That's quite a bit of work, the Raptors are sick! And it's cool to know I provided some positive inspiration! It's the gift that keeps on giving at Dakka, someone else turned me onto Machinator about a year or so ago, I'm glad he's still doing what he does and glad people are still keeping him motivated by sending him business.

Looking forward to seeing what horrors you visit upon that Land Raider!

Hurrah! It's been a while, but I've found time to update this here plog. After having a break from p&m'ing myself almost half to death, here's what I gotten done over the last 3 months:

My new(ish) gang for Necromunda, the 'Broadland Runners'. Recycled from old Cadians, Black Scorpion and Hassle Free miniatures.

My Necromunda Bounty Hunter. I stole his camo scheme from my brother-in-law's gang. Works a treat.

Here's my WIP display stand for my first Necromunda gang, the 'Butcher Barbies'. I'll post more photos when it's all done.

And after that little lot, I've been going back the the DG this past week, tying up loose ends before starting on the next batch.

The FW dread. All done.

WIP LR. Toying with freehand.

Raptors. All done.

DP. Finally, after nearly three years, he's almost finished!

And my Jump pack Lord.

So quite a bit has gotten done. I can almost see a glint of light at the end of the tunnel. We'll see how long that lasts.

Welcome back Bash the Bosh!
Your Necromunda gang is looking great. They're a nice mix of different minis but somehow they fit together nicely as a whole. I really like the old cadian minis.
I really like the Bounty Hunter, how did you make him?
The display stand is shaping up nicely too.

The FW dread is really top notch. That weathering on the Autocannons(?) is really good.

The freehand on that LR is outstanding, awesome work there. Those DG Raptors are great too. I really like the use of Sanguinary Guard which you have nurgled up to a suitable level. The jump pack lord will look great in their squad too.

The Daemon Prince is looking good, but that blue (although well executed) just stands out too much IMO. I'd have used a more pinkish colour.

@ Flying Poo - Thanks for the comments mate as always. The Bounty Hunter was just a kit bash of a Cadian legs and torso, FW DKOK Grenadier Arms, a 'Berlin or Bust' German sniper head, Catachan back pack. and topped off with a Tau pulse rifle!

The Necromunda gang again was put together by digging out old models from the bits box, and also a few buys from ebay. But they look pretty good, and those plasma weapons have caused some hurt to thier opponents!

As for the DP, I did toy with the idea of a pink tentacle, but I thought it came across too garish for my likng. The camera flash has made the blue look alot brighter than it actually is.But I do have another project on the cards, so I'll take up your advice for the next DP (yes another one!)

Take it easy,

Bash

Because we’re here,lad...

So after three years and six months, I've decided to pick up a paintbrush, and dig through what scraps of modelling and miniatures I had left after selling my Death Guard, Orcs and Goblins, Necromunda, paints, bits and pretty much everything else.

It's been great pursuing other interests. And it was nice not being hunched over a paint palette, turning out figure after figure. But the bug has come back, and I've made a few purchases from FW, to start a new pre-heresy Death Guard army.

I know, I know, ANOTHER HH army. But I couldn't help it. After seeing all the new goodies that FW have released, my bank balance took a good beating. And it enjoyed it.

So in preparation for a tonne of resin goodness to turn up, I thought I'd have a little play and practise on a figure I've owned for years, but never actually painted up until now. Don't ask me who he is or where I got him from. I've slept since then.

So ignore what you've seen previous in this blog. It's all gone. Probably broken up, repainted, and generally treated worse than a refugee.

Many thanks,

Bash

Hello guys! Ygg, Graven, I'm totally overwhelmed that you guys remember me. It's genuinely put a smile on my face.
It's difficult to describe, but not painting and modelling, well, it felt, wrong. I have a busy mind. I'm an introvert. I'm pretty sure almost everyone on here can associate with that in some way.

But yes, I've succumbed to the temptation of FW's HH Death Guard. I've ordered a few bits that I liked:
x2 MKII crusader armour squads w/ DG upgrade kit
FW Typhus
Deathshroud Terminator Squad
2 FW MKII Rhinos
DG Contemptor Dreadnought w/ Autocannon and power/flamer gauntlet.

So a good amount of resin to work with. Not sure what direction I'm going with this, as I don't plan to game anytime soon. I'm just going to bulid and paint, and really scratch this itch until I'm back in that zone that we all know too well.

Ok. I've changed my mind.

