So what is Apocalypse Vol. 2 and these $8 Cadians, Guardians and Chaos Marines?

Apocalypse vol.2 will be the new Datasheets, that's easy.

With Daemonettes dropping to $22 for 10, the $8 sets should be something like 5 Cadians / 4 Guardians / 3 CSM. But that's kind of wierd packaging unless GW is saying that they've recouped their tooling investment and are trying to generate more incremental sales. In that case, they could be as much as 10 Cadians / 6 Guardians / 5 CSM.

What intrigues me is the Counter Set. Since when does 40k have a counter set?

No doubt Apoc Vol2. will be all the free PDF's put into a softback book. The will be titled:

And the $8 sets? Probably snap-together figs.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

doesn't look like they redid the Dark Elf range much to my eyes. Added a bit of flavour, maybe.

The current 8-part Guardian is way too fiddly and could definitely use BfM-style simplification, that's for sure. And with the push for Troops, I wouldn't necessarily mind a re-release of the 2E 2-part Guardians to bulk up my force.

The other possibility for the vol 2 Apocalypse book could just be a soft cover reprint of it.

I'm sure the $8 sets are more of those starter boxes they came out with a long time ago for space marines, orks, etc. that had like 4 simple models for beginners to learn to paint on.

There was that "unreleased" snap fit sprue of 4 Cadians showed up on Warseer a few weeks ago.

Likely them. They'll be a bit like the old £5 sets they used to have for kids I imagine.

New battlemat? I find that interesting...

I think I had heard about the battlemat. 4x6 roll-up with city on one side and woodland green on the other.

@Neofright/Patrick, Are you coming to the Game Empire 40K RTT on the 10th?

I am interested to see that Corsairs have become plastic, but not Dark Riders; and there is no sign of a plastic hero/bsb kit in the first wave.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Considering all the 2nd ed. touches in the rumored new edition, I wouldn't be shocked to see the return of speed counters, wound markers, run counters, etc.

Of course, the difference now is that they don't come free in the boxed set.

Not sure if I will or not - one of my friends is coming to town from New Mexico for business on the 8th and he may stay through the weekend.

There's already a pack of Warhammer Fantasy Battle counters. It makes sense to have Warhammer 40k ones, to represent troops falling back and whatnot.

The counters are for everyone who hasn't already bought the GF9 versions, just like the vehicle dice/counters which came after the GF9 versions.

I'm wondering about the new strike force stuff. I think it's been said that planetstrike will come out next year so I assume this is just Codex: Overstock round 2?

Yeah, I don't see anything interesting here. I'll consider getting the 40K rulebook if it's to be considerably better than the one supplied with the boxed set.

Major kudos to the first person that designs a good alternate counter set, and then distributes it for free on the intorweb. Seriously, I will buy 2 frosty beers at the LVGT for the person who has the skills and goodwill to do this. I lack any sort of graphical design ability, or I'd be trying to get you all to pitch in on a prize for someone doing this, and then would claim it myself

No, really. Someone should do this.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

The Space Marine Strike Force, Necron Phalanx, etc. are just army deals to go along with the new edition. Nothing really special at all.

People buy clear beads for warmachine and glue computer
printed counters to the bottom. The clear beads magnify the text
and weigh down the counters simultaneously.

I just use different colored beads, with green for buffs, red for bad
things and yellow for resources. It works out okay until I need too
many same colored counters for different effects.

I pay GF9 lots of money for nice fantasy templates, though I will admit that justifying that sort of 'luxory item' (i.e. could be built from scrath easily) is a rarity for me :S

I tend to buy stuff like GF9 as a toll charge for where I game. I buy nearly all my GW stuff used, (either as OOP stuff or because I'm a cheap bastard), so I try to support my local shops by buying paints, White Dwarf, codices (I buy 'em all), etc on a regular basis.
