Starting a blog on orcs and orks:

Much like my blog messin' with chaos, I've begun messin' with orcs and orks. I'm actually building a WHFB orc army and building a few different 40k pieces for fun starting with this Nob:

Detail of the shoulder

More to follow very soon.

I think the neatest part about this model is both shoulders, I love the scar and stitches, very cool model, keep it up!

i saw that helm on a model in a white dwarf mag, i don't usually like orcs/orks stuff but that was an awesome looking model... so i very much like the conversion on the helm and the rest, especially that axe

Started painting the Nob, will probably have some pics of him shortly. In the mean time thought I would share some pics of fantasy models that I'm building. The goal with my fantasy army is to make the entire army without a single model repeated, now considering the 2250 pt army is probably anywheres from 130 -160 models it may be kind of interesting.

The prizes I won at last years Chicago GT for my Khorne Demon army will become the backbone of the army (I knew I shouldn't have told Dave Taylor I was going to build orcs next , thanks Dave I blame you). That means lots of black orcs.

First up:

I've found the new Nob heads work nicely. Starting off slowly, to get the hang of the figures, simple head swap added a few little details.

Next up a bit more detail, playing around with a few things, definitely want a chaotic feel to them with lots of variety in armor and such, need big spikes, and more dead body parts, scraps of armor here and there. I doubt I'll use much plasti-card plating as GS and BS is easier to work with at this scale.

And more of just changing some things around, trying to use many cool parts, and again adding many details. I'll be intermixing snots and goblins and grots throughout the army as I go.

Gotta have glyphs:

Small update this time. I'm looking to do a lot of carnage with these guys. So consequently you're going to be seeing lots of body parts strewn about. Big plans, Big plans. That means heads and other things will be showing up all over the place, I've done plenty of skulls with the Khorne Demons, time to do decapitations I guess.

I've also started a few of the fight scene squabbles for the back ranks of normal boyz, gotta have those. Obtained some more Nobs, plan to fantasize them, for the more powerful boyz. Been working on the army list a bit also, but it doesn't really matter much, because they'll probably get stomped on by the more powerful books out there, and also due to the fact that I really hate new Nightgoblins, not as much as I hate Elves, but enough that I know they are not what I want for this army. Anyways its turning out to be loads of fun. Probably will take me a century to paint everything, but thats how it goes.

Another small update, not much of any progress to report with my new army, but I have been playing with a few things to distinguish the heads, while doing a whole lot of commission work. The goal with my orc army will be not repeat a single model in the army, this may be just one of the ways to do that. Also obtained a Wyvern.

Haven't shown this here yet, but a couple of months ago I played a tournament with my Khorne Demons, one of the larger tourney's here in Wisconsin, and I won this nifty custom made helmet for Best Appearance:

Working on a fantasy orc army, this is the WIP of the first shaman, decided not to use the existing metal ones. Had some feet laying around from a past conversion so I thought it would work on this model.

Much much more to follow.

More of my orcs for my army, I've had some metal nobs in storage for years thought it was about time to do something with them, so he'll be a big bruiser in my upcoming army:

And then I have some of the new plastic generation, I'll be sprinkling in a few of them also.

I'm toying with a bit of carnage on my black orcs, the models are so large its very hard to put things on their 25 mm bases, so maybe putting things on the models themselves will help spruce them up.

Great stuff so far. The small changes in each model will really make the army awesome. Can't wait to see these guys painted up.

Thank you guys for the really kind words. This army is going to take awhile to build. I've already scrapped my boar riders, to work with the new ones coming out soon. Probably by the time I get to the goblins, there will be new ones of those also. Going definetly have fun with this. I've decided not to use the new trolls, while cool looking models, they just don't work for me. I'm going to go with a Reaper Miniatures model for my Troll, and basically just run one in the army, sort of like a spawn model.

Yea my Messing with Chaos blog here on dakka is alot of fun also, a lot of the building stuff shown on it is commission work, the painted stuff on the other hand is all mine. For me orcs and chaos (and space marines) are the most fun in both 40k and Fantasy. Others can have Eldar, Tau, Elves, and Dwarves, I'm not into them. Lately I've been painting historicals, namely Imperial Romans. Maybe I'll blog Warhammer Ancients, as I gear up for 2.0.

Dude great green stuff work. I wanted to do this with black orcs for a very long time. After consideration i decided not to. You did a great job. Using these as nobz in a conversion is very tough, considering their extensive connection to fantasy. I find this inspiring.

Oh and i must ask, what kind of "brown stuff" do you use?

No problem. The brown stuff is from the same manufacturer as the GS. I use Kneadatite.

If you are struggling with smoothing out GS, try BS as its less sticky and also sandable. I've also done a bit of a tutorial on making armor plates on my blog and in my "Messing with Chaos" thread.

very nice conversions. Being the owner of an Orc army myself, I feel kinda jealous.
