I'll start this as a new thread so that people don't get confused with two different people's army pics. All pic's are uploaded in the gallery here on dakka.

Just a little background: Across the North Atlantic Ocean BLACKHAND started his Skaven 40k army, a few days after he started his blog my Skaven that where to be used in the same way arrived. We seem to have different but close ideas. For a while now I've wanted to have a custom army for 40k. So I got off my lazy bum and started. I will say that in the end BLACKHAND's army will look better than mine, but mine with still look pretty nice

BLACKHAND's Blog is here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/308749.page

Plan is to use Clanrats as standard guardsmen, Plague Monks as officers and special characters, and Storm vermin as carapace vets. I will have a P.O.W. guardsmen or two with my army in case a issue is raised with the size of the Skaven.

Aye he has floating castles. I won't go anywhere close to that. I travel to hit up tournaments when I can, and not everywhere would let that be used without hassle. I hate hassels

Very nice Seafox, I like the power weapon glow I don't think I could ever be that brave to try Object Source Lighting like that.
The "warpstone rod" on the lasgun is pure genius!

Are you going to add warpstone gubbins to the Chimera, I would like to see how someone would Skavenify a chimera, the rusting is a good start.

Glad to see your pics up here on Dakka, trust me it will help keep you motivated in your project having your work here,

An of course I will be watching.........

I hope it will not become some kind of dumb competition, but constructive teamwork.

I certainly don't think it will go down that path, I'm hoping to pick up ideas..for instance with Seafox's permission I would like to steal his idea for the warpstone rod in the top of the lasgun, it's such a nice touch and will tie them together with my warpstone powered plasma pistol.

I can't tell from the photo... is that warpstone rod painted in, or is it a bit of one of the Necron gauss weapons?

@Kubik-This will not turn into a competition, more like two different ways of approaching the same custom army. BLACKHAND's will have more custom work done, mine will be a much more simple but still good looking army. The idea's between the two of us will probly end up making both of our Skaven armies a bit better in the long run.

@BLACKHAND- Go ahead and steal the idea I am going to use your plasma pistol idea with green stuff. My chimera has some Skaven adjustments to it and a few more planned. I have "slime" coming from the side ports(water effects are still drying) Other than a Skaven banner I'm not sure what else to add. All the tanks are going to have the Vostroyan 1st born paint job.

@Gitsplitta- Just painted on using the direct lighting paint job.

@Regnak-The green was perfect for Skaven it's P3 Necrotite Green (Warmachine paints)

how about sticking a warpstone engine onto the Chimera, I'd always imagine it to be slightly more steampowered-esque if that makes sense? I may have a go at converting up some of my old Leamun Russes if i am brave enough to battle through my loft for them!

I got this mainly done, just need to get his banner done once I get my paints in I can work on it. This is my Commander, Floating around looking down on the other Skaven on a modified eldar guardian weapon platform. The signs of the horned rat and nurgle(opps it's upside down) are painted on the platform. The whole army will have scattered pieces of Marine,Eldar and nid on either the bases or on the models.

I like the floating eldar platform, I have visions of Warlock Enginseers with necron scarab legs those Skaven are crafty buggers!

I think I will have to find some of those P3 paints, that green is so vivid.

Very cool commander! It may look good if you have a couple of rats dragging the platform on chains to show that they do not understand the tech. I shall be watching closely! Good work so far.

I got a bit of work done last night. One of my ideas I'll be using, will be putting a banner on one of the vets with a tzeench symbol, the clanrats with khorne symbol, nurgle with the plague monks, not sure what will be my slaanesh units though. If your wondering why the chaos gods are on the Skaven is simple that my teammate for doubles games uses chaos marines making a more believable team.

Finished the banner on the commander. I don't like the banner, I should've When a bit more colorful. Thinking changing the space marine helm would do it, but one of my main opponents has marines of that color.

This is one of 3 melta spear guns. This army is my first attempts with green stuff so the parchment around the gun isn't the best but works The spear is the stormvermin spear with the blade removed, a chopped space wolf bolter, a chopped end of a Cadian flamer, and the wire/hose from an eldar splinter cannon.

