of Epic tournaments scattered around and there is still a healthy on line community (a good place to start) so its certainly possible to find opponents and it shouldn't be too hard to convince a grognard with GW experience to replay one of GW's best ever games.

2nd edition is an excellent game. Give it a few games and you'll be hooked. 6mm is easy to paint as well...

Lucky! I've still got my titans, space marines, some IG and some orks kicking around. But I've yet to meet a fellow epic player in the wild. Must help to live in the UK. Seems like Europe always has the best wargaming.

this is good advice, with one huge caveat: consider a reserve.

I know that often times, I will only sell something if I get enough for it, otherwise I'd rather keep it. There's no worse feeling than selling an eBay auction for a price lower than you'd pay for the item!

In my opinion Epic (some of the variants of the rules at least) is one of the finest games ever made by GW, it doesn't take that long to pick up and there is a wonderful synergy in terms of how the tactics work. Plus, the site of loads of tank and Infantry companies clashing amongst cities and across plains is something that is suitably, well... epic!

This forum is worth checking out as its got so much detail, discussion and army lists etc (hopefully no-one minds me posting this as it's not really a rival to Dakka)
