The pics seem to have a filename that is a number different than
the order they're in. For instance, the Paladin of Menoth has a file name
of 1, but is in the middle of the list. Should I just vote according to the order?

Yes, please just vote in the order they appear here. Until that lil bug gets worked out, it'll be impossible for me to attach pictures in the order I label them.

You could do one of two things to circumvent the issue in the future (until its fixed):

1) Upload an attachment and submit the post, then go back an edit the post and add another attachment one at a time. That way the uploads won't come in randomly based on size.

2) You could give each picture a name in their descriptions (like the type of model) and then have the poll voting done based on the model "names" instead of a number (that's probably a more intuitive way to list the votes actually).

Edit: Whoops. I stickied the thread and that temporarily causes the attachments to disappear. If you don't see any pictures check back in a couple of minutes!

Pretty easy decision for me. There are a few with equally high quality pimpressive technique, but the character of the Kroot takes it a head above the others imho. PS sorry I didn't enter anything. I dunno if I mentioned but I started a new job last week and the preparation pretty much took up the spare time I had this weekend weekend (I needn't have bothered in the end because the job has turned out to be an absolute piece of piss, ie very easy), but I will definately be in on the next one.

I wrote down how I voted and why. So if anybody cares he is free to read it through.

Eldar: Nice paint job but to old chool to Identify him as Infantry.

The Kroot well the photo isn't that good to show the skill that was used there but a good coulor setting nothing to special and a the leg gives him some "The Moblie Infantrie made of me what I am today" flavour. What I really like. And some plain detail work. Here goes my vote.

The Ogryn: Well that guy is areal eye catcher and some bad ass Infantry but again the photo is not that well and I couldn't get a real good impression on the paint job. I know how the rest of the army looks and well the free hands is a bonus but not enough for a vote.

Paladin of Menoth: Best paint job as far as I can see but this modell screams more special Character then Infantry although he is, but I have a very love to the normal grunts.

Tyranid Warrior: Same as with the Paladin.

The Guardsman: Yes this is what I am talking about. In a "not so well painted that I would vote for it" kind of way. Sorry.

Female Sniper: Oh yeah skinny girl holding on to a big, big gun. Yeah you like don't you? Er erm.... What strikes me here is that the weapon camo don't fit with the cloth. And that this hole model is pretty strange when it comes to realistic bodyshape.

I agree that the technique on the tyranid and the freehand on the Menoth guy are particularly good from the mechanics of painting standpoint. I like the Ogryn, Kroot and Sniper for the personality - wish the painter of the Ogryn had a better camera, though. The guardsman and the Eldar are cool because they are "real" infantry. Iron Wolves seems to have a rather active imagination with his comment on the Kroot.

Awesome to see all the voting!

The Paladin is beautifully painted.

The Ogryn is a fantastic conversion, very evocative.

Wow great job on all the entries. I think that the detail that went into the Paladin sets it above all the others. I wish the lighting were a little better or more natural for the ogryn,
and it was the coolest conversion of the bunch IMO. Everyone has me outpainted though. Great job again and the contest was a really cool concept. I hope to see more of these
in the future here at Dakka.

I am a little disappointed that there aren't more of the entries and while I like a few of them entries, nothing makes me go "god bless the infantry" when I look at them. I voted for the Menoth - I think it's a nice, neat scheme and represents the miniature/unit nicely.

In the end I decided against entering as the TWAR trooper kinda killed the whole anonymity point of the contest. Also the theme of the trooper is more like "More mechanical fodder for TWAR masterplan". Next time I wish to participate, atleast if there's an interesting theme and do a one off piece just for the event.

Geez, Mr. Raincloud. I believe this is a DPC entry best and I am excited it's off to such a great start and the voting is so active. Sweet!

I do wonder if we could use a shorter vote period next time. 48 hours seems like it will be plenty. Maybe later events will be closer.

The Menoth guy for me, crisp work . I liked stumpy Kroot and the conversionwork on the Ogryn, but what they look like in the photos don't compare to the Menoth.... can't help but wonder if those are accurate, but gotta go with what we have.

Oh, I wasnt aware that a contest was going on, I think its a great idea to motivate painters to come here to dakka, may this be the first of many themed contests.

As for the theme "God Bless the Infantry!" can't say the entries really catch that theme, even if there are some very interesting paintjobs... congrats to all.

Agreed on all points. I like the number and quality of entries. And I'm not sure why they got about 3wks to paint and we get 1wk to vote???

I think the plan is to allow those users who don't check Dakka on daily basis to participate. We got 100+ votes in the first day but since then they've been trickling in. While it may seem kind of like slow water torture to those of us who regularly check Dakka I think it is nice to allow everyone to participate in the voting, not just those who happen to log-in on a particular couple of days.

It would also be a bit cooler if the voting was closer, but that's just how this round of entrants turned out.

The Ogryn photo is unfortunate. I really can't tell if it's any good or not.

As for the Kroot, where I'm from, that logo is metonymous for a kind of traditional health drink:

In the future, I'm thinking of cutting the voting time in half. A full week is a long time. 4 days voting time will be long enough for those who don't check regularly (every couple minutes in dakka speak) and short enough for those who do.

Participants will also get a full month (from the 1st to the 1st) to complete entries in following challenges.
