i was at my local GW yesterday and they tried to sell me on one of the 3 options for preorders for 5th edition here's the options
1. just the standard rule book 50.00
2. the superduper collectors edition, looks similiar to the special warhammer one with the tri fold vocer, but this has purity seals on the cover $90.00
3. the other collectors edition in a METAL bolter ammo box complete with rules book, and the new templates which are the same size as the last ones, but jsut the green of apocaylspe, and it comes with all the tokens and counters we'll need to play the game WTF? $90.00
anyway i didn't see this posted anywhere else, i saw the email the employees were sent about it so i guess that's about as official as you can get

edit: oh yeah the rule book comes out july 12th, i asked about a new started set, nothing official yet

Win.

I'd trust a Redshirt about as far as I can throw him, but I definitely believe that.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. When a redshirt in Detroit is telling the same story as a redshirt in Philly, that probably means there is truth to it.

Oh, I'm definitely buying it. Did I imply that I wouldn't?

i agree with you, the common redshirt is about as trustworthy as a mekboys gobbo.

But he did show me the email that came from corporate, i saw the images of the books in the email. The tokens are strange looking, some are triangular, some are circular, and i couldn't read what was on them, but there seems to be a lot of them. I'm not exactly sure how i feel about the tokens, hopefully they're something that's not actually part of the game mechanic and doesn't have to be used.

So are you going to get that?

The price is expensive at 90 bucks but the ammo case is really nice looking, it's going to be large enough to hold the book, and since it's metal it might make a good miniature carrying case after adding some foam. It also has some print on the outside, i think it had the ultramarine omega on it and some type, the one thing i can remember off the top of my head is "Do not open unless properly blessed"

i think it's pretty neat, there's gonna be a limited number of them so i might get one, also for all the naysayers, it's the special edition you don't have to buy it, if you think it's a ripoff don't buy it.

When they're actually trying to get you to buy something, I think it's a safe bet that that thing actually exists for you to buy.

40 bucks for a box and some templates/counters? Uh, I'll take the standard one, thanks.

That may be, but nobody has ever complained (to my knowledge) of the deals offered in starter sets, the apoc backpack, or this bolter amo crate thingy. GW is pretty on the money when it comes to start-it-off kind of packages.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

One of the selling points of the bolter crate is that it COMES with foam and can carry minis. How many is ???, but it can.

They have my purchase then, I need more space to keep my models. Also, I need a rulebook too, as the latest BGB I have is a couple of editions ago. If I ever seem to be making no sense, thats why.

I can never understand why anyone would buy a special edition super deluze GW rule book thats only going to be useless in 3-5 years.

Dark Heresy I can see. FW or BL books I can see. GW 40K rule book? not worth it.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Better overall presentation. Collector mentality. The Imperial Calendar embossed on the front.

It doesn't make sense, but hobbies rarely do.

I'd like to see a pic first before I commit.
Carrying case, game tokens and rulebook sounds like a fun purchase for myself.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

some people just love to have 1 of everything. especially collectors editions or special editions. you never know what will be the "top seller" as far as collectibles go. It could be a rulebook or it could be a fluff book. And there is always one person out there looking for what you have.

Is the new rulebook bundled with the new starter set, or is the rulebook in the starter set more of a Battle of MaCragge style rulebook?

If this all is true I'll be getting one. The way I look at it, it's only $40 to increase my nerd-peen. I can't pass that up.

no the rule books are seperate from the starter set, i asked about the starter set and the redshirt didn't seem to know, which means they haven't sent him an email about it.

And if it is anything like what the Apoc special set was, it was well worth the money. I have treated my backpack like crap and it is still going strong.

And I heard too that the ammo box can carry minis. Nothing firm on that though.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Toreador,
You heard that it could. I read that it could from the GW e-mail. So I feel confident in that. Like I said, though, how many was not specified. It might be only one tray, who knows.

Well I've had a close look at the pre-order sheet (I even have a pic if someone can tell me how to get it out of a PDF) and the templates come on a sprue and there are a BUNCH of them.

I can verify all this is true. At the Seattle Battlebunker, they had their pre-orders available with some b/w pictures. Counters = things like objective markers, routing markers, etc. Stuff that GF9 puts out currently.

I don't believe that Apocalypse battle report they speak of. I guess I'll have to see it first.

Today I didn't even have to use my hot-shot las; I gotta say it was a good day.
