So will Farsight just be in a regular XV 8 Crisis suit, seeing as he's much smaller than the Commander kit?

No, I mean their individual gear is weird. like Arrakon has 3 weapons when he can only fire 2.
One has a plasma/flamer. one anti heavy infantry, the other light.
Its all very unoptimized. And thats from a fluff standpoint too.

Plasma/Flamer is ideal for attacking a low AV open-topped transport from up close... say an Ork Trukk? You have a 1/3 chance to pen the armour with +2 on the damage table as well as the flamer toasting the occupants. It's almost like this character was designed to fight Orks in Trukks. Oh... wait. In the fluff, we first meet him fighting Orks!

On a different note, I agree that nobody will ever bother taking the Eight if the formation requires all of them. It's fluffy, but a points heavy nightmare that isn't even good in a casual environment. The current Supplement allows you to mix and match any of the Eight so long as you include Farsight. Being able to take Farsight and Ob'lotai 9-0 (the Broadside) is nice if you're just looking for a Broadside IC to attach to an existing squad. My opponents are always confused as to how I have a 2+/4++ with 2x 4++ drones tanking for my giant unit of Kroot, Kroothounds and Krootox. Forcing me to take all Eight together effectively kills 90% of my Tau FSE army lists.

Well, most of the 8 (all except O'vesa and Ob'lotai) can be mimiced perfectly by regular FSE/TE commanders. but you never do, because they are set up as crap.

The only useful ones ever, were the two named above.

The formation however-seems to grant an absurd number of abilities. while we cant read just what, it has 3 USRs and 2 special rules. (first 2 USRs seems to be "Independent Character" and "Fearless" as far I can make out)

Basically, they are turned into a self0sustaining army, for the lulz. (anyone remembers/care to calculate the point cost of the entire 8?)

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I expect Mont'Ka to update the old Farsight Enclaves stuff, while the Codex Farsight later to be a standalone book that is codex Tau + Farsight Enclaves specific, - Tau Empire specific characters and relics.

I notice anywhere this books rumors is mentioned you have in the comments sections, long suffering blood angels players looking to catch a break.

If it ends up having none and it's just cadians there is gona be a whole lot of new faces in the Death Company!

They tend not to put USRs into datasheets if the unit/models in question already have them.

You're right on the second one being Fearless I think. Last one is Preferred Enemy.

It made me wonder about the FSE in Jan/Feb rumors too. The era of Codex Supplements seems to have ended.

If they put future faction supplements into campaign books like Kauyon, that's a welcome replacement for the quite expensive (~ 72 pages) hardcover supps.

How on earth is that LESS expensive?? The tau white scars Raven wing one was more than a codex. I only bought it because I have taught AND white scars. What if someone has just guard? Is it less expensive to pay for the other 3 armies info they may never need?

I am not counting on it. Unless sales of Blood Angels models took a nosedive, there probably won't be much of any support for them in quite some time.

Not all of them has it, ovesa and obltai does not.
And preferred enemy is weird as it should have said "preferred enemy (something)", but there is no "()"

As for the blood angels issue - they can easily get a decurion, and possibly a "patch pamphlet" noteing stat changes to match codex marines.
No guarantee, or even evidence, but it's possible.

Brackets aren't required for Preferred Enemy. The BRB just says that sometimes (read: almost all the time) something will be in brackets next to the rule.

Yes, but heavy destroyers write "preferred enemy (everything)" so it's an odd writing.

Back when they first got that there had to be stuff in bracket next to it. For the 7th Ed codex the Design Team probably just copy/pasted it without changing it.

If taken as a single unit, yes. And they aren't particularly well suited to building an army around using all their talents because together they essentially are an army.

Let's use Torchstar as a random example.

She has twin flamers, a drone controller, a target lock, two marker drones and signiatur systems to support that.

Pretty fluffy command style suggested there: She likes to take a flamer crisis unit, torch hordes up close and personal, yet takes the time to provide marker support to pick out what targets the rest of her force need to focus on.

You can construct a commander to nearly be Torchstar, I suppose.

Torchstar has MSS - the Ignores Cover sigsystem. the worst place she could be is a flamer crisis unit.

