Good day Dakka,

I thought I would get a little bit of typing out of the way ready for some pictures to be uploaded shortly. I will take the next few moments of your time to explain where/what I aim to acheive during this blog and my time here on Dakka. I have set this blog up to receive Dakka's help to keep my motivation up and running. After all we know how much feedback helps keep us interested in our projects.

So far I have waaay to much plastic to paint. 1x Mines of Moria set and 1x Assault on Black Reach. I also have 1x Space Hulk set to paint as well as a LARGE Imperial Guard army and a Space Marine army. But all that aside my current project I need to keep the motivation for is my Space Marine army. The chapter I have chosen is the Novamarines force but it will also contain a small contingency from the Invaders Chapter - How small only time and patience will tell. With this additional chapter it will provide a break from constantly painting the same colour.

So far I have managed to paint 1x Terminator - in the Invaders scheme - to a completed stage (apart from based as I will do this once the whole army is completed) and I have also basecoated a further 4x Termies. I will upload a picture of this shortly and I will also list the exact amount I have to paint and colour code this to show current progress.

Sorry for the small wall of text and for now take it easy Dakka.

BK

So I have now managed to get some photo's of the Test Miniature. These aren't the best photo's I could've taken but these will have to do until I learn how to use the camera more.

In the above pic the Termie has been photographed front on.

In the above pic the Termie has been photographed left side on.

In the above pic the Termie has been photgraphed right side on. I used a standard Skull transfer from the transfer sheet and then painted the stars points on individually. Which I hope I will not have to do again as I have now found a transfer sheet to print for them thanks to BoLS.

In the above pic the Termie has been photographed from the rear.

Thats it for now. As always c&c much needed

Hey Bro Kaldanis, looks really interesting, and I know how difficult it is to fit these projects in around life family and friends! You can do it!

I will do you a deal - we can create a perpetual project blogging machine. I will start a sisters blog, when I put up my 1st post you can comment on it, then you have to put up another update of your Marines.. and so on.

What do you say?

Solidly painted indeed, the gold is especially good. I look forward to seeing more!

Hey TT well it sounds to me like a genius plan. PM me when you have your bloggy thing up and underway and I'll be sure to have a looksie. Always interested to see a WH army and how creative one could get with them

Perkustin - Thanks for the Kind comments.

My progress so far on this project has been slow. So far I have 1x Termie fully painted as pictured. I also have 3x Termies with basecoat and wash ready for the next stage, and another Termie primed. I also have 1x Rhino chasis (top peice of model) painted up in Invaders colour scheme. However, upon reading that the Invaders use drop pods for transport and rely on Scout, Tacs and Termies, I have now aborted further painting on said Rhino and will strip this down ready for the revised Blue and Bone of the Novamarines.

Yesterday I also started painting up the test mini for the Novamarines (pictures will follow shortly).

For now stay safe.

So I have made some slight progress with this blog.

Below is a test mini ofor my Novamarines. (This is still very WIP so all c&c is appreciated on this).

Most people who have successfully completed a Novamarines army always paint them Blue and White. Now I thought I would stick with the fluff and try to achieve the true colours of this chapter - which are Blue and Bone. To get to this stage of the Bone colour all I have done is basecoated with Tausept Ochre and then applied a coat of Bleached Bone followed by a Vallejo Umber Shade wash.

The helmet has been painted Blood Red - yes the orange highlight is awful and will be repainted over - to signify that this Tac Marine is a Sgt. Being Novamarines are a founding of the UltraSmurfs I thought I would stick to the way they display rank.

troy_tempest I'll now be anticipating your next update.

Take care chaps,

BK

Is the invaders chapter one of your own creations? if so more info please (I always enjoy a good custom chapter), the novamarines are interesting, they are one of those chapters that are official but dont get much GW love

As for the whole motivation thing - A good thing for maintaining motivation is to switch between painting, modelling and fluff, if you switch between the tasks you dont burn out doing just one. And have various treats for completing tasks. so for every squad of rank and file troops you do follow it up with something interesting (such as a sternguard/vanguard squad which you can get more creative with).

plus posting on here has a way of keeping you motivated because showing projects as they develop alows you to get other people input (which can lead you in directions you may have not considered).

Enough Hi-jacking lol.

I really like the gritty novamarine, looks like he's fought a pretty dirty campaign. I would suggest maybe a highlight of whatever the basecoat was for the bone white; looks a tiny bit too mucky for my liking. The blue and red though look fab.

