Hey dakka! While sort of being new here and checking out all of the brilliant P&M blogs I thought I would start one myself, as I have returned to the hobby (proving to be good with dealing with stressful times!) Anyways managed to pick up a captain + command squad combo box for pretty cheap, and rather than bother with painting a pre-existing chapter I thought I would create my own! Rough fluff is that they are called the Emperors Watch - a chapter based in the eastern rim of the Imperium tasked with protecting the area from the increasingly audacious Tau.

So lo and behold here is my test figure! Melta guy from the command squad, still WIP (bone colored helmets will be for vets/sergeants only) Don't get too excited my painting ability is pretty poor, and only camera I have at the moment is an iPhone

Just a quick update managed to finish the test marine's base (all done bar markings which I haven't decided on yet, will do later)




Started working on the Apothecary, only on basecoats at them moment, got my DofE expedition next week however so have to put this on hold for a week!

I quite like it! I'd save the red outline for your command squad here, and go with a slightly more muted outline on others if it was me (will make the red have even greater impact that way). But that is a fantastic first marine!

Thanks! And I was thinking the same, I'll probbaly go for a more muted blue for the squads themselves (sarge's will have the one coloured helmet so they can stand out). Will avoid gold like the plague as I hate painiting it and I'll essentially be painting invaders this way, most of them are suffering from a bad case of being dead

Thanks! Currently got 2 tactical squads and a dreadnought ready to be assembled so I'll probably keep it at that and add some fancy once they are done. Anyways sorry for lack of updates, I've been on a hiking expedition in the French Mountains the past week! I have managed to finish the apothecary, also going to need to build a 6th man for the command squad as I don't want to tackle the freehand of the banner just yet. Going to build some more stuff before I paint another couple of guys as shamefully most of the army is still on sprues

Finished the Company champion, not sure if I'm happy with him, power sword looks good bu the lack of much red has left him looking a bit two-tone, anyways here he is:

Its been ages since I've last posted, mainly due to real life stuff so I haven't had time to do much progress at all. I have signed up to the 'Tale of Many Gamers' thread in an effort to get some real progress this year. Over the past few days I've been working on the fourth member of the command squad, he is still incredibly WIP but in enough of state to be posted here:



Over christmas I got the start collecting set which now means I have a 'legal' army, current standing is:

Power Armour Captain (primed)
Terminator Armour Captain (primed)
Command Squad (3 painted, 1 WIP and one to be built)

10 Marine Tactical squad (5 Assembled, 5 to be built)
10 Marine Tactical squad (All to be built)

Dreadnought (primed - lascannon, plasma cannon and assault cannon still interchangeable)

Just a quick update, more progress on the current marine, should be finished soon!



(Yeah I paint far slower than many guys here!)

I think you've got a great color scheme going on and I like everything you put up so far. I'm glad you're keeping the work going!

Started work on the Banner holder, proving to be a long task (basecoats need a few layers etc) and im planning on shading the banner face but not doing free hand yet since I'm not ready for that yet. Here he is in a WIP state:



Next after the Command squad is a dreadnought and then some tactical marines!

Nice! I've got one of those banner guys too, i'm feeling a bit intimidated by all the empty space on the banner, I like your color scheme on it and the way it's... layered? if that's the right word

You know my problem! Definitely going to wait to free hand it. And thanks! It is layering, a bit easier than highlighting and still creates a decent look of depth

Finished the banner guy today, not terribly happy with the finished result but its good enough for the moment (probably as good as I can go)! So I have finished my first squad, only took a month or two

Next up I'm going to tackle the (venerable) dread, as it's a veteran in the Dreadnought I want to a significant amount of the bone coloured accent colour, but worried about overdoing it, so this may take a while.


Overall plan is to get this, my captain and two 10-man tactical squads completed before any further investments

The banner bearer and the squad look great! They don't need to be all fancy, your work with the colors is very solid.

That's a smart plan too.
