Grimdark is really starting to become a pointless buzzword.
Curious if there's going to be a dark gunmetal, but I suppose these won't be reasonably available in Europe anyway.

Same point as anything, money. But it is quite fun/convenient to just reach for a premixed bottle in a shade you like, particularly for army painting.

In a sense they are, but many people who paint armies often want the "same colour" for every model. So having lots of different pre-mixed colours in pots that should be the same pot to pot (or near enough for most eyes to tell) is often superior over re-mixing colours on the pallet each time.
Meanwhile those who perhaps paint more unique models rather than armies or who are not painting cohesive army schemes or aren't as fussed might well find it easier to have a fewer number of base colours and mix as they go.

Best of luck I guess, but KS is probably the last thing I would invest in, specially with the way the world is going with huge tariffs and shipping constantly changing.
There are already currently so many ranges to choose from that I think this is trying to fill a niche within a niche.
With that said if they potentially manage to create one or two "must have" colours then everyone wins.

Per Wikitionary, it's an obsolete form of the word Tobacco (and one that they can probably trademark/copyright/whatever so no one else makes an ink with the same name).

Some people prefer complete consistency of color over the painting of an army. It's easier to do with pre-mixed than mixing yourself.
Not impossible, mind you. I mix whole bottles of paint together to have a consistent mix across an army. But it is a little less convenient than having premixed.

Except as noted above, 'tabacco' is not a made-up word, it's an obsolete version of the word 'tobacco' (for example, 'to-night' is an obsolete version of the word 'tonight').

I too don't love the constant churn of paint sets we have right now, but I'm also happy to see the likes of John Blanche get to put their name to a product in an era where Games Workshop and Citadel don't let you know who wrote a book, who sculpted a model or who painted it unless they're an influencer.
It's so jarring to read interviews and everyone is just a first name unless they're an author for Black Library where they're fully credited.

Duncan is known for his clean, base, shade highlight painting and the two thin coats are made for that. Triads and all, but “grim dark” style is the opposite of that really. Odd thing to put his name too. As good as two thin coats paints are there are lots of products that do a great job of grim dark already, oils, villainy inks etc because you need that subtractive quality ot paints to best achieve the grim dark look. Acrylic inks aren’t good for that, dry too fast, unless these inks are full of retardants it’s not going to work well.
Also the re paints and mixing etc, grim dark is basically painting using the Zorn palette, that’s the style, so mixing is an essential part of it, as soon as you get twenty models looking the same it loses its “grim darkness”. They should look like they are in the same grim dark light and place, not identical.
If I was looking to paint grim dark style, which I dont often, I wouldn’t look for an expansive acrylic range, I would get myself a good red, black, white and yellow ochre paint in oils and maybe Kimera colours and go at it. Villainy inks are great too and I use those in my every day painting so I would look at those. I wouldn’t think Duncan Rhodes.
This just seems gimmicky, if you want to paint grim dark you need to move outside the acrylic paint world.

Maybe they are liquid like contrasts or Xpress paints, that would help with achieving Grim dark style I guess. But yes I hope they can come up with a few must have pots. If not, well Im totally covered now.
I find the current Duncan range not particularly well priced.

I think people expect the two thin coats range to compete with gw pricing and to be cheaper, but they are actually a bit of a premium product and priced right for what they are I think. It’s the marketing is off, they should be pushed as a pricier but better option than GW paints. An upgrade you should be happy to happy a quid or two more for. But the packaging and names are all so tongue in cheek they look more budget.
My biggest complaint about two thin coats is there stupid nozzles on the bottles. Leak like mad, get messy as hell and are made wide enough for the agitator ball to get in and block it.

I kind of personally think GW paints can be challenging and not my favourite range, they have lovely colours though. Duncans 15ml are considerably more expensive than the my fav range Vallejos 18mm and I can see picking some Duncans very limited or specific colours that I Like but never the full range at those prices. I finally got the full set of new Game Colours with the case and will soon get the gaps with Modelcolours. What Im saying is that I reserve high prices for my Professional paints but for my hobby stuff I cannot see me paying that difference.
This new range will struggle to fit my collection since for grim dark things I do have very good options already W&N oils. I hope they prove me wrong though.

Duncan’s paints are at. Weird price point, even if they were marketed as high quality there are still better ones out there.
I agree with you, oils are the way to go for grim dark, if I was to try acrylics I would get the key Zorn colours in Kimera probably and go from there. It feels very gimmicky to release these grim dark paint sets.

Yes very true but a lot of people follow tutorials on youtube etc and being told "use this colour for these details" makes it much easier and accessible for getting painted armies on the table without having to experiment with mixes and ratios etc.
Duncan's paint range is pretty great with a wide variety (white star is the best flat base white on the market imo) and I've got quite a few of them to replace citadel equivalents so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on these ones.
