LOL, I can always count on you Rama...count on you to pick up on one thing and never let it go, like a rabid dog with a bone

Unlike the tervigon legs, I have no problem changing the head for Scent-the-Wind, I will just need to find that perfect head..in fact can anyone suggest a sprue that has a bald SM head that isn't yelling and weirdly massive?

The original beakie sergeant head... I have like... thousands of them...

Uggh..Sorry bro but I'm really not fond of the beakies, in fact I trade em all to a friend who is making a pre heresy chapter. I'm thinking of a more stoic look on the face and a bald head that I can add ques (plaits that warriors had) and warpaint to.

Actually I was kidding... the bare head that came with the original plastic beakies was terrible. Definitely had pushed the limit of what plastic molding could do back then.

I think the head I'm doing for Telion looks terrific (comes with him)... it's definitely and older person though... probably not what you want for Scents the Wind. You know, that's a very Native American sort of name... is that what you were looking for? Might make for some very interesting modeling possibilities...

Yeah the sabretooth marines started out as a painting test, then I remembered the "walking with beasts" (british documentary on extinct animals) episode with the sabretooth lions on the savanah and imagined them hunting sabretooth cats on the plains which in turn led me to an native american theme.
I want to model purity seals as feathers like the DA ones, lots of tooth amulets and black warpaint. My Recon specialist Walks-in-Shadow will have the lower half of his face covered in black warpaint and carries a cut down "chainknife" for close in kills, that kind of thing.

I am in the process of biggerising a set of marine legs for my "warchief"(wolf guard counts as) named Red Bison who is gonna carry a power axe from the sanguinary guard sprue and needs to be big and intimidating. So yeah they have evolved from the idea of copying the marvel Sabretooth's costume into a real chapter I feel.

Again the problem of finding decent heads is stumping me but I have tried to be creative, I'm using the half cyborg head from the sergeant sprue for my Melta specialist. Fluff-wise he took a plasma blast to the left side of his face as a blood fang and when he rose to grey hunter status the took the name Eats-the-sun and began toting a meltagun, he likes to see his enemies faces as he burns them off, kind of carthartic you know

I see your problem... just did a little google searching and came up with zip. If I blunder into something I'll let you know.

I like it! I do think you should work a bright colour in to the scheme, however to provide some relief from all that brown.

LOL, the complete opposite , I'm thinkingof adding black accents to contrast against the drap colours.

If I did add a brighter accent what do you think it should be?

I think these heads would do well for the Were-cat ones. I don't know if you can get just the head.

Nope. The Alkemy minis are mostly one piece minis.

Despite them being one piece I would almost buy them in order to chop em up, but as I don't plan on making a whole army of these guy I don't think I will go through the hassle of ordering them from the UK..plus the postage is more than the cost of two of the models
Thanks for the link tho Green, always appreciated

Ok so these next pics are of my Infiltration and Recon Specialist, Walks-in-Shadow, who is VERY wip.

The only thing I am sure of is that I want to keep the cut down Chainknife, its reversed hold, and to give him a crouched stance as if he is skulking forward..I'm not sure I have the stance quite right....

Sorry the head was already primed bfore I carved it off the AOBR sergeant so it's hard to see in the pic, and don't worry the chain knife is nowhere near as messy in RL as it is in the pic.

Now please don't bombard me with hate but I am seriously considering leaving the shoulderpads off this guy..I know, I know, its wrong in so many ways but hear me out.

I want this Walks-in-Shadow to look as sleek and ninja like as possible and by leaving the shoulderpads off he has a much leaner silloutte. I plan to add a shallow rim to the edges of the existing shoulder to make it resemble a normal shoulderpad without the bulk. Y
You may have already noticed my attempt to whittle down the lower legs into a shape that follows the calf a lot closer, again this is to give the whole model a leaner look...plus sometimes the marine legs remind me of disco flares and that kinda annoys me.

C&C is welcome, very welcome.

Cheers

i would recommend just one thing:

if said chainknife was used in combat, i think it should get twisted so that the chains face the marine than the opponent. meaning: when using a knife in a downwards swing technique the edge is mostly to one self faced?

and for your main work looks charming as hell and i realy would love to see a whole chapter done. all thumbs up grat work man!

Have you considered using scout arms on this guy?

Love the chain knife. I don't know if it's plausible, but a smaller engine would hit the spot.

As for the pose, maybe hunch him forward some.

Someone earlier mentioned the hot salt tech. I have tried it and it works out fine for stuff like repositioning tyranid tails etc. It would work fine for something like a scout pant leg or a marine hand. I would not try it with something like a marine leg unless you were going to cut out a little wedge at the back of the knee and then just bend the leg back slightly. Your work looks great BTW.

