For a while now I've been saying the plastic Necromunda line might herald the arrival of plastic IG regiments. I always found it odd that GW finally gave the IG regiment-specific rules at the same time it pulled the 90s metals from their store. So Tallarn might have some nice specific rules, but you can't get the models! And let's face it plastic Tallarn would have to sell better than Cawdor or whatever, so I've been shocked it didn't happen yet.

Well, that might be about to change. A lot.

Before all this started a friend of mind went to a closed door retailer summit in Nottingham where they showed off some of the releases coming for 3rd and 4th Q 2020. There was some distraction or something so he even had a chance to take some pictures surreptitiously and knowing what I big IG fan I am he passed them to me. I know people are going to scream SALT esp over an unnamed confidential source but obviously I can't name him/her but this buddy has never steered me wrong yet.

And just as obviously with all this going on who can say if the release dates will hold, but here's what I got.

The pics are a bit blurry but you can see from the tag these are the new Catachans, I like that they apparently have men and women but worry that they're going for even more cartoony muscles for the men. I guess it's to justify their new Space Marine level strength. Obviously comes with more weapon options but I can't spot if it has a heavy weapon team. We might not be seeing all the options.

The Steel Legion (if I read that tag right) lose a lot of their WWII imagery (probably for the best) but now look more like modern infantry with integrated camel sacks, NBC gear and such. Much more high tech than the other regiments. Not sure about the bare heads. Also like the mixed male and female units.

Similarly the new Valhallans are less Space Russians and now more high tech great coat infantry. They're a lot less stocky than the Perry originals and probably won't mix well.

Tallarn are my favorites, I always like how their equipment was a mix and match like a unit out in the field too long. But honestly these guys look a lot more feral and rag-tag than I'm used to.

Similarly the new Cadians are more rag tag, no doubt as equipment supplies run low and they have to make do with that can be obtained in the field.

The Mordians get a completely new look. Yeah they have always been a hive world army and I can see why they'd have some more urban uniforms available but I always like their signature dress uniform look. To me it was always the essence of 40k, the madness of putting on your Sunday best to go fight aliens in the trenches. I can see the IP reasons for the change, but this will get a hard pass from me.

Finally the Vostroyans, already one of the most anachonistic armies out there (up there with the Mordians) now look less Napoleonic Russian and more post-apocalyptic. Not sure I like it.

Sounds like a wishlist to me. I mean...the big giant campaign that was going to change the 40k universe bigly only brought a few characters, I wonder what will push GW to bring out not one new plastic IG regiment kit but seven entire new infantry regiment kits. :O

I'd like to be wrong here though.

I think it's very likely IG will be updated soon. I'm thinking an entire range update.

They haven't released many new models for them recently.

They blew up Cadia.

They've been doing LCTB on many of the old sculpts.

And frankly the whole line could stand an update.

They'll likely use this opportunity to make them more in scale and IP protected

Pretty sure those are necromunds figs, female catachans are eschers and the tallarn are cawdor, cadians look like a blood bowl team. Poor troll effort 4/10.

Didn't you do this last year?

Plastic IG for the end of the year would be the best but these are clearly necromunda models.

Even though this is clearly false. I would still like plastic IG before the end of the year to be true. So I still believe it even though I know this isn't at all true.

Sorry Kid, but this is an April fool hoax. These Miniatures are not new. GW are just repacking Necromunda gangs and Blood Bowl teams and will sell them as IG regiments with a different paintjob. As expected.
