Honestly, I think it's actually a pretty good opportunity to explore the backstory of the BG and potentially other schools also. This is how you can cover material that they don't have time for in the films.

Years ago I would've been excited for any Dune related film or show, but I'm just not feeling it after the recent film adaptation of the 1965 novel. If it's on BBC iPlayer at some point I'll probably watch it...

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

They’ve got 10 millennia of political shenanigans and infighting to play with, so there’s definitely room to do some interesting stuff. They’ve avoided one Star Wars franchise failure (when you have 10,000 years to play with, don’t limit yourself to the last 50), but they seem to be falling into another; you don’t have to make your main antagonist a Harkonnen. It’s not all about the same three families, there’s the entire Landsdraad to consider. Plus it’s missing the point that they’re all bad, to one degree or another. The Atreides may try to be decent and honourable, but they’re still heavily militaristic, hereditary, absolute feudal overlords, which is not a good thing.

I would generally agree that the magic bloodline and couple families is a trap bs. But in this case the point of the BG is a breeding program. Paul himself is a Harkonnen from his mothers side. This is very specifically about a few choice blood lines being manipulated to create a specific end result.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

... or you could not try and cover all that stuff to milk a product line to death?

However, (Checks notes) this IS 2024.

Looks interesting, could be good. Depends on the writing, production value, etc. not opposed to the concept.

It’s not like flogging the ever-living heck out of the franchise wasn’t already started with all the spin-off books.

The problem with Dune lore is that it really doesn’t hold up to a grounded, historical approach. Asking “how did the Bene Gesserit form and what are they doing?” is only going to bring all the nonsensical bits of background into the spotlight. Now we have to ask how they share memories without a direct matrilineal relationship, how they can access their matrilineal memories, and why do those memories not cut off at the moment of birth. How does the weirding way defeat every other martial art ever invented. All kinds of stupid questions come up.

And if you need an example of why fleshing out the Dune background is a bad idea, Brian Herbert has graciously provided several.

I enjoyed the house books that were set right before the original Dune book. But while I liked them, they were just OK in the grand scheme of things.

A lot of the other books were hot garbage, and I stopped trying to keep up.

No Butlerian Jihad no thanks. If it's not "KILL ALL THE HUMANS" what is the point?

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I can’t tell if you’re serious or bitingly satirical. KILL ALL HUMANS Butlerien Jihad is the All Brian No Frank Butlerian Jihad.

A little of both. It would be an interesting time to explore but more on the latter than the former.

Edit: After some thought I don't think I would want a series set during the BJ itself but right after the BJ. Everything and everyone reeling after the effects of the conflict while also leaving much of it as mystery would be more interesting.

"Milk a product to death"? It will be two movies (really two halves of one story) and one 6-episode show over a 3-year period. That doesn't resemble the MCU even a little.

The Bene Gesserit and other schools were founded after the Butlerian Jihad, so this will be set in that general period. The trailer says "10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides".

Might be interesting. we'll see.
As far as more Dune material goes, as there is so much I would like to see stories spread across the entire time line of the universe. I think that would be neat but if it's shows then keep each story to one or two seasons and move on. No desire to be bogged down in 10 seasons of a single show again.

The rewards of tolerance are treachery and betrayal.

Remember kids, Games Workshop needs you more than you need them.
