Here's one I prepared earlier...

And this one as well...

Not sure about attaching another one to a Rhino, as it's pretty big. I guess I could potentially buy another one and take off the head to use as a bit of deco. I'll see what Reaper are asking for them these days.

Nice marines

Think the brass bull thing in bones retails for like 5.50 or something, at least in the currency with which I am familiar.

Yeah, it was actually in Theo's link because derp. AU$7.80 which is cheap enough to get, but I'd probably want to work out exactly what to do with it before purchasing. Maybe mount it on a Land Raider or something...

I was thinking more about it and maybe having the bull goring a fallen marine/chaos marine (either are suitable as they are the executioners for the High Lordes of Terra). maybe the injured marine that is laying down but firing his pistol in a last bit of defiance. You could just make a scenery display of it being the "Downfall of the damned" or something. A piece in the halls of the Brazen Minotaurs fortress monestary depicting them destroying some now unknown chapter who refused to comply with the orders of the High Lordes. I'm not sure how large the model is, but maybe make a counts as Wolf rider and mount a marine on it's back.

I reckon the lower one could work on a blinged out Command Land Raider (maybe a sweet ride for Asterion Moloch and his Honour Guard?), the upper one is probably not static enough but the lower one could sit on the top of the hull, maybe accompanied with some banners or a shrine or some such thing, that could look pretty epic.

Interesting ideas there, though I'll let them percolate and think about them some more once I've got the basics painted. And now, something completely different!

These Netters and Clubbers were completed very recently. They'd been sitting on my painting desk what must have been close to a year (so not long, relatively), and were started shortly after the initial pair were completed in July 2015. I recall that I was looking on eBay for some "skull" style netters before finding some in amongst my unpainted Orcs and Goblins. Luckily I hadn't found any for the right price, so I saved myself a little bit of cash there.

While I enjoy looking at other people's orcs and goblins painted in more muted tones, and shades of olive and ochre, my own Citadel goblinoids are probably always going to be painted with the bright, unrealistic skin tones that GW has used since the late 1980's through to today - and I make no apologies for that. These models date from about 1991, and as with the Slayers I've been painting recently, I'm happy for them to be painted as an echo of the White Dwarf magazines of the time.

The group shot of the goblins so far - Naturally after finishing them, I've just found a bunch more of these guys - 2 more netters and three more clubbers. That will give me 12 of them in total once they're painted - enough to fill a regiment tray. I'll just need to work out what they can actually be used as in a KoW army...

Nice work! Very iconic paintwork, you could paint some other company's figures like that and I'd guess GW.

Thanks Grim - I occasionally paint up a Kev Adams greenskin sculpt from Harlequin or RPE and they fit right in perfectly with the GW ones. Makes sense because Kev Adams. I need to get onto my own Oldhammer Greenskin army. I might do a few units for the next Tale of Painters...

Good spot, Josh. It is indeed Goblin Green. I still have some original HMG hex-pot Goblin Green, as well as some Vallejo Game Colour, which is an excellent match. There's also Vallejo Game Air, but I'm not sure how well it matches)

It's still available from HMG (the original manufacturers) under their Coat D'Arms brand in the truly old original pots, along with many of the other original old-school Citadel colours.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to look into those next time I need to order paints.

I love those old Kev Adams orcs and gobbos. If I had kept all the sets that I bought and sold over the years, I could very well have a full army of them. Ah, well, so it goes.

No probs - You can get the Vallejo paints from pretty much anywhere, and there are other sources of the CDA, though for you in Japan I think Troll Trader would be one of the better ones for CDA because free international shipping over 30 or 40 quid. (Speaking from experience ordering to AU).

This pair shows off an "Oldhammer" Warhammer Goblin Unit made up of 2nd-3rd Edition models, sculpted by Kev Adams. I bought and painted these figures long, long ago and recently found them lurking in the bottom of an old Chessex figure case. It didn't take much to clip off the old GW cavalry bases and cut some slotta holes in some 40mm rounds, and then rebase the pair. I then touched them up a little and they were ready to join the 21st Century.

What was also pretty awesome was finding another three, riders and wolves in totally separate boxes put away for separate reasons within a few hours of each other the other day. All pretty much unpainted and found as I was looking through some other models (looking for a MIA DA Techmarine). Looks like I'll have a full, small unit put together hopefully sooner than later.

Thanks guys. I've got the new(ly found) trio started. Primed and glued onto bases that I cut the slottas into. Sand slowly drying on the bases right now. I also found a really old little gobbo from WHFB 2e and an interesting Marauder one as well, so I'll paint those in concert.

