So I finally started my own blog (conveniently skipping over the whole introduction thread thing), I have been inspired since reading a Loyal Alpha Marine Fandex to make a Space Marine Stealth Team and maybe incorporate it into a themed army

http://www.masteroftheforge.com/files/pdf/loyalalphalegion.pdf

There is the file, on page 5 it makes reference to the stealth squad

I have ordered a bunch of parts which I am currently waiting to be delivered so I can starting getting some mock-ups together, because everyone loves pics

This is my first project since my 10 year break from painting and modelling, so dont necessarily expect GD winning stuff here but I do want to make something cool

Now I realise there isnt anything to comment or critise about yet but I am always open to other ideas.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually there is one thing you folks of Dakka might be able to help me with, in the fandex the wargear section doesnt seem to be clear as to whether marines would have either close CC, Bolt pistol and bolter or CC, Bolt pistol or bolter. Want do you guys think?

I am so rusty when it comes to rules and stuff.

Sounds like a good idea, and I'm happy to be the first to comment I hate it when no one responds to my threads, so I'll make sure to stay in touch with your blog.. As for your question, I don't see what you're confused with? They have a combat knife and a bolt pistol and a bolter, as far as I'm concerned..

Thats how I read it but it just sounds like a lot for a model, might look a little 'busy'.

Mind you, its been over a decade since I picked a rules book so I have no idea what's legal anymore. As I would categorise myself as a painter/modeller and not a gamer I guess I should go with the cliche of 'cool instead of rules'

thanks for the feedback.

The bolt pistol need only be represented by a holster. Just press mould one or make a holster shape out of plasticard and glue on the handles snipped off the boltguns when gluing (waste not want not).

I am quite a big fan of kitted out 'spec op' marines, am doing some myself! So i look forward to seeing what you come up with, and possibly stealing your ideas

In the newest Space Marine Tactical Squad (I would know, I just made an unboxing video for youtube on it ) there's a holstered bolt pistol

A proper holstered bolt pistol? one that has space for a magazine not the normal holstered pistol. Its about time there was a proper one

and can we get a link or a pic please?

Right, it's just a pistol.. Take off the clip and glue it on! Then put GS around the mag to make it look not too maggy. Or I guess plasticard, though I've never used that stuff

Well my plans for test pics today took a bit of a nosedive I ordered the wrong pads and received terminator pads not marine ones (NEVER order parts before you have had the first coffee of the day). I have GS'd some silenced bolt pistols in holsters which I will try to get pics of them posted tonight so at least there should be something to look at.

Loving the idea of a loyal alpha marine squad. However silenced bolt pistols? I think some of the SM scout boxes come with them (along with some holstered ones if i remember) How can a bolt pistol be silenced? I realise the actual shot can, but each bolt shell detonates on impact..... its going to make a noise one way or another. It would be cool to use the Sternguard rules and try to modify the clips, (try a belt feed, CSM style or whatever) to represent a silenced ammunition. Just a thought...

Well my camera seems to have died on me so instead I am going to try and get some of the ideas about the chapter I have been toying with making tentatively called the Shadow Reapers

Spoiler:
Originally called the Aurora Knights there were still a relatively young chapter eager to prove themselves in battle, they had been conceived as a fleet based chapter and as they had no permanent home world (and only recruited from the worlds which they had liberated) they had only managed to get up to full chapter strength for approximately 100 years despite this they showed great promise as warrior sons of the Emperor. They had been conspicuous on the battlefield for their ornate red and gold coloured armour and their willingness to be in the thick of the fighting often committing the whole chapter to a campaign and rarely leaving anything in reserve. The origin of their geneseed is an issue which has become a point of contention amongst the scribes and bureaucrats of the Adeptus Ministorum on Terra due to conflicting records, one set of information lists the Blood Angels as their Progenitor another lists the Raven Guard, however the chapter shares none of the genetic traits associated with either chapter.

It was this eagerness and bravado which almost cost the chapter its very existence when after a battle against the forces of Chaos their chapter master, Sepherus Dyeus, intent on obliterating the enemy ordered the chapter fleet to chase a fleeing Alpha Legion war band, pursuing them relentlessly for days, passing through several neighboring star systems. Even after the chase had ended and the foul forces of chaos went to ground on the death world planet of Erebos They doggedly refused to cease their pursuit. Ignoring established protocol the young chapter master made what was to be a fatal error, instead of waiting for support or even fully communicating his situation to the other commanders involved with the previous battle Serpherus Dyeus decided to act. Following the chapters preferred method of battle deployment every single drop pod and Thunderhawk was simultaneously launched at the planet. Too late came the realization that they had been drawn into a trap as the darkness of the supposed death world was ripped apart by salvo after salvo of heavy gunfire which tore through the descending army and decimated their number, almost half the chapter had died before the first pod hit the ground. The remainder of the chapter, the ones that actually made it to the planets surface alive faced numerically superior enemy who was determined to spill the blood of the foolish marines that had so readily fallen into their trap. The pocket of resistance that had gathered around Sepherus Dyeus found like only the sons of the God Emporer can and made a valiant effort to fight back and turn back the tide of hatred that flowed toward them however even this collapsed when the chapter master himself fell in combat with a dreadnought of the Alpha Legion.

