Feel free to leave comments folks ^_^

The painters can't reply back directly just yet, but once the voting is through in four days, they can get back to folks about comments left!

Also, a note to the modelers/painters, when the voting IS completed, please, feel free to make a thread of your own detailing your models progress ^_^! A sort of DPC Masterclass if you will!

Unfortunately, thems the breaks when it comes to online competitions ^_^;. We could require folks send all of their hard work off to one location for photos, but I don't think that would work out too well! ^_-.

Some great models, great paintjobs and great photos there. Congrats to everybody who entered. I didnt get my model (old school Tigurius) done in time this round, but looking at the level of competition that is probably not a bad thing! Some classic models here, especially Zodgrod who is one of, if not, my all time favourite miniature. Good job to everybody!

Yeah, I think Zodgrod was my favorite, too - in part because the paint job on it was very much in the old-skool style that you used to see Orks of that era in.

Some really nice stuff this time around - and a whole ton of entries!

Normally I only vote for a single option on these things, but this time I voted for the one I felt was the best, the mod entry I thought was the best, and one other for - uh - personal reasons.

As far as the "photography contest" comment goes, if you submit photos you took on your camera phone with huge jpeg artifacting, you've got to be entering for the fun of it rather than to win. I think the level of photography here is generally pretty high.

I only wish I'd been in this hobby longer so I could truly appreciate just how "old school" some of the entries are.

Ah well, some awesome entries here. Makes me glad I din't get my Praetorian Lt. guy finished in time, he wouldn't have earned a single vote. As it stands I voted for 4 models as I literally couldn't pick between them.

Your right of course but if I voted for everyone it wouldn't really be much of a painting contest.

I wish I had read DFo's Comments before voting he's got the right idea "Normally I only vote for a single option on these things, but this time I voted for the one I felt was the best, the mod entry I thought was the best, and one other for - uh - personal reasons. Hm, this is tough some are just the same scale of skill nothing very outstanding. I am a bit overwhelmed by the mass of the entries. I just have to go with my very subjective opinion: "GO LITTLE YELLOW ROUGE TRADER MARINE!"

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I was disturbingly allured by the yellow marine as well. It's simple, but it stands out - and it ain't just varnish 'n photo quality. The ghostwarrior is sweet though.

Does anyone has an explanation for the chapter symbol on the Termie? It might just be a coincidence, but I think I was smoking one of those earlier.

Some very solid entries, but some of the paintjobs don't do very well thanks to the photography.
I can't tell how much I like Ulrik from the pic, and it's a shame! Perhaps next time contestants would be encouraged to enter fixed size pictures (two or three from chosen angles) and size them up (or send them to someone to do it - converting for a net jpeg with a small size and good viewing quality isn't hard) as well as adjusting the levels.

Like I said, there are some very cool miniatures there, and everyone who entered deserves a pat (and maybe I'll try next time, I think I have a 2nd edition Marine or Harlequin lying somewhere) and kudos for having such cool old minis lying around

Congrats everyone!

wow, i cannot choose between most of these, the beauty of some very old models being painted very well (better than in the 'Eavy Metal stuff which was done when they were released) shows the real potential in the models.

It's just a shame it makes me feel slightly old give I remember most of these coming out and thinking "wow look at that cool new mini."

ho hum, back to the old folks home

.................................... Searching for Iscandar

Ghost Warrior?

Or those old-school studded marines.

Both are way old.

I found it was a mixed bag as far as painting, photo skills, etc so I guess I'm biased against photoshop "skillz" and backdrops.

The point is about your model, none of that other crap. Should be in the rules for it someplace that other stuff isn't (or shouldn't be) allowed.

I voted for the female in robes, as that's the only model I'd actually want to put in an army of mine.

Though the yellow studded marine, the razide, harry and that Zoat were all surprises.

I'd have voted for Razide if it wasn't on a scenic base.
I'd have voted for the Zoat if I could get a better up close view of it.
I'd have voted for Harry if there wasn't two models.
I'd have voted for the yellow studded marine...if it didn't have a Ultramarines tag on the shoulder!

Just my 2 cents.

Btw, why did you mark the mod entries? I don't get it.

Difficult to enforce, and also tricky to draw the line.

I'll agree that bad photoshopping spoils a picture... but that's going to be reflected in the results anyway. No real need to ban it.

I'd have voted for the yellow studded marine...if it didn't have a Ultramarines tag on the shoulder!

It doesn't. It has an Omega Marines tag on the shoulder. Ultramarines are the other way up

And if we're being old-school here, Ultramarines weren't always blue, anyway. Originally, Marine Chapters used different colour schemes to suit the area in which they were currently fighting.

(And no, it's not my entry...)

Mod Entries were tagged because, as mods, we aren't able to win 1st prize.

We've decided to keep our entries in the same voting poll and not to split our entries off as it would segment the challenge some. This is all about getting the community together afterall.

As to photos, I think the guidelines are good how they stand. This is an overall presentation competition. There is no way to make the challenges 100% only about the models in an online competition. Only in person competitions have that luxury unfortunately. Though I definitely wouldn't count out the possibility of a painting competition should Dakka ever have get togethers in the future...

I have to agree with the mods regarding the photography. It really isn't that hard to get a non blurry, non pixelated photo. Even a cheap cell phone can get better photos than some of these. Personally, I would like to see non blurry photos of 9, 10 and a close up of 3 posted elsewhere, possibly once the contest ends. Just get some bright light, natural if possible, turn off your flash, and rest the camera on something.

I voted for Tycho, because I have always found it hard to pull off metalics, and I think the poster did a fabulous job. I also voted for Zogrod, because the painter really captured the old school use of color, andmade the best out of a model with a less than stunning pose. Same goes for the Space marine captain, but not quite as much, so no vote.

Love the tight lettering on Tycho's side armour too.

Lastly, Razide is very cool. I haven't ever seen an RT era model like that painted up well. Very nice. Good use of shading on what must be a fairly difficult model to paint. Those rounded muscles do not lend themselves to the increasingly popular drybrush and wash painting method.

I think it still works. Tastes are eclectic, and the multiple votes and high number of
entries means that you need a lot of votes to get a sampling of what people are interested in.

Take the top three models: 1, 12, and 22. If everyone voted for one of those models with
their one vote then models 2 through 11, 13 through 21 and model 23 wouldn't really see
the point of entering their stuff. It's kind of like paint scores. Everyone gets some kind of
paint score to validate their effort, and then players' choice and top 5 and top 10 get
bonuses on top of those scores.

Whoooo, that's a lot of votes this time!

nice to see lots of entries too. Didn't get chance to enter this time, but will be in the next.

I liked:

Carnifex - nice to see the old chap up and about again and the paint colour looks good on it
Skink - my first army and one of the models I got to touch. Gota get a vote from me!
Wardancer - not too keen on the colour scheme, but like the detail
Fantasy goblin - 2D yet characterful, plus a nicly finished base
Ghost - nice and clean [paint job on a comic model
Harry - Just becuase it's old school! nice colours too
Tycho - great OS painting with the black lining!
Robed Female - I'm a sucker for nice bases that make a model look at home
Zogrod - wish it was slightly brighter like the old school, but a great model and paint job. Looks good

Well done everyone who entered! good luck to you all