As far as the Invaders go they are indeed actually a codex chapter. If you go to the chapter codex section of GW website - http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat440176a&categoryId=400028§ion=&aId=9600100 - they will show you an Invader marine. In the SM 'Dex they are listed as under strength after all out assault on Eldar Craftworld Idharae. It then states that the Eldar - in revenge - laid waste to the Invaders - albeit under strength - home world Fortress Monastery, so now they are a space based fleet. The Invaders only deploy Terminators, Tac Marines in Drop Pods and Scout Companies - I assume that is because thats all that managed to escape the Eldar wrath?? The 'Dex also states that they now currently operate in a support role for the Novamarines - which is why I am working on a combined force of Nova's and 'Vaders.

the novamarines are interesting, they are one of those chapters that are official but dont get much GW love

This is why I have decided to do this. I - so far myself - have not found anybody on the interweb who have combined these two - under fluffed - spectacular forces. Also I have not so far seen the Novamarines painted to their correct colour scheme. I love taking an under loved and displayed army and turning it into something I imagine it would look - not saying I am a great at this stuff but I do try and that's all that counts eh?

As for the whole motivation thing - A good thing for maintaining motivation is to switch between painting, modelling and fluff

This is why I have green Marines and blue/bone Marines. If I get bored of 1 colour I can switch to another.

I really like the gritty novamarine, looks like he's fought a pretty dirty campaign. I would suggest maybe a highlight of whatever the basecoat was for the bone white; looks a tiny bit too mucky for my liking. The blue and red though look fab

The Bone isn't completely finished. I will be working more on getting this to the right liking later. So far this has just had 1 basecoat of Tausept followed by layered Bleached Bone then it has had a wash of Umber Shade.

TT, you will have an update in the next few hours so you can keep your flood of visitors happy

For now.

So update time...

Now the image below is still very WIP so all your c&c is appreciated.

The above image shows the current progress so far... The Chest Eagle/Skull needs to be cleaned up as well as a smoother coat for the Bleached Bone.

OK so as we can see Digital Camera's really dont do a crap painter any justice LOL... In this image as stated previously the Bone does need a desperate clean and the Purity Seal has now had it's final coat of Blood Red as well as the helmet recieving the same treatment.

I think once this mini is cleaned up and finalised I think it will look just as I intended for this force. However, that being said I dont hold much hope for speedy progress while painting Bleached bone as it is a bitch to paint nicely. But the pro's manage it so I'm sure it can be done

Overall the mini looks better in real life than these photo's give credit for. To the naked eye it looks decent. to the digi cam they look like my 8yr old painted them

I'm afraid that will be the main update today as life will start getting in the way in the next couple of hours.

For now chaps and chapettes.

Definitely prefer the lighter colours on the Novamarine.

I know what you mean about the pictures too, macro photogrpahy highlights EVERY minor thing even stuff you dont notice with the naked eye. for me at least everytime I photgraph a miniature I notice yet another mold line that I have forgot to clean up or that 'spider web' thing that glue does sometimes, almost looks the hairs attached to the model, very frustrating

So,

Sat on sofa at home this morning - I do have a job, however one has been signed off sick (which is a great excuse to get the plastic soldiers sorted) - I thought about making a company champion. After digging through bits of kits and sat pondering, I decided to do the insane.

I carved up and stuck together bits of GW new Death Company kit. I will upload a pic shortly of my creation ready to receive comments for the Dakkaites out there. I have also finished the Tactical Marine Sarge now and will upload finished pic of him too. I have only made slow progress as been busy with life. That said though slow progress is better than no progress...

Stay tuned

Company champion from death company eh? bring it on sounds interesting.

Doing the insane can end with interesting results, I remember going nuts and cutting up forgeworld bolters for bits to convert into silenced combi-meltas, that made me pretty nervous at the time, but the end result was worth it.

So, on with the very slow progress. Not achieved much at present as everytime I try to sit down and paint I lose concentration due to sickness.

Apart from carving up the Death Company I have only 90% completed 1x Novamarine and he is the Sgt test subject that has appeared previously. However, I will now include some near complete photo's of him.

For the length of time I have spent on him I am proud of this miniature. Was recently looking over Roleplayers Blood Ravens and this inspired me to spend a lot of time on each mini. I am in no rush to complete this army and have no deadline so I thought a leisurely pace would be fine.

Also as promised previously I have attached a very WIP photo of the Company Champion.

Also pictured below is the current work subjects I am slowly working towards completion on:

So thats it for now but c&c as always is much demanded.

Hey TT,

Thanks for being my 1 follower

I'm gonna close this bloggy thing. People start a blog to receive other people's input to help with motivation, but 1 thing I have noticed on this site is unless you paint to Roleplayers or Grey Deaths standard then other people's blogs dont really get much attention.

Thanks for the people who did comment along the way.

Hey, those Novamarines are nice!!!

It's not something we're used to seeing, you're giving them a good treatment!!!

The minis look awesome from afar, but closer up it seems a bit "grainy", if you see what I mean, as if your paints were thinned down enough... Am I wrong?

Good & striking job though!
