Struggling about in Asmos territory.

So whenever I finish another challenge thread entry I get back to painting my two boxes of sisters of the watch..
Yes you got that right, I bought in the earlier days when I still focussed on AOS.. TWO.. FLIPPING.. BOXES.. of each 10 of the most flimsy and thin parted containing elf girls equipped with bows, the kind of bows that bend around their bodies already having a cape bent around to begin with.. and long hair with eyes the size of ant man in the nanoverse.

That equates to 20<--- of these that I cannot glue together before painting. This means my entire table is full of elf parts I need to keep track of, and considering (granted by choice) many of the parts I'm painting in lighter colors .. it often takes 2 or 3 layers to make it set properly.

Last time I worked on them I therefor had to do 3 layers of light green on 40 seperate legs, and will have to do 40 seperate gloves aswell in the same color.. along with every other part of them as I only had their base layer of metallics done on the armor bits prior.. sigh..

Someone please come to my house and burglar these infernal mini's already... *cries silently behind a miniature filled bookcase*

Can anyone top this?
Ever bought something you weren't going to return (nor have) and either did or plan to complete painting you dreaded or are dreading continuing on?

(this is not an advice thread, only post your experiences!)

Robotech RPG Tactics.... I have two starter sets and some expansion sets for more Zents and Destroids.

I opened up one starter box, looked at the minis, closed it up. Put it away and have not looked at them since.

Hah, a good few of the mutli-part metal Trollkin infantry from Privateer Press fall into that category for me!

Plenty of box sets leave me with a pile of models I don't really want or use but probably paint sooner or later. Didn't pick up Leviathan in no small part becuase I finally painted up my Indomintus assault marines and didn't have a real need for Infernus. Of course, I found a marine holiday box from last year for about the cost of the storm speeder so now I need to figure out what to do with 20 intercessors I don't want.

The other things of big regret are often just things I pick up at a bargain or to hit free shipping or something. Completionist tendencies and the like. I've gotten better about not picking up stuff without the intent to really play it but I've still got to do a big purge, which gets much harder once its got paint on it sadly.

Let me tell you a tale of woe concerning 3! Necron Pylons from FW....

It starts waaay back in 2002 (2003?), when these things were new & had thier "experimental" rules on the FW site, and GW USA still hosted Games Day in Baltimore MD.

The 3e Necrons had been out for a while and playing with Monoliths & Heavy Destroyers as the only heavy choices was getting stale.
So I'm sitting at my desk scrolling the FW site one afternoon at work & I come across the Pylon.
Cool looking, good enough rules, immobile but i deem that's ok, and a bit pri$ey (but you know, FW...)

How convenient! A buddy & I are planning to attend GD in a few weeks when im on vacation. And FW is listed as going to be present!
So I decide that if FW has these with them I'll pick a couple up.
The night before we leave I go on the FW site. Window shop all the cool stuff, finalize my FW shopping list, re-read the Pylon rules & make sure I still want them

Go to GD, have a great time, end up picking up 3 Pylons Sunday as they were out of a couple items on my list.
Get home late Sunday night (actually am Monday...)
Decide I should print out the Pylon rules now vs waiting last minute later in the week.

And then i discover that only hours before, as the Monday workday began in the UK, that the FW guys had finalized/updated the Pylon rules.
They'd changed them from being "Heavy Support" to "Super-Heavy".

This was a real problem because the circle I played in at that time didn't allow Super-Heavies to be used.
(We'd voted on it recently & the nays had once again won).

Now I've got three boxes of expensive FW resin I can't use gamewise. :( :( :(
Had I known they'd be immenently changing the rules I'd have bought different stuff.

And they've been sitting MIB, in the back of my closet, ever since.

Of course eventually the groups attitudes towards Super-Heavies changed, group members changed, and the local shop switched a few times.
I could've easily pulled the Pylons out, built & painted them up, and been using them.
I've just never gotten back around to them.
One of these days though....

Ouch, big resin models sound harsher than what I'm dealing with..

Those Pylons should be worth like three times as much now. Just sell them, not like they are usable at all

Most of my stuff I bought and had regrets (pretty much half of the FW range that has gone oop, like Chaos Dwarfs that got their rules dropped as soon as I started assembling them) quickly turned into joy as I noticed there's a high demand for oop stuff which I can instantly turn into profit

Oh I could use them. Their rules are just Legends now days & we use Legends stuff all the time.
Could've used them years ago for that matter.
I've just never gotten around to digging them out of the bottom of the closet is all.

Partially painted those 1st edition Shadow of Brimstone miniatures.

Soft details, multiple pieces. Worst of all worlds.

Traded it away at a flea market for some games that are still sitting inside my car trunk.

CMON would much later have its Wild West zombicide, so I'd have plenty of western-themed zombies (and cowboys) for western miniature games I'd never get around to playing.

Also, don't miss Shadows b/c I have enough dice-chucker games.

I bought two Mantic dreadball teams, years ago of a miniatures stand at a fair.
One team was of armoured women and the other of thier Vermyn Skaven knock off's.
I fully bought them for conversion purposes as the picture on the box, appearantly displayed better models then the ones inside.
I am used to dealing with softer materials like finecast from GW, but the stuff they where made off was just almost rubbery. Parts like arms where way thinner than the ones of the same model on the box. Details where much softer to.
Its always fun when manufacturers use superior prototype models for thier box art.

A hemophobic Khorne berzerker, a germophobic plague marine and a sexy Skaven walk in to a Games workshop.....

So you paint before you assemble? That sounds like the issue.

Personally, I don’t enjoy painting so I assume most of my minis will never be painted. And if for some reason I decide I need to paint them, I bring the caliber of dedication and patience that makes Slapchop look like NMM. It’s as freeing as a breath of mountain air after the storm.

I ended up buying an additional RRT boxes just for kitbashing parts. I love the old Star Trek TNG background ships, like the Stargazer, that all used Robotech parts back in the day, so RRT feels appropriate for bashing with Star Trek Attack Wing minis.

But yeah, as intended to be built they’re terrible models. (Excepting the Zentraedi, which go together smoothly.)

No. Painting doesn't affect the mold lines at all. In fact, a primer coat makes it easier to find the mold lines. So I use colored brush-on primer, find the mold lines, scrape them off, and apply another coat of colored primer. No different than applying multiple layers of paint. When I'm done, I'm close to completing the basecoat stage.