Pestilence Provides.

@victo von doom@ thanks for the suggestions Victor. I did in a brief moment of madness consider slicing off the chain teeth and reversing them but with the multiple joins I have already made the whole thing is getting pretty delicate! I still see him using the knife both ways as well, a knife fighter that uses a reversed hold will still flip his knife around to stab and if Wals-in-Shadow goes up against powere armour I am sure he would use the knife with theteeth facing the right way, though he would still be getting up close and personal which he likes.

@Anung un Rama - I did think of scout arms buuut...
1) I would have to buy a whole scout box to get the arms and I am on a tight leash model buying-wise.
2) I still want him to be covered in power armour to represent the 3+ save, I didn't want to get into arguements about WYSIWYG when I am already altering the armour....would have looked pretty cool though :(

@Good Green - Thanks Green I arm most of my Guard seargents with cut down chainswords, I feel that you would need power armour to swing a what is effectively a chainsaw with one hand and actually do damage. Don't know where I would find a smaller engine though.
As to the pose If I get a chance to do some work on him tonight I will post a pic of a more forward leaning stance, I still have more work to do on his legs, I am going to go all the way and try and add exposed ankle hinges and shape the calf armour even more, the more I look at the legs on a marine the more I wonder what the designers were thinking in terms of anatomy and mechanics....unless space marines are built like gibbons of course.

@senacherib - Thanks bro, I will have to start gving heat bending a go as opposed to chopping legs up, I may try it out on the Sanguinary guard open hands i have as the pose they are in is not quite natural.

Cheers

Ok buds, I'm afraid it's been a long week and tonight I just wanted a project that was a bit of fun...So I have had a go at a conversion that everyone seemed to want done...

....Say hello to the greatest Vindicare Assasin of the Officio Assassinorum, Codename: Deadpool!

I need to wash his rifle a bit and am tempted to file even more off his head to get a thinner profile but that's all I'm up for tonight.

C&C welcome!

Cheers,

That deadpool is the business. Has this become a fav comic character request blog?

In that case I want a Marv from Sin City, Cassidy from Preacher, and Rick from the walking dead. Or an amalgamation of all three could be kewl.

Haha, Nah it's just a schizoid thread is all, can't decide between the marvel Brotherhood and Native american marines...screw it they can be both!

TBH a collection of comic characters lends itself to a 'munda gang more than a marine chapter........

Yay, Deadpool! This thread wins!

The vindicare pose really fit's the character. He could use a little more detail though. Try to make all the skulls on the model into the Deadpool Logo. You know, like the one on his belt buckle.

I would also paint the belts brown to get a little more color on the model. And let me know if you find Katanas in the right scale.

Very cool Blackhand. Must admit I haven't kept up with comics for a long while. My era would be more like Thor/Spidey/IronMan/Hulk. My favorite was Ghost Rider... make a pretty cool chaplain on a bike wouldn't you think?

Man I've opened a can of worms now huh?

@Agro - Thanks man!

@tony_nids - Its' a pretty easy conversion, the hardest part was working up the courage to carve up the head of a $20+ model

@Ultra_mortalitas - Glad you finally found the thread bud

@TyraelVladinhurst - What I sad to Tony_nids

@Anung un Rama - The skulls would be easy to convert but I will need a new brush to do the detailing, brown on the belts is easy, but dude, do you know hard it is to find katana in the right scale? I saw some on a blog the other day and the guy said they were confrontation goblin swords but I can't track them down, he was using them on tau they looked great. Any one who finds them online feel free to drop me a post!

@Gitsplitta - Thanks man, you should really try and track down some Deadpool comics, he's a great combination of deadly killer and total smartass, kinda like spidey on crack. Oh and thanks SO much for putting the ghost rider idea in my head, I don't read the comics, I have no use for him in an army but now I will probably build one anyway...my painfully empty wallet says thank you also

@tony_nids again - Thanks for mentioning the Sabertooth SMs and yeah I'm liking how they are turning out too. Having a bit of trouble biggerising a set of legs for the pride leader but I think it will be worth the hassle to add more variation to the vanilla marine poses.

It's funny I always liked the look of marines until I bought some and started trying to pose them in a realistic and characterful way...now I realise that the standard tac marine is made to be a rank and file trooper, not the individual elite warrior the fluff makes them out to be. I understand the theory that a unit of toally unique models looks chaotic but with a unit cap of around 10 models would these really be the case with marines? I feel there is a real gap between the fluff and the modelling possibilites when it comes SM, I for one would like to see GW do a pack of arms and legs in different poses (at rest, leaping, etc..) that would allow everyone, not just manic converters with too much time ) to create an army that reflects their vision. Sorry rant over

Cheers,

BLACKHAND