There are new achievements for Execution Force in this issue of White Dwarf!

Interestingly the last page teaser mentions the return of the "Grossmarschall"

Update 2: I checked the Black Library page. It is NOT Black Templar related but Archaon is meant. They call him Grand Marshal.

More under the spoiler

Wonder if the assassins are getting anything new or if it will just be a reprint of the white dwarf/codex assassins rules.

Doesn't look like any blood Angels, though, as they don't have a booklet while Cadians do.

"Unif" as the only visible letters on that Farsight booklet in the limited edition.

Guess it's an army list for a forced alliance between the regular and enclave Tau then.

Interestingly the Limited edition combines Kauyon and Mont'Ka. I will read it now and see what that means.

Limited Editions are only ever printed in English.

It's likely a "Uniforms of the Tau" book.

Marginally larger picture of "The Eight" formation. Still blurry af though.

It makes sense that there would be a formation with all of them in it.

The limited edition is all the content from Kauyon and Mont'Ka. It contains 6 metal mission markers, 2 posters, a box, a 216 page hardcover fluff book and seven booklets including a uniform guide showing the forces of the campaign (Tau and Imperial). English only and limited to 1250 copies.

Mont'Ka campaign book set

Cadia
Farsight Enclave

get detachments, formations, warlord traits and new 'equipment'. This is a generic term in german. It is likely this means Relics.

The full Assassin rules are included.

There are nine datasheets for the Imperial super-heavy tanks. New formations for Tau (e.g. The Eight).

120 page fluff book

88 page rule book including the aforementioned material and lots of missions to play the story arc of the Mont'Ka campaign.

Datacards

Each have 6 warlord trait and 36 tactical objective cards. They are also shown in the Mont'Ka book. It is not made clear if these are 6 new missions plus 30 old ones or 36 new missions.

Karlaen

His rules datasheet will be available soon from Warhammer Digital. No information if it will be for free.

I don't see a connection with Mont'Ka anywhere in these pics so the BA characters seem to be an unrelated release.

Well, since it doesn't look like Blood Angels aren't in Mont'ka, looks like that is $74 I don't need to spend. I will still get 1+ Chaplain, but only because that mini is really cool. Beyond that, I may actually have every BA model I want or need. I would like to get more Tactical Squads since they are really cool looking, but it isn't a priority. Maybe I will eventually build a the Angel's Fury formation so I can have some Turn One Assault out of Deep Strike with Furioso Dreadnoughts.

Yes, BA seem not to be related, at least from these pics. I double-checked all the info, to make sure it is correct. The limited edition comes with 7 booklets and one 216 page hardcover book.

No reference of any kind in any of the articles regarding Mont'ka regarding Blood Angels. It literally just looks like a single new model release and a rerelease of an existing model. It just looks like Mont'ka will be the FSE formations, data sheets for some existing IG tanks, some formations for IG, and all of the rules for Assassins. I can't say it is a missed opportunity because IG definitely need help, but BA do as well. When I saw the cover of the WD, I was hoping that there would be some new rules for BA inside or aomething, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Bizarre that they are releasing a single model for an army, but not really doing anything else with it.

I hope they make more boxed sets à la Solaq, one for FSE and another for IG. I don't think they will, though, since there wouldn't be much room for a special character inside.

Am I the only one that finds it weird that Captain Karlaen's model is just being made into a generic BA Terminator Captain? There is almost no reference to his character in the article about said model.

He is both. They will offer a Dataslate for Karlaen on Warhammer Digital.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Has anyone heard of the Citadel Vault (mentioned on the Limited Edition Mont'Ka page) before? I remember they used that name in articles about other limited editions too. Is it a subdivision of GW?

Oh, okay. That makes sense. I still have the Deathstorm book to be able to use him (I am considering an army that uses the Archangels Strike Force and the Angel's Fury Spearhead Force with Karlaen as the Warlord). If they change his rules in the Dataslate, I guess I will have to get it.

I do really like the Blood Angels Chaplain - alot Wonder if you lost the BA Shoulder pad if it would work for other Chapters as its really cool?

Another thread mentioned fluff (but not rules for Sisters) - just like Shield of Baal - anyone heard any more on that?
