Gears of War will be remembered not for it's storyline or it's gameplay, but for chainsaw bayonets.

These're gonna count as a laspistol + CCW. Satisfying result, but by the Emperor, they were fiddly to do.

I was a bit worried how they would turn out when I read the title. The marine ones were great, as are these. Good work.

Thanks! I did briefly consider how a boltgun would look - got a link to those?

As for the method - take a lasgun (preferably the one without the hand moulded on, and the matching arm), and cut away the curved, lower part of the gun. This gives a flat surface for the next stage.

Now, take a chainsword and cut it down to the right length. To hollow it out, I found it easiest to cut straight through at the end (as you can see in the first picture), before doing the main bit with clippers, sharp blades and a steady hand. Glue the end back on, and glue the whole thing to the lasgun.

If you can get the hand of the other arm through the hole you've made, great - if not (which I had to do both times) just cut the fingers off and re-glue them on the other side. For the finishing touch, add a suitably angry-looking head!

Very nice. My only suggestion would be for the chainsaw to extend further out the front of the rifle. If you look at an actual picture of the Lancer, the chainsaw actually sticks out quite a way.

Ah, good catch. I did these from memory, but I'll correct that if I do any more.

These are amazing. I'm going to have to include a few in my veterans squad. Well done. Edit: after making one myself, I found that a scalpel is easier to use than clippers.

Back in the mid-90s, the forces of Algeroth, Dark Lord of Technology (basically Heartbreaker punked the old fluff for Khorne and in return GW punked the powers of Algeroth Incarnate wholesale and gave them to Obliterators) would issue chain bayonettes to some of his minions. That is a decent conversion tho.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Seeing as this thread has been revived, I thought I might post up my conversion of the rifle. Here he is:

Haha, no problem. That looks awesome. Might cut the barrels down myself.

Yeah, and if you use a CSM chainsword instead of a SM one, it extends it by the slightest amount, making it look a bit better for stabbing into someone, rather than using it like in the game and chopping. Yours is neater, though.

Oh, and do you have any pictures of the marine ones?

Well after a quick search I found this page. I think I prefer my way.

The chainsaw is cool and all... But I really love the third pic in your first post and the caption you put on it. The angle, the facial expression, the out of focus but still recognizable Carnifex... Totally Priceless, Absolutely Perfect.
