Really love the Thallax personally - as the Lexi description states

along with the replacement of most human sensory organs, leaves Thallax warriors notoriously cold and calculating killing machines

Great stuff.

Is it really so hard to get your pictures set up so they don't load sideways? Really?

What is a thallax? Is it some kind if troop, is it in the HH book?

It's a troop choice in the HH:Betrayel book for the Adeptus Mechanicus... It's pretty much a cyborg with nothing except a human brain as the last bits of fleshy-ness. It's basically similar stats to ogryn, decent enough armor, jump pack, and lightning gun... May take mechanicum land raider as dedicated transport.

A Thallax seems like an odd chouice for FW's first step into making some ad-mech models. I would have thought that the obvious choice would be to go with some Skitarii or something. Not that I am complaining, I have many uses for what looks like the start of a great model!

I don't think it's odd at all. It seems consistent with past FW efforts and stated priorities. They want to sell models that both past and new Ad-mech fans will buy. Id guess they feel the past fans will be less inclined to buy skittari since they've already converted them. It's just the same as when they chose not to produce Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard with Great Axes or blunderbuss, which prior to their effort were the definitive characterization of the most common Chaos Dwarf. The above was the rationale they gave.

I think in this instance Thallax were selected partially on the basis of how the Mechanicum were represented on Istavaan III .... The skittari may simply have not survived long enough to participate in the battle.

That's actually an excellent point there. Hopefully it means that we will be seeing them create a bunch of original models for Ad-mech, wouldn't mind some to go along with my Thousand sons...

I'm sure they have a bunch in mind. Something I was thinking about... Many comments about the look of the thallax but if you consider some of the elements of the older robot designs and imagine they were updated... Then the thallax's appearance makes mores sense.

Funny you should show that crusader robot. There is a great looking re design of it in the Collected Visions book. I would find it but I don't want to blast through 350 pages of art right now!

More I stare at that Thallax, more I like it. It is refreshingly unique design. I hope they make a full Ad Mech lists to go with them, one in Betrayal was rather disappointing. I'd love to see some FW knights and skitarii.

The Thallax is a Work-in-Progress. I'm going to hold off judgement until I see more. Seems a little plain at the moment, though.

Sniper marine is a badass model, though.

I think knights are very likely since one of the vehicle upgrade rules (flare shields I think) specifically mentions both the Grav-attack and certain "patterns of Imperial Knights" possesing it.

Looking at the Thallax entry I think they're a good unit to wet our pallets for Ad-mech, which is why I think they were done first. When it comes to Skittari, I'm all for people getting what they want; its all for fun after all... but I think they'll tend to be some of the less interesting Ad-mech units. I imagine the only things less interesting will be the units that are just copy and pasted... such as how Ad-mech Myrmydons are currently count-as-ed Techmarines or how I'm sure we'll also see Enginseers copy and pasted as Techpriests. I'd also bet the artillery like the Laser Destroyer and Thudd-gun will make a reappearance with the Ad-mech as well. Given the nature of their options, I'm betting FW is planning some sort of servitor set.

As it is Thallax are currently a troop choice, but they're mentioned as being similar to Praetorians. Praetorians are fluffwise more of an elite unit. To me that implies that down the line the Thallax will be bumped over to a different FOC (FA?) and I'd guess it'd be whenever FW does Skitarii.

Hi there,
In today’s newsletter we’re excited to announce that tickets for the Forge World Open Day 2013 are now on sale! As well as details of this ever-popular event, we’ve also got a preview of the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 12: The Fall of Orpheus book.

Forge World Open Day, 7th April, Warhammer World, Nottingham

Sunday 7th April will see Forge World and Warhammer Forge abandon our top-secret Manufactorum for our annual Open Day. This year’s event will be ticketed, due to its incredible popularity, and Open Day tickets are exclusively available to purchase from the Forge World website priced at £7.50.

