I really like the one on the left's pose, and I'm intersted to see the finished paintjob for all three. It's a great start!

Almost done with this one, just needs snow. So onto the next. I'm trying to keep it so when I need to use my snow flock, since I mix it up as a paste, that I can finish off a batch rather than misjudging individual models and wasting it.

Thanks
Not much of an update today but picked up the windrider battlehost box. So figuring out the list properly before I get building and would need to pick up more of those resin bases for all the bikes. One thing for certain though is I'll be using the crimson death formation and am looking at adding a bunch of warlocks.
Before I had been looking at a guardian defender one but the cost of getting them sorted out became too much and simply the only real benefit I would be getting from it would be the defenders trying to stay mid field, a role which I've used warp spiders for in the past and would really like to use them for again instead; especially since they do it better now. Not to mention the fun of watching stuff like a wraithknight just melt under the power of one ten man squad of them thanks to monofiliment.
As for the vyper tax I'm considering running it as a lone vyper with a bright lance for some very light supporting fire instead of investing more to have them with shuriken cannons and up field since just one I think wouldn't have the survivability to really do much. For reserve manipulation I'm going to try a cheap autach, using the conversion I did for my dark eldar earlier to try out a sniper with the long rifle. Probably not so great, but cheap and I kind of like the idea of a lone sniper character manipulating the reserves sort of like it's doing recon. Plus I like the conversion too much to just leave it unused.
One change I have done to it since though was I replaced the head it had with a normal scourge one. I feel the long ponytail on it looked a bit off. If it doesn't work out so fun maybe I'd look at a fusion gun with wings autach.
As for the bikes I'm kind of leaning to shuriken cannons for the majority of them, I already have those first 3 with scatters and I do like scatter lasers, but it feels obviously too much plus the random ap2 can help with stuff I'll expect to see like terminators. Scatters do better when the target is in cover and have more range, but then I'd be wasting that blade storm rule. Another option is just running a CAD instead, but if I did this the warp spiders, and possibly wraithlords if I can fit them in, would benefit from the 6" run.

Started working on those jetbikes with the Farseer. Had parts leftover from the wraitseer I did a while ago so seemed like a good time to do some conversion work. Since I wanted to give one of the Farseers the spirit stone of Anath'lan I ended up thinking of some ways to represent it and this just jumped out as the best.
Coincidentally the fins at the back of the jetbike are exactly the right side for the fins from the wraithlord to fit as replacements.

Continuing to build stuff as I go along. Got all the bases I had left ready and more of them on the way in the mail. Might notice the pilot's head in the vyper, the usual pilot comes without a helmet but I wanted one even though I paint over the canopy anyway.
Thing is even when the canopy is on, the cockpit area of the vyper is actually still visible from the back and a tiny bit from the front. The torso being from the old jetbike kit fits perfectly with the rest of the vyper except for the canopy which it gets in the way of. So I had to cut the helmet down a bit.
When I get around to working on the vyper I intend to do a little work on the inside of the canopy to sort of expand on how I alway paint over them. Kind of like a display thing to replace it simply being clear. The inspiration being this.
So I'd represent it with some basic hud and a soft osl glow from the inside of the cockpit. Something that will be more or less a kind of hidden detail for now on the vypers, but that I feel will be quite interesting later on when I get around to some war walkers maybe. However for the vyper I'll be going with a darkened colour scheme for the pilot which when added with the glow should give a nice effect sort of like when I did this.
Either way can't put too much detail into it as the opening to see it from isnt exactly big either. However it's still there enough to not be able to ignore.

Would love to see your take on the Ultra's. Years ago I did a similar dark scheme, always wanted to revisit it. Will be a pleasure to see you do it though.

Built and drilled out the barrels on the first squad of tactical marines, setting them asside for now. Problem was I needed to get some more paint to finish off the wraithguard and have been pretty busy.
Had been a bit slow lately because I had been working to save up for something, which I managed to get today.
Hopefully I can have some time and motivation to get these wraithguard done well before the cut off for armies on parade (oct 24 lol) then get to having fun working with blue for a while. The challenge for the ultras will actually be trying to get the transfers sorted out perfectly. By the sounds of what I've looked up it will be fairly easy so might need to come up with another challenge besides trying to have the army look like the best work I've done so far. Another idea I have is to maybe paint over the transfers to add the correct shading to them but I'll have to see how it looks first in the end. The bases I'm not entirely set on yet, definitely need something different from snow. I had thought of painting them up as urban, since this is what these bases are, but maybe I could paint them a bit more earthy and add grass tufts like I was doing with the Tau.

Either way I like the look of marines a lot better on these 32mm instead of the old 25mm, which the box still came with for some reason despite the site saying they would be 32mm.

Oh wow! Congrats on the ring! That's a very nice looking ring-- white gold, right? And the wraithguard are looking good, too! I need to get back to painting and try painting in more stages... you're making me realize just how flawed my own painting method was.

Yeh I told you.
Oh and as for the marines, I managed to find a cheap Calgar through ebay which has been shipped. Didn't look too rough but was missing the decorative part from his right shoulder. Which should be easy enough to replace with some work on a banner top or something.

So I couldn't resist doing one marine to start them off already.
Was a nice break to painting the pink again and at first I was just doing it as a test to figure out the blue, didn't like it so brightened it up a bit and I think it's perfect now. So went ahead and finished it off anyway.
And a close up for the project's section in the opening post.

Of course the blue got brighter as I went along.
I'm saving the decals for until the entire squad is done. Also once I get some microset and sol. The first marine was just hardcoat, decal, hardcoat then 2 layers of lahmian medium. It worked although the ultramarines symbol broke after I put some cuts into it to let it conform better, then the tactical arrow had issues so I decided to wait until I had some stuff to do them better.
