The rhino with dead guard on it is freaky scary looking, as an IG player even I like it. Looking good, keep up the good work.

thanks 'ghost' (if i may call you that. . the idea was that papa nurgle gave the rhino a gift for the great service done. what better nurgle gift than 'extra armour' as he loves making us hard to kill. so i came up with the idea of a living 'slime' that acts as the extra armour, the catch being that you need to keep it alive and the only way to do that is feed it with the remains (living or dead) of defeated enemy. so you have to keep up the good work or you lose the gift. i kinda like that idea as it seems to fit well with DG/nurgle fluff.
also i went a bit crazy (thanks to cadavour!) modelling basic rhinos, but i want to keep my army very DG which means no tanks. just foot soldiers and a rhino or two. so i have a possessed rhino (the lower bs of 3 being shown by the 'giant' not looking where he is pointing the gun and having one eye covered in slime so he lacks depth perception etc) and one with extra armour.
coming up with different ideas for each marine is more challanging.....im thinking of changinf the shape of some shoulder pads.....what do you all think....good idea? there are only so many different 'fat belly's' i can come up with.
will post more when i have done more!

ps. like i said im new to this so C&C very gratefully recieved thanks

Hey Phil, that's some gribbly work there.
I find my self relating to you on the art of miniature recycling! Noticed the blue plastic Genestealer hand straight away; I used to have a box of them and the parts ended up everywhere.
Just a quick question; what tools do you use? I messed around with a cocktail stick but all the little grooves I made threw green stuff ''hair'' up the sides. Bit of a nightmare to be honest. I found it hard to get a clean depression, so if you have any techniques, spill them!
Best of luck with the project.

wow, anti-mag its odd being asked for tips lol.
i mainly used the GW sculpting tool. slap on the green stuff, spread it about a bit, leaving it thicker in places you would expect to find the most slime and then make a hole in it, and from that centre point push out in all directions.
for the marines bellies i let the green stuff get a little harder once i have the basic shape im after, then with plenty of water ill use the pointy end of the tool and kinda make up what i think looks right as i go. i usually find all the 'stretchy/tight' looking parts are already there after i have made the basic shape and just need a little help.
i have also used the triangle shaped file from my set as it has a very fine point to it. so for the 'dots' i used this.
hope that helps
phill
ps. yes i have used a few hands. i have so many odd bits and bobs. the havoc launcher is sitting on the tri pod of an old dwarf weapon, the giant arm is an old GUO....etc etc. all good fun

ahh yes the green stuff stickiness strikes again. I sometimes use a thin coating of Vaseline on my tools to prevent that. Some people use water or olive oil for the same purpose. I've tried all 3 and prefer the Vaseline (wow that just sounds so wrong ). Anyway, remember that you need to clean the surface after the putty hardens for painting or applying more green stuff.

The WORK on them is nice. Very well done.
I'm going to stick to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, mostly, in this reply... but keep in mind it's because most of my compliments would just repeat what's already been said.
Rhino 1: Daemonic Possession.
This is my favorite of the Rhinos... but I think you've made a mistake.
With the new TLOS rules, you can expect to almost never get a cover save. The size of the Daemon that's coming out of that baby is immense.
Like the metal arm and inclusion of the TL Bolter.
WAY too mych GS work for my tastes (I read your post, though. I understand what you were going for... it just doesn't "grab" me).
Rhino 2:
Even. More. Greenstuff.
I've covered my thoughts on the escessive GS work already, so I won't go any further on that.
I LOVE the inclusion of the IG, but I think you should have posed them differently. Leaving their feet as "stock" from the box makes their feet look weird while they hang from the front & sides of the tank.
I may swipe this idea some day, but the Guardsmen will be modeled as if trying to escape (their feet will be hidden), or I will cut & GS the legs/feet for more natural poses.
DG bellies... These are my least favorite of the lot. Something about the bellies just isn't grabbing me. They're not BAD looking... They just don't make me perk up & take notice. KWIM?
All in all, good effort and good job!

I think you're doing a fantastic job, really making Papa Nurgle proud. Super GS'd rhinos are totally sweet and I like where you're going with the plague marine conversions. The pipes on the backpacks are looking good in particular (sort of Cadaver-esque, in the best possible way).

first off thank you a lot for your time and input.
i see what you mean about the guard feet. legs in general are bit of a bane of mine. i find them really hard to reposition (which is why my marines all stand the same way etc) to get that 'natural' look. they always end up looking like they had polio as kids. i shall have a look over the weekend and see if i can find a way to improve them. maybe just snip off the feet so they look submerged into the tank....hmmm.
the TLOS rule is one i hadnt thought about. i guess it is a bit too big to be considered a 'tail' or 'wing' etc . still, might help me hide my marines advance....we shall see how bad a mistake when i play with it.
as for the 'bellies' i think your right. they dont grab me completely either. i think the trouble i had here was not really knowing what i wanted to achieve. a few of them i really like like the guy with no bellie and bullet holes up one side with half his helmet blown off. i like that....it kinda tells a story. the fatter, stretched torsos are ok too. i love the split open chest plate and bellie idea, but this sums up my error i think. split by what? if its rot, slim, intestine etc then it should look as such. it looks like the armour has been split open by...er...armour. i wish i could say my painting will save the day but im not so hot at that either lol
to everyone else thanks! i confess to being a bit supised (and pleased!) by the responce. feel free to continue lol.
always looking to improve

hi again,
so i have been thinking about paint colours etc.....feed back needed.
my basic idea is to have them painted in the old grey/white with green trim pre-heresy colours. but to nurgle up the scheme with washes. im thinking things like where a bullet hole in the armour exists to use very thin lines showing rot/pox spreading out from the hole over the armour. like ivy i guess. using brown/green paint/ink. to represent them not long after the heresy, so you can still see bits of the white armour albeit dirty. and for the eyes, i have a hankering for gold. i want a kinda otherworldly/evil power glow look. how does that sound?
and the vehicles.....again when you can see armour it will be dirty white, but as for the green stuff etc...any ideas?
because of this scheme im thinking of priming with white spray followed by the new washes.
any help, tips etc would be welcome!
thanks

Color-wise, I agree with the idea to spray pure white base to start, and then shade with green and brown washes to get the "Nurgle" effect. Weapons can start chainmail and darken with the same washes for a corroded effect.
BTw, go with dark green and dark metallic shoulderpads / accents for visual contrast.

Hi Phil.
I was suggesting paint the pad interior dark green or boltgun metal - this gives some color / texture that contrasts against the plain white of the armor, and ties in with your washes. Simply doing the edge doesn't give enough contrast to the model, IMO.
If I were doing them, the shoulders would be dark green interior with boltgun metal edges or vice versa, depending on the effect I was going for.
