How do!

Here’s a challenge for you Dakka.

I’ve got a piece of music stuck in my head. I don’t know its name, and I don’t know the artist. But I’ll do my best to describe it.

I’m pretty sure it’s 70’s/80’s synth. I’d describe it as spooky carousel music, and I associate it with comedy and straight magic shows, and that’s what it was regularly used for on TV. That and tongue-in-cheek “investigations”

The bass line has a slight “squelch” to its tone. And it goes something like “Doo, Doo, Doo, doodoodoo, Doo, Doo Doo, doodoodoo, dodidodidoidio”

Last bit is quite rapid, like someone flipping their hand across two keys. The rest is quite slow, like a waltz.

Anyone got any ideas? I’ll knows it when I hears it straight away!

Spoiler:

Could it be Enjoy the Silence?

The only one I can think of that might fit your description...

Neither of those I’m afraid. But they are both legit bangers

Probably should’ve added it’s an instrumental piece.

It sounds like it could be from a soundtrack for a movie or TV show, reused again and again? Or do you think it’s an actual piece of classical music? Is it meant to be more spooky or humorous? Which instruments besides piano do you remember hearing?

There’s a guy in YouTube named Vanheteiro who puts out compilations of popular songs “you don’t know the names of”. Might be worth a shot watching some of his vids.

Would it be something used in Looney Tunes or Scooby Doo maybe?

It’s post classic era Scooby Doo. Definitely a 70’s/80’s synth piece.

I honestly don’t know if it’s meant to be spooky or funny.

Most frustrating!

Can you remember any specific show it was used in? American ir British productions? We’re the shows also from the 80’s?

Definitely BBC children’s shows. But can’t think of a specific one.

Was it possibly used in Dangermouse or Duckula?

Possibly? But I more associate it in my head with live action kids shows. The sort of thing used to accompany a walk through an odd museum, to add a greater sense of whimsy.

Defo not.

The tones of the “do, do, do, doodeedeedoo’ a kinda 8 Bit, same sort of tone as Adventure of Link, if that helps. Specifically the fight screen music.

But not the same pace.

Ok. So this is not the piece - but it’s close.

Specifically the “squelchy” base sound. And indeed the general 8 Bit synth sound I was trying, and probably failing, to describe.

How certain are are you that it was a television theme song?

Not a theme song, but used in shows as mood/incidental music.

Rush had a synth period in the early 80s and I think this showed up other media.

It might help if you could identify ANY of the shows you heard it in.

The problem is, I can’t remember the name of them.

I think I’m gonna have to throw in the towel here.

I just tried Copilot. Top suggestion is:

Also mentions things like Axel F and Doctor Who theme, which I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the Doc would recognise