By the time reinforcements had arrived on Erebos they found little more than a desecrated tombworld littered with the bodies of the fallen and initially it was thought that the chapter had been destroyed in its entirety and was initially reported back to Terra that the chapter was no more. This however was not the case, and as the support fleet was preparing to leave the chapters last remaining battle cruiser "The Umbra Falx" limped into range and managed to request help. In total 115 souls escaped the massacre on Erebos, lead by a veteran Chaplain Ephraim Nyx. Although the geneseed of those that had died was lost to chaos forever and the majority of their vehicles totally destroyed or abandoned during the withdrawl from the planet the chapter lived on. Determined not to repeat the mistakes made his predecessor Ephraim Nyx redesigned the chapter to make better use of the men left under his control, focusing on stealth and subtlety Nyx lived by the adage that the Emperors Space Marines were a scalpel, a tool of accuracy and precision not a blunt hammer designed to bash the enemy into submission. Gone was the brightly coloured armour of old, replaced with a dark grey and the ceramite plates infused with Cameoline fibres usually seen in scout cloaks to allow the marines to better hide in the shadow which had once been the realm of the enemy.

Please excuse any grammar/spelling issues as its currently 1:15am and I am going cross-eyed from all this typing

Well It took 3 days and 3 cameras to finally get some pics together, they aren't great but at least they give an idea of what i am trying to achieve (camera that finally worked was a 4MP antique)

The paint scheme I am working with - dark grey with bone coloured trim

The Silenced Weapons

And an early WIP of the stealth marine - a mixture of forgeworld, velard studios, catachan, assault marine, ravenwing and sanguinary guard bits and he will have chapterhouse shoulder pads soon

C&C welcome (except about the quality of the pics, I already know they suck)

well I found something very interesting about greenstuff if you allow it to 'mature' (by 'mature' I mean lose it) in a cupboard for 10 years its much easier to use as it doesnt stick to absolutely everything

Woah where did you get the Dornian heresy 'Mk16' armour? You should post links people would be very interested. Btw i dig the holster and the guy looks pretty nice.

BTW i dont think the 'Muzzle brake' (i think, the lateral hole in the actual barrel) would be left uncovered for a silenced weapon. Lol starting to sound like a gun nerd.

but that was a long time ago who know maybe its all changed.

mind you the simple rule seems to be use small amounts amounts, maybe I was just using too much

Trick with GS is to use lots of water on the surface your working on (if it's not a mini), water on the GS (to keep it lubricated and workable), and on your hands/fingers (so that it doesn't stick to them).

That's what I've always done and never had any SEVERE problems.

The Mk 16 armour is from an Ebay seller. I have some too, and am going to use them for the exact same purpose, with the same helmets, simply for a DIY chapter. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

I don't post, I lurk. Have been for a decade.

Nope, I don't post on B&C and I am known as Asylum_Inmate everywhere I post and play

the armour comes from this reseller - Mrs Velard they usually put up a couple of sets a month so keep your eyes peeled

those helmets match the armour pretty sweet, so do the chapterhouse shoulder pads, they all have the angular layered look common to modem stealth technology

Well its been a few days since my last post and I've had some spare time due to being off work injured and in pain (which sucked, big time, not the being off work, the being in pain bit) so I have pretty much finished off the assembly of whole stealth squad (backpacks have only been blu-tacked on for ease of painting), and so for my loyal readers, well readers, (do I even have readers anymore?) I present massive pic dump number 2.... brace yourself

Spoiler:

Marine 3

Marine 4

Marine 5 (Squad Sargent)

Couple Of Squad Shots

As usual it's not until you blow them up to full screen size do you really notice that despite your best efforts there are a few mold lines left and a few little tidy up jobs that need to be done prior to painting, and they will indeed be taken care of.

Bearing in mind I have only 2 styles of leg, one style of body and used the same helmet on all of them (to maintain the stealth imagery), I think I have managed to make them look as different as possible. I have tried to make them look as if the can operate away from the main battle group for extended periods of time so they are carrying a lot of kit now. Also with overlapping armour plates on the shoulder pads, stomach armour and helmets and the angular look to the graves which echoes modern stealth technology and hopefully pays homage to the original source material.

Will hopefully be doing some more fluff/background sometime in the next few days as well. C&C as usual please, would love to hear what anyone else thinks.

Errm, Idk whether somebody already mentioned it, or you're aware of it anyway, in addition to silencers SM also have silent ammunition, stalker bolts iirc. Although silenced weapons always look cool if you ask me.

This is the reason that all the bolters have the box magazines from the forgeworld bolters (I was quite nervous about hacking them off for the combi-meltas I can tell you). I had tried one on a bolt pistol and it didn't look right so they kept the standard magazines, plus if I had changed the magazines on the bolt pistols there would have been no point in making the holsters for them as big magazines would have been too bulky to keep attached to the bolt pistol. The other alternative was to use sanguinary guard bolt pistols but I am saving those for another specialist team in my army. That might be project 2.

PS thanks for stopping by Baiyuan, it was talking to you on your blog that was one of the main reasons I started my own
