Subject: Any books covering 'small-scale' events?

As in title, but i'm looking for books (it can be a short story) where the events depicted are not big/famous campaigns, but rather, smaller scale petty stuff. So instead of books set on armageddon or Terra or Cadia, rather i'm talking about books covering small events like no name Space Marines from a insignificant Chapter going off to burn some ork farms or Guardsmen going inside sewer systems to root out mutants. That sort of thing.
The kind of events that people forget about when writing bigger stories.

I loved Assassinorum: Kingmaker by Robert Rath
It's about a team of Imperial Assassins and a Freeblade Armiger who must steer a Knight World from its path of swearing off its alliance with the Imperium.
It's essentially 4 people and an Armiger and no other support.

Brotherhood of the Snake is quite good for that. A series of short stories about a chapter that is otherwise not really explored in the lore.

The stories set in the hive city of Varangantua are basically like police or gang novels.

The Cain novels might suit. Whilst his actions during the 13th Black Crusade are touched upon? The novels don’t tend to feature any galaxy shaking things.

Spear of the Emperor is entirely contained within a specific area in Imperium Nihilus.
Brutal Kunnin and Warboss are both self contained Ork books.
Honestly, most single novels will be a self contained story not connected to a major event.

If you haven't read Spear of the Emperor as Gert recommends, you should check it out. It's a great book and was good enough to make me almost like Primaris marines.

As others have said, most BL novels are about "small" events. If you chose a book at random, it would more likely than not be about something that only impacts a single planet.
Unless you're looking for something with even smaller stakes than planetary level?
|
ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

If you are after truly small stake inconsequential nonsense, go read Daemon World

Virtually whole imperial guard series. Yes there is cadians, catachans and Valhallans here and there but all die and that's not something significant for setting and all books about some third rated campaigns. Especially recommending Fifteen hours novel

Will second the recommendation for Fifteen Hours and add an honourable mention for Titanicus as it focuses in on small scale fringe elements of a wider war (Cally Samstag's ragtag band of reservists, for example)

Perhaps Day of Ascension by Adrian Tchaikovsky since its about Genestealers taking over one Forge World and is self contained.
Or Tempustus by Braden Campbell, an Inquisitor goes to a world looking for an aquatic xeno who is worshipped by the locals, again it is a self contained story.

Or Rob Sanders' Redemption Corps.
I'm not recommending the book on any type of merit... other than it fits your requirements.

Yeah, one interesting part of Redemption Corps was that it showed a group of Genestealer orks. They acted more calm and organized and called themselves "evolved".

Heh, we have infected calm orks in Emperor's Finest too, so it's almost canon
