How many people drill the barrels of bolters or other slug type weapons?  Today during the MEX/ANG soccer match, I was removing mold lines from some recently painted marines, and decided to drill a gun barrel.  I liked the result so much, I drilled the rest of the 30 marines, and a bunch of guard tanks, grenade launchers, bolters, autocannons, heavy bolters/stubbers, and some kroot rifles.

I'm now a fan of drilling barrels, and was wondering if anyone else was!!!

I always drill the barrels of bolt weapons, or anything with a large bore. I don't drill lasguns.

Why did you remove the mould lines AFTER you painted?

I painted them about 4-5 years ago when I was new to the hobby and knew NOTHING about modeling, but now as my skills have advanced, I looked at my Marine army and said, "Hell NO", stripped the entire 2k army, and started from scratch.

Always drill. I'm with Gabe though, some things are too small to drill on a non-show mini like lasguns or pulse rifles. For those looking for a way out of drilling there are other ways. Syringes are excelent barrels. If you don't mind being called a junky you can get them at just about any clinic. The best by far are the ones meant for IV bottles (I think) as they aren't angled at the end. If anyone around here is in the medical profession you probably know more about this than I do, but they are perfect! Actually, I guess you could get brass tubing and accomplish the same effect. I never thought to look for it in such a small guage. The needle idea is better anyways because there's always lots of available women at the clinic. Now that's a target rich environment baby!

I drill all weapon barrels. The only exception is the tau that I'm very slowly assembling (somewhere along the lines of 3-4 years and still not completed. It's a labor of love you see. Anyways, I like the look of the pulse rifles without holes drilled in them. Reminds me of all the soooper nasty weapons I used to see in Image Comics when they first came out in.

Standing outside Jester's house demanding the things he took from my underwear drawer.

Anything that fires a solid slug I drill. Autocannon, Bolt weapons, assault cannon....

I've seen the Reaper Exarch with both weapon options and both look like things you can buy in sex shops. A weapon should not look like this, not even a Emperor's Children weapon. -Symbio Joe

It is only FOOTBALL in those insignificant regions of the world where the World Cup is more important than the Super Bowl. Real men call it soccer, and wonder what all the fuss is about.

Drill every slug thrower. Lasguns get a little lens painted on... on the newer Guard, it is already sculpted there for you.

its football. real men call it FOOTBALL, people who cant play that well and lose in the world cup call it Soccer. Superbowl is called american football cos thats what americans think football is, in England we play a similiar thing but we dont use pads for protection cos once again its played by REAL men, its called RUGBY.

That would be the rest of the world fellblade. but i guess thats what most americans would think, any country besides the good ol US of A is insignificant.

What you Americans call 'Football' is really Rugby but with padding and protection because you don't want to put yourselves through full contact.

I have won this argument.

P.S.  Please don't call England 'insignificant'.

We obviously have a far greater country than you, as we once ruled mosts of the world and some still show that they are allies.

What hav you guys ever owned? Oh yeah, an army that likes to shoot each other!

If we're playing 'my country is cooler than your country,' then I may as well point out that I win since the Buddha visited my country twice .

Relax guys. Take a breather, and see if you appraoch this differently once you've had time to simmer down.

Never thought using the word "soccer" would cause such an uproar.

When drilling, do you use your blade, or an actual drill?

Well, it's world cup time... and that's when perfectly sane people from around the world take great offense to just about ANYTHING that knocks their country.  Oh, and by the by.  I've played both football and rugby.  Football they hit harder... but you have to be in better shape for rugby (for all the damn running you have to do).

And to answer your question... use a pin vice for DRILLING out the holes.

You obviously haven't played proper Rugby.

It would probably kill some of your American Hand/football players.

Why do you call it football when you use your hands a lot?

did you get confused which is which?

I obviously HAVE played proper rugby against Samoans, Australians and the odd New Zealander team. I used to live in Hawaii, and there's quite a bit of rugby going on there.

Well, if you are too thick to recognize sarcasm when you read it, there's no point in me trying to explain.  Just enjoy watching the U.S. team choke.

Cheers!

I'd have to say that i don't agree that rugby is tougher than *american* football. While you might need to be a bit more hardnosed, rugby hits aren't at the same velocity as american football hits. When throwing football/soccer into the mix, you need much more grace and agility to play that sport.

I used my knife and loved the outcome of my barrels.

While I have the utmost respect for anyone anal, errr..., dedicated enough to drill out gun barrels, when I model I'm either drunk or high from the damned Vallejo paints I accidenty bought, so I try to avoid drilling.

Dude, what kind of Vallejos did you get? The only ones I can find are acrylic... you know, water-soluble? I've never gotten high from sniffing water vapor.

Well not coming from either the States or Europe, but the more neutral country of Canada I think my say in this discussion if very important. "Drill bolter holes" Watching the supper bowl is pretty boring, infact I think American football is so boring to watch, Ya sure they take a hard hit, but then the offence comes on and they have a 5 minute break before there on for a couble more minutes, not to mention and 30 second break after every 15 seconds of play. "Plus drilling your bolter holes can be a fun process to do" Atleast in rugby they are playing the game for however long a game last, Although all of you should watch real sports, like Boxing and UFC and Pride fighting, nothing like watching two men or women compete against eatch other who are willing to hurt themselves for your enjoyment, I say bring back gladitorial battles so we can see who the men with the biggest grapefruits are. "All in all I think drilling bolter holes will make your models look nicer and give them an edge"
