I've been trying to log into Mantic's forums for days now, and keep getting different error messages... This seems to vary by computer I use, and browser I use...

Does anyone know what might be up over at Mantic HQ?

(I wanted to ask there if the Rules Committee had any plans to look over the Dwarf Kings Quest Adventurer's Companion. It's really the only reason I bough heavily into DKQ, and it's, well. Not really that excellent right now)

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

Its a mess since they changed it. I havent been able to load the page normally in months. The only way that works for me is to open it in a private tab (on FF). Not sure if youve the same problem, but it seems likely.

(you *could* also try deleting your browser cache, cookies, history, but that didnt work for me, so.. eh.)

They're working fine for me - I have heard that browser cache is what often gives the error, but if you're trying different PCs I'm not sure...

But I made several posts at the end of last week, and check and I can log in and looks like I can post now, too... so the forum itself seems to be fine.

What they did wrong was pick VB instead of Xenforo or IPB

Have you tried the URL with the 'VB' prefix? http://vb.manticforum.com/

The galaxy is littered with the single-planet graveyards of civilisations which made the economically sensible decision not to explore space.

Does not work for me - so far the only thing that works is to open a 'private window' in Firefox.

So, I have just pretty much given up on their forums.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Yup. Tried all that. Not interested in opening an "incognito" window or any of that nonsense. I've contacted customer support, and they've said they've forwarded it to their web folks.

I'm guessing they're seeing a hit to forum traffic. But at this point, I don't care anymore. I wish 'em the best. I'm done.

Indeed. The traffic was reduced by almost 90% after the downtime and I believe it hasn't really picked up since the forum got online again.

They've at least managed to stop posts being held in the warp, awaiting improvement, but it seems like you need to remove all saved browser info, not just cookies. And even then it seems like it still doesn't work sometimes. For me, it worked after removing my web information and then following a link to the forum.

I had a problem with the browser cookies and cache that prevent the new website from loading. Whatever the problem is with the cookies they also kept coming back after I deleted them. In the end I gave up and wiped all my browser settings.

Not working at all for me. And as much as I enjoy KoW, I'm not fething with my browser, settings or cookies to possibly get around Mantic's incompetence (or incompetent subcontractors and Mantic's inability to get them to fix it), so I'm not bothering with their forums at all, same as yourself.

One PC needed history/cookies/cache cleared to access the new Mantic forum.

Another PC with the same browser will not work no matter what I do.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This.
http://classically.me/blogs/how-clear-hsts-settings-major-browsers?

Is their suggestion to their customers to "fix" "browser issues" to access their forum.

FFS, that doesn't even warrant one of Alpharius' "Mantic.. almost" responses it's so far from acceptable.

oh, and that link was included in a newsletter called "Next Level Gaming".

Once again, this is an issue with VB, there isn't a whole lot Mantic can do about it without canceling their contract and migrating to new forum software

The contract doesn't have a clause stating the software has to be functional?

It is functional, from a certain point of view.

I'm not a software guy, but I once worked at a place where a provider failed to make a major software function work for 2 years without actually being in breach of contract. Fortnightly meetings, requests every meeting, for 2 years, nothing.

Then perhaps this is the solution.

For half the price they are paying now, I'd be happy to provide software trhat only works on my own computer.

So you're offering to double the number of computers their forum works on?

It's the only solution, but I don't know how much money it will cost them. I think they should anyway, but I'm not really the sort of person who should be in charge of budget decisions.