Didn't get any painting done today, was out playing 40k at the club. I took my 1k (mainly unbuilt) Skaven guardsmen up against a chaos marine player's whole collection (1500ish points).
After the first shot of the day took out his defiler, he knew how the day was going to end up. At the end he was wiped out and I had lost my Chimara, 3 vets and 15 standard infantry. A dark day for the world eaters. Busy days upcoming. So I'll try and get some painting done but it'll be tough.

and this i like

on the side note. Did you have any issues about scaven beeing sforter than guardsmen, so easier to hide / harder to shot over barricades?

Well there is a glaring difference between our armies....yours has a FAR better general!

If I took 1k of IG up against 1.5k of Chaos I would have been wiped off the table

@kubik- I have one P.O.W. guardsmen atm that is next on the to be painted list. I will have this guy in case of a issue of size of the Skaven. I'll just move him to the area when something is in question.

@Young_logan- many thanks.

@BLACKHAND- I play at least 2 games each Sunday which has gone a long way in getting better at giving my opponent one hell of a fight. After that game I finally got through to him about how useful more rhinos would be for his army. Even with the 35% of the board covered in terrain I picked my placement well to get a lot of clear shots. I regret not taking a pic to show just how crowded the table was with blocking terrain.

Took the wife out clothes shopping today...to say the least I got no painting done today. Going to get the master of ordnance done late tonight or tomorrow.

I need your guys thoughts on something. I need to tone down the effectiveness of my army, so I've removed the Executioner Leman Russ. In its place I'm unsure of but I think I'm going to go for rough riders. My idea is to use the spiders from battle from skull pass. I have now close on how to make the skaven fit on them other than to use the tiny rats that come with the plague rats. Any other ideas on mounts that would work that come to mind? this pic has the spider mount that I would like to use, the P.O.W. and tiny ratman on the left and a clanrat on the right.

I like the idea of the giant spider, will need some GS work to get them to fit though.

Maybe pick up a box of LotR Goblin Warg riders?
Chop the goblin at the waist then put the torso from a clanrat on there, the size should be similar, may need some waist pouches and gear to hide the join but would still look pretty cool. You could even get away with saying the Wargs are giant rats.

I gotta say , why make your army LESS effective? unless your regular opponent is getting sick of being thrashed?.

But if ineffective is what you want then rough riders are the perfect unit, mine suck the big suck and are generally a complete waste of points

It comes down to I'm trashing my opponents badly. I face marines, chaos marines, orks and necrons. all that ap3 and ap 2 is just overkill. I'll post the list and you'll see that taking out marines at this point level is easy to do. Orks fare the best against me. If she would only drop the points she has in shooty ork's and just move flat out with her trukks I would lose to her.

Command squad- bodyguard, missile launcher team, master of ordance

Veteran squad- carapace armor,1 plasma pistol,3 meltaguns

chimera- flamer replaced the heavy bolter-vets ride in here

vendetta-normally empty, 10 man squad if objectives need to be taken

platoon blob- commissioner with power weapon, platoon command sqaud with medic and 1 power weapon, 2 ten man squads one has a power weapon.

Leman russ battle tank

Leman russ Executioner battle tank

take more troops and less tanks. Maybe use H/Weapon squads. as your heavy choices instead of the tanks.

She needs to take plain old Ork boyz, with Choppaz once they are in HtH they just eat through everything. Including Marines.

Been an overly long work week got little to nothing done. Teaching my wife how to play (she is doing amazingly well) and helping the 5 new guys we got at the club get the hang of the game also took a chunk of time out of my limited time. I did manage to get my master of ordnance done. The book I tried to make look like it was inked in blood...didn't quite turn out though. I made a GS "strap" for his vox and ended up putting eyes and fingers on it to make it look like a captured daemon with a poisonous snake paint job...again iffy results, but good enough to make him look special.

W.I.P. pic with W.I.P. terrain piece as back ground.

@Anthony_D- I'm a treadhead less tanks is blasphemy.

O oops my bad didn't quite read it that way. ya more soft bodies on the ground would get the other side a better chance. I find it tough to make a decent list that doesn't just smoke the new poeple I find my nids I can make lists that are much more forgiving vs other players, which leaves my Skaven less played than I would like.