So I've cancelled the DG from FW. I had a good think about what I actually want to do. SMs, yes. DG. Not really this time. I have a deep affinity for the boys of Nurgle, but I do want to try loyalists for once. 40k universe. And so after 3 mugs of tea, Motorhead playing loud enough that the deaf lady next door banged on the wall, and the power of Google, I've finally found the chapter I want to use as my first proper SM army:

Yes, I've gone for the Mentors. Or Mentor legion. Having read the fluff on around 45 chapters, these guys just flicked a switch for me. Small, intelligent war-fighting, clandestine, pro-technology, troubled founding. It's all there for exploration and expansion. I love the idea of these guys, well, mentoring. PDFs, training and developing other chapters and testing whatever the techs on Mars cook up.

So, having reviewed my approach to modelling and painting and all things fluffy, what I need now is a bit of a plan on what I would like this little lot to turn out like.

Having read up on the fluff, it turns out that these guys like their wet-work and black ops. Counter-terrorism and government changes are all in a days work for the Mentors. I'm thinking dark urban colours, with lots of OSL. Some PDF liaison officers, local informants, spook addicts etc. Wheeled vehicles and skimmers for quiet insertions in busy residential areas. Silenced firearms, knives, refuse sacks and a DNA removal team. (I added an extra scoop of my pre-workout powder to my shake. That stuff is like health-crack. I can smell colours and see noises). Then a few prominent Mentors that have served with other chapters to make up a command squad. So a few differing colours, maybe a shoulder pad or a helmet to show service.

Rather than use the regular GW scouts, I'm thinking light-armoured SMs. I'll have a think about that. Maybe sketch out some ideas. I want to also have a 'hard-knock' SM team, using the breach/boarding SMs from FW. Besides, I love the models.

So for now, here's what I've kind-of thrashed out:

Liaison Officers to make up command squad
'Soft-knock' wet-work squad
'Hard-knock' Breaching squad
Wheeled vehicles (might go for the Tauros Venator)
Skimmer (scout land-speeder?)
Scout-like sniper team
PDF/informant figures.

That's all I've got for now. Please comment if you have any ideas or advice.

Bash

P.S. @ Ygg - Just seen your post. I'll be definitely trying that idea out. And thanks mate, it genuinely means alot.

@ Graven - Wow! I'm assuming thats WD 98. I had seen about that on the web, but forgot to have a better look. That's awesome. And you're not wrong, it's all about tech. Whatever gives the edge in combat, they've got an app for it. Tbh, I'll take anything off your hands if you're happy to send it my way. I'll happily cover postage and whatever you want for them. All I have is one CSM, who's been my test model for the last decade, a sad biker marine, eight heads from a random third party company, and a RT bolter. Oh and the Bulldog that I painted yesterday. So yes, a sorry state of affairs to in.

I did, however, find this:

Now, I'm no believer in fate. I do believe in 'Synchronicity'. The occurrence of unrelated events that fall into perfect chronological order. Now after searching through the wreckage of my memory banks, I do have the recollection of making my own Mentor Terminator for Space Hulk. The fact that I had kept this, after expunging my entire collection, only reinforces my decision that the Mentors are calling me.

Scary stuff. Like Critical Mass failures. Or the female orgasm.

Being British, there's no stopping me in attempting to bodge my way to starting this project. So grabbing a tank brush, some vallejo foundation white, and my ever-faithful CSM tester man, I started on making him Mentor legion:

Unremarkable, I know. He's had that many coats of paint, he's almost entirely smooth.

But what else have I been up to since I've been away, I don't hear you asking. So may I present my entire collection of vintage Transformers. A lot of hunting went into getting all of these, especially trying to get hold of bloody boxes and polystyrene inserts. They cost more than the figures half the time. If only I knew the value of vintage printed cardboard in 1990...

Much love,

Bash

^That's a cute little bug love it. And some G1 collection! Do I spy a metroplex? One of my mates is a collector, but isn't overly precious - imagine my kids' joy when they got to play with his Scorponok! And you've even got springer's sword to stand up!

I shall hunt out Mentor stuff for you. That was indeed a serendipitous find! I don't what I still have, I sold mine en mass to a friend to complement his BTs (with whom they have a fluffy friendship - they are iirc allowed to wear the chains that show they have been admitted to His presence). I had plasticarded their neck pieces to make them Mk8. The other thing I had considered was using BA/GK wrist mounted weaponry as they also seem more ultra-tech. I certainly still have the jetbikes though, done up as scout bikes - they're in bits but there should be a squad. You can just help fund my Batman habit

