A small town at the foothills of the beautiful Cascade Mountains

Has anyone goto GamesDay and hear additional rumors besides those below for the upcoming Necron release in 2008?  They say its going to be a release similar to Tau Empires - fewer new model and streamlining rules. I have heard:
  • WBB replaced with FNP.
  • Necron Warriors and Immortals get SAP, T increase by 1, and point increase.
  • Phase Out gone!
  • Three different options of Necron Lords.
  • Veil is nerfed (sends unit to reserve, but can deep-strike next turn).
  • One new HS unit choice.
I don't see how Phase Out can be gone - I'd just play C'Tan and 3 Monoliths if that were to happen....  I'm sure if they do that, they would take that into account.

I think/hope that Monoliths are due for a points increase. They're pretty much better than a Land Raider in every respect for less points. I'd either expect the living metal rule to go away, or for them to be price at 250-280 points each.

FNP replacing WBB makes sense. Not sure about T5 Necron Warriors - but people doubted Tau having S5 basic weapons. It's not outside the realm of possibility.

Whatever they do, I kinda hope they make necrons less... boring...
How to do that with robots, i dont know.

Don't hold your breath... "GW" and "less boring" do not go well together as of late.

Necrons are the perfect way to make Jervis look good. No options or wargear to take except by two models in the entire army. Its almost like he wrote it...oh wait, Andy Chambers and Rick Priestly wrote it so I guess Jervis cannot take credit for it

of course, I am sure this is going to go to hell anyways, but I am perpetually hopeful....

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Y'know, I'm going to take the opposite tact on this one.

It is my firm belief that every entry in the New Necron Codex, right from C'Tan through to Tomb Spyders, will have as many options as the Carnifex does now.

I believe this to be true because I believe that before work on the Necron Codex truly begins Jervis would have been set upon by a bunch of gamers, angry at him for taking all their options away, thereby leaving them with only one option - his complete removal from 40K rules writing.

But he has to stay with specialist games, because Ill be damned if BFG isnt an awesome game that he wrote.

Warriors with slow and purposeful would be beyond amazing.

What I don't like hearing is how "necrons are boring". I can't be the only one here who actually likes the army, especially as something to play in pickup games.

What GamesDay did you hear this at? There haven't been any real rumors of Necrons that I'm aware of unless this just came out of the German GD, which this would be the first hearing of it.

Totally new rumors?! Wow, didn't expect this revamping ... All cool I guess, looks like 'crons just get nastier. Hope the 'lith points go up or it's tweaked a bit, and I agree no phase out may warrant some abusive-as-hell lists ...

Where's my salt? This is way outside the self imposed three month window and they have three major releases GW wants to talk about first-Chaos Apocalyps and Green Tide (also know as the Seventh Sign of the Apocalypse-GW finally redoes the Ork Codex).

In all seriousness, I think the Tomb Spyder is a huge opportunity.  Imagine the Spyder getting the Carnifex treatment...tons of options, and a completely redesigned plastic kit.  If they get the look right, they'd sell a ton of them.

Different Lord bodies makes sense, as would another HS choice (particle whip platform?).  Now, if they just take my advice on eliminating Pariahs as a unit and recreating them as embedded fear/anti-psyker weapons...

Although, given that Orks are scheduled for early 2008 with the second Chaos codex following, I think any rules would still be in a state of flux...

I think it's crap. +1 T to Immortals? There'd be no reason not to take them, at T6.

People said that about Wraithguard, but point cost and other liabilities such as weapon range and Wraithsight canceled out the advantage.

Unlike Wraithguard, the Immortals have a 24" Assault Weapon that's pretty good. T6 would make them ridiculous, and frankly that part of the rumor right there is what makes me wary about any of this being true.

Well that and S&P being godly on Warriors. I'd say there's no way that'll happen, but after the last round of codex's, who knows.

Agreed. Some people see them as boring, I see them as relatively straightforward and that's what I like about them. Not every army needs to be super customizable.

I like the idea of a new and improved Tomb Spyder kit. That could end up being really cool. And I wouldn't mind a beefier resculpt of the Destroyer - something that looks more like the original Jes Goodwin sketch and less like an Immortal with badonkadonk.

From Warseer:

No rending or combat squads? Right that's it, I'm throwing my Necrons (all three of them) in the bin now!!!!!

All these rumours sound quite reasonable (game wise) how true they are is anyone's guess.

It would be nice if they gave Pariahs a shot in the arm (and better models) I quite like their evil metal ubermensch concept. I'd like to see some sort of Pariah lord and some sort of rivalry / civil war type thing in the fluff as the superior Pariahs push their weight around politically with the current necron lords.

I think its a given that WBB is being replaced with FNP and has been a peristent rumor for awhile. No way they'll keep WBB with all this streamlining they're doing. Dunno I believe the rest of it though. Consider how much fewer models people will be buying if warriors and immortals are even more expensive then now? Hell you could probably field a 1750 point Necron army for less then a 500 point warmachine army. Don't see that happening.

The only other persisntent rumor about the necrons is there's supposedly suppose to be many more units in the next codex, to show the progressing rise of the necrons from their tombs. Looking forward to that, if true.

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

Post sources? That's the fastest way to lose your source.

Evidence? Wouldn't it be more fact then?

Sorry, I don't play with or against "Crons so no feedback here.

I'm not talking names and mugshots here, just something as basic as "I heard this at [whatever] GT" or "I heard this from a GW minion of [whatever] position" or "someone posed Gav this question at GD and he refused to deny it".

Without phase out, and with WBB changing, and veil being nerfed; there's much less of a reason to take units that count as Necrons. That automatically makes Pariahs, C'Tan, Spiders, and Scarabs more attractive. In fact, the main reasons to take a Lord- veil and orb are going to be different; so unless the new lord options are really good, C'Tan will see a lot more use. Scarabs are already good; but that might not be enough to make pariahs, um, not a pariah.

I really hope that Flayed Ones get an improvement. I love the models and I have a bunch of them, but as they are now they aren't even as good as Warriors for the points and they can't compete with Immortals for the Elite slots. If Warriors and Immortals get better, Flayed Ones need to or there really won't be any point in taking them. Given their huge claws, I'm hoping for rending, but I'm not going to hold my breath for that.

I agree TCC. I think the removal of WBB and raising the points of the common units is to encourage people to take more Pariahs, Flayed Ones, Wraiths and other units that you don't see in the current cookie-cutter Phalanx builds.

This is not only a good way to lose your source, but a good way for your source to lose his job and get sued on top of it. ANY source that's valid has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement, and G.W. is serious about those. I have a couple sources somewhere near or in the top of the hierarchy here in the states, and I would NEVER jeapordize their jobs by posting their names. Hell I'm usually too scared to post anything until about a month before it actually releases. Not too many G.W. Minions have access to the design team, or the materials before the stores do, so G.W. finding out who a leak is, isn't very hard.