I haven't posted new models for awhile now - a combination of being perma-fatigued from work and personal life issues, and the onset of the winter doldrums. I did bugger-all from the end of last month until about the middle of last week, when I finally got back to work. The end of the first 6-month "Tale of Gamers" challenge I've been running here is coming to a close in a few days, and I need(ed) to get my skates on. I still need to get something finished for Gondor, the boring bastards!

These models were actually started several years ago, shortly after I purchased Mantic Games' Dwarf King's Hold: Dead Rising. Seeing as the game came with a dozen or so Skellymans, and I had none painted or assembled at the time, I took a sprue or two from my (at the time) recent purchase of Kings of War 1st Edition: Morgoth's Revenge (aka the one with the awful dwarves and a tiny A5 pamphlet for a rulebook) and built them up for the game.

I can't remember if DKH has a skeleton hero or not - or if I just built the guy with the two swords to keep myself interested. The feather-plumed skeleton also has a unit leader feel to him, though. Perhaps when I do another dozen of these guys one of this pair will remain here as the unit leader while the other moves on to lead the second unit.

I only have three spears in this unit, as it was built for the boardgame. At some stage, I'll build a spear-heavy contingent to combine with these guys (and one of those leaders up above) to make a spear unit. I'll also do a few more with hand weapons to fill out a unit with regular weapons.

All of the shields on these models have freehand designs. I'll have to think of some other designs that are both simple to paint and suitable for this sort of undead models. Any ideas? Nothing too creative or exciting for these guys, though!

The difficulty with these models is as nice as these have come up - honestly, to my surprise - they were a real bastard to paint. Not fun at all. The issue I have is that the details are very shallow. I don't mind fine detail, but it's all very shallow on these guys, and as such, not simple and easy to paint in my style. Skeletons with well-defined details and bones are usually a joy to paint, but these aren't it.

While Mantic's Undead are often cited as their best range - certainly before the latest batch of KoW plastics came onto the scene recently - and I do agree that the Zombies (and Ghouls, I guess - I've used a ton of Ghoul parts on my Zombies) are great models. The differences are that the Zombies are a real pleasure to paint, but are severely limited in their components and require a fair bit of work to get differentiation once you go beyond the first few models (hence using all those Ghoul parts on mine). The Skeletons on the other hand have a lot more components to choose from to make the models more varied, and like the Zombies, they look pretty good once done - but they're the opposite of the pleasure to paint that the Zombies are.

Will I paint some more? Well, I feel obliged to do another dozen in order to split the spears and hand weapons, so I'm sure I'll do those this year. After that, it'll be a second dozen of each to bring each of them to horde-size, though that's less likely to happen this year. I also have a few sprues of Mantic's Skeleton Revenants, though again, no real plans to do those anytime soon. Maybe I'll paint my Mantic Skeleton Cavalry first...

Still, I have to give the painting challenge credit - It motivated me to sort out these guys who had been assembled and nothing more but sat aside for around four years or more, and now we have another finished unit of models, and while they're not going to win any Crystal Brushes, I reckon they make a very nice unit for the table.

NIce job on those skellies, your freehand shield designs in particular. I'm a bit surprised at your disliking the models (or at least painting them). I found them a joy to paint, especially after the hundreds of naked Citadel/GW plastic skeletons I have.

I liked the ones I did well enough, but I used quick and simple techniques and don't have as much h experience with other undead minis.

They look awesome though. Freehand is sexy, and the colors are both lively and dull in all the right places.

I am amazed at how good a job if these you have made given how much you did not enjoy painting them. The freehand shields and colour choices are especially effective. I remember painting a couple of hundred of these close to release (2010/11 ish) and agree that the details are not the best but they are ideal for massed rank and file.

I think I have a sprue of these/revenants if you want them?

I aim to please, Nerdy. I'll keep my porn name to myself here, though

The funny thing about these skeletons is that I was hoping they'd be as enjoyable to paint as Mantic's Zombies/Ghouls before I got bogged down. I'm happy with the final result, but the road there was anything but fun. I kept the colour scheme simple but in keeping with the rest of the Undead army, and I knew that simple freehand designs would be a good touch to help elevate the finished models.

Thanks for the offer, Thraxas, but I'll hold off for now. At least until I've painted another couple of units of them out of my pile of shame. Once I get short of undead to paint, I might get onto you about them if I need more.