The entirety of both the Forge World and Warhammer Forge design teams will be attending the Open Day, showcasing all manner of work-in-progress models and recent releases.Simon Egan, Blake Spence, Stuart Williamson, Daren Parrwood, Will Hayes, Phil Stutcinskas, Mark Bedford, Edgar Skomorowski, Keith Robertson, Steve Whitehead, Trish Carden, Matt Murphy-Kane and Neil Cook, along with new designers Israel Gonzalez, Alfonso Giraldo and Peter Hutchins, have been hard at work on a variety of Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Forge and Horus Heresy models of a variously armoured, flying, and walking nature; all these and more will be on display, along with fantastically painted models and a selection of our stunning display boards.

The Art and Book Design team will also be at the Open Day. Paul Rudge, Rhys Pugh, Ian Strickland, Kenton Mills, Rachel Pierce and Dominik Oedinger will be showcasing the process by which Imperial Armour books are created, and may even be seen working on artwork for future book projects on their advanced cogitator devices. Writers Alan Bligh, Talima Fox and Neil Wylie will be on hand to talk about the process of writing an Imperial Armour book, and the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 12: The Fall of Orpheus. They may even be tempted into dropping a few hints about future projects…

Our Sales stands will be packed with a huge selection of resin kits, books and modelling supplies, including some pre-release kits that will be announced in future newsletters. We hope to have copies of Imperial Armour Volume 12: The Fall of Orpheus on sale, and we’ll be confirming this in the near future. As always the Open Day will be the first chance to purchase this year’s Event Only models. For 2013, we’ve designed both a Warhammer Forge model and a Forge World model once again, and while we can’t tell you what they are just yet, suffice to say we think they’re great!

The Open Day painting competition will again be judged by our Studio team, and all attendees can enter. Your entry should consist of a single Forge World model of any type, although we do advise that cabinet space may be limited. The prize, of course, is the prestigious Forge World Open Day trophy.

We’ll also be running our Charity Titan Raffle, which is always incredibly popular. Tickets will be on sale throughout the day for a mere £1 each; all proceeds will be donated to Children In Need and the prize will be a complete mighty Imperial Reaver Titan.

The Open Day runs from 10am to 4pm and all the Warhammer World facilities are available throughout the day, especially Bugman’s Bar for breakfast, lunch, and refreshments. Tickets are on sale now and we look forward to seeing you there!

A Reaver Titan as a prize from a charity raffle is a pretty great deal.

An assembled Reaver Titan as a prize from a charity raffle is an even better deal.

Anyone want to begin rampant speculation on what the Convention Exclusive minis will be this year?

40k - I think it would be fantastic if it was an exclusive and BA looking necron lord to go with IA12. I think it's more likely to be something HH, which is fine by me

WHFB - Gotta be a special dwarf or goblin, right?

For WHFB, it likely will be a special Dwarf Lord of some kind.

I'm planning to, though I won't have internet access till about 6:00PM after the event (unless there is internet in the building)
I'm also doing a massive purchase because it's two days after my 19th birthday, so I'll have money to burn (I'm planning on getting Espeth Von Draken on Carmine Dragon plus a fair few smaller character models)

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I'd like to go, but honestly by the time you pay for a ticket, pay for transportation, pay for food on the day etc etc, and with how quickly the info gets put up online nowadays, you're better just forking over the £25-30 on ebay for the event-only mini.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Like I said though, I'm turning 19 and this is the first year that I've had enought autonomy around my birthday to be able to go, so I'll hopefully be picking up some of the older event only models as well (runtbot, enforcer and Chaos Dwarf). Besides, food on the day is going to cost all of 50p due to the miracle of student cooking.

It's a bit annoying that they've chosen to ticket this year, especially since FW's flat postage rate of 12% applies to them?!

Anyway I'll be going as usual, it's a great day and you usually get to see a lot of new stuff, once the epic queues for the sales stand have died down, last year took me an hour and that was the shortest I've ever seen it due to their expansion of the sales area!