@ Graven - Yes Sir, it's soooo much G1 goodness! You certainly do see Metroplex. Also hidden in there is the very rare Japanese 'Zone' Metrotitan, one of only two releases made by Takara in 1990. That's when Transformers really did nearly die off.
I also have Trypticon, who still walks and lights up. Omega Supreme, Scorponok and one of my 'Holy Grails', Overlord, who was only released in Japan and then in Europe.
G1 Megatron and Optimus Prime are both in there, boxed. Shockwave was a real gem of a find, as it was my mother's friend who was having a clear out, and she was going to have a car-boot sale, and sell it for £20! I actually left work early to go back home, got my old dear to call her friend, I gave her £50 as I told her that it was worth a lot more. He couldn't be in any better condition. Apparently her son ( back in 1987) didn't like it because it was purple and looked too much like a girl's toy.
I love little back stories like that.
As for Springer's sword, a vital tool for any vintage Transformer collector is clear nail varnish. My missus has a bottle of it, and it brilliant at tightening up worn joints of figures. I used it on all of the little Throttlebots too, as they were in a really bad way. The other great tool is 'Repro-labels', they're a company that produce original and upgrade sticker sets. So it's no longer a factor to buy figures based on sticker wear, unless of course you were considering having them graded, and that is an entirely different ball-game from regular collectors.
I could only imagine the look on the faces of all the little Gravens! My son was exactly the same when he came over ( he's 6 now)! His little face lit up when he got to make his own Cybertron with all the City-formers in base mode, Omega Supreme whirring round on his track. And it's magical for me. Transformers always will be. And it's amazing to be able to share that joy with my son too. As well as having to learn to play Minecraft (it's actually quite addictive) and Skylanders in compromise!
So, back to the matter at hand. PM me details of what you want, and I'll happily wire across any funds you need for your Batman habit. I'm really, really liking the idea of MKVIII armour. Those neck guards appeal to me. More food for thought.
I've ordered Pedro Cantor as I really like the figure, and spookily enough, he has the wrist mounted storm bolter. I'll have a dig about on evil-bay and see what I can salvage from the warp. See if I can rustle up some MKIV stuff too.

@ Januine - Many, many thanks mate. I hope I do your subscription and time justice.

@ Archer - I wish my sculpting skills were that good. I really enjoyed painting him. I've looked for some more like him, but I've yet to hit the mark. He certainly would fit in with Tau. I was originally going to use him as a squat character for a Necromunda gang that I was in the process of starting, but never finished.

So, as a bit of an update, I went an hour up the road to my home town of Norwich (As Ipswich's GW is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and we lost our local 'Modelzone' store). I went straight into GW and picked up a Landspeeder Storm, and a squad of Scions. A few paints and the obligatory spray paint and GS. I then headed into Toymaster, and had a good chat with the gentlemen serving in there about what I could use as a chassis for the wheeled part of my project. We narrowed it down to a 1/35 Quad Tractor and a 1/35 Soviet BTR. After having a good look and comparing the chassis' of each model to the base of the Landspeeder, I settled for the Quad Tractor. I also bought some cheap pens to rip out the springs for the suspension. it'll be for show, not an actual working system.

So after dry fitting and mixing up some Milliput, cutting down some plasticard, put Busta Rhymes on the Youtube mix, fed the dog and made a brew, I've got this so far:

I've wanted to keep the basic shape of the Landspeeder, but at the same time, make it look like its one vehicle. It's not an Ork Battlewagon! I'm working on this from front to back, so next on the list is fill the big gaps between the Quad Tractor radiator and the nose of the Landspeeder. I was going to use plasticard, but my measuring and cutting is so rusty. Putty and sculpting tools, I'm ok with. So I'll stick with that for now until I stick on the back of the 'Land-Quad'.

Whilst I'm waiting for the Milliput to cure a bit, I'm looking at these Scion heads. I'm going to make HMNVS (Helmet Mounted Night Vision System) for them. They're monocle systems, now redundant in the current British Army, as they've now been replaced with the even worse LUCIE system. But they look very, very cool. This isn't my image. Just pulled it from Google.

So that's the plan so far. I'll probably update again later tonight as I dither around with various things at at once.

Bash

@ Graven - Thanks mate. After seeing your Mentors on your blog, it's really helped me visualise the Legion and given me inspiration.

So after a nice mug of 'Gunfire' (a British Army drink consisting of tea with a tot of rum in it) which loosened me up from a day of bartering and trading, I cracked out the rest of my Land-quad:

So my sculpting hasn't diminished as badly as I thought. It's certainly passable for me. So I'm going to stop there, and let the Milliput cure, then smooth out the divets with GS, then start on the rear of the vehicle.

Tomorrow's plan then is as follows:
1) GS the cab and front end of the Land-Quad
2) Finish building the chassis and fit lights, bumpers (Fenders)
3) Start the rear crew compartment
4) Possibly start GS'ing the monocles for the Soft-knock team

To be honest, I'm surprised I got anything done with this dork hanging around:

This is my dog Jack. He gets called every name under the sun other than Jack, as he is a naughty, stubborn, lovable idiot. He's going through his early teens now, so he sulks when he gets told off, and howls at me when I'm getting dressed.

That's all for now,

Bash

I love those little moments between the first kiss and the pepper spray...
