Shes feeling a bit left out when her brother comes round to paint his marines.

It doesn't need to be a playable army just something we can paint.
My cousin gave her a squad of Howling banshees and 3 other female eldar but i have no idea what they are.

I haven't been into 40k myself for about 15 years so alot has changed.

So what female units can i get for the niece to paint?

bolter bitches are the most girly army in 40k, mainly because they are girls.

SoB are hardly girly. Ultra-violent nuns with big explodey guns and flamethrowers and powered armour?

Eldar are a possible choice. Female warriors who AREN'T raving lunatics, elegant and curvy designs on stuff, and a smug self-superior attitude.
Oh, and pointed ears. Girls love elves.

Yus, my lady likes the eldar, they are very elegant models and alot of big hair and varied colours... course... she also likes tyranids ... she distinctly dislikes SoB tho, I think they are for us boys.

Now this tau army I saw on ebay was definately for the lasses:

Go for Tyranids. Give the winged ones butterfly wings, and paint them a bright shiny colour scheme.

My friend is doing an all girl eldar army by adding the wood elf heads to her troops. Does the job.

Or the Teddy Bear Space Marines

http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=130952

Teddy Bear heads can be obtained from Eureka Miniatures.

http://eurekamin.com.au/index.php?cPath=87_126_184

Apparently you can get plastic Teddy Bear heads from bead stringing suppliers. It's all in that TMP thread.

I think a Teddy Marines chapter would be awesome.

If you don't need something playable, then I would go Fantasy. Wood Elves are great for girls. Lots of trees and capes and little pixies and faeries. Also, bretonnian sorceresses are great for little girls.

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair.

Videogame research indicates girls tend to prefer fantasy over science fiction.

Tau are pretty girly.

With the main objective being to paint the pretty minis then Sisters could be a very good choice. Highly detailed models, if a bit expensive due to being metal. A little on the "you're a girl so here's an army of girls, lol" side, though.

Eldar are also a nice painting army.

I'd second the Wood Elf comment, and also the Eldar one.
Not a fan of sisters. They're too...gimmicky.

I'd just buy a bunch of Reaper, or other misc. mini's that you think she may like if playing isn't important.

By the way, the Hello Kitty and Teddy Bear marines are awesome. My wife has now begun bugging me to do something similar. This is the end....

Most entries in the Tau codex could serve pretty well. Girliest race in the universe.

It's been proven that girls like orks. Don't ask me why, but there have been studies, and it's true.

I second the Teddy Bears from Eureka. They actually have several Teddy Bear options, including British Colonial style bears (i.e. Pratorian/Zulu style), "Seven Years' Picnic" late 18th century style, Pirate, etc. There was a thread on the TMP somewhere where the guy had done two SYP Bear armies for his daughter (blue and pink I think) made up of 20 guys and a leader on (toy) 'horse'. Might be up your daughters' alley, and just use the bears as 'counts as' whatever.

otherwise, I'd go with Eldar. Lots of Harlequin. Bright Colors.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Seriously, no one's suggested a Slaaneshi Marine army?

They're pink and they have tentacles? What more could a girl want...

Wait...

Clarification: Is she Japanese?

How old is said neice?

If under 14, I would go for wood elves.

If over 14, I would actually go Space Marines? Or Eldar... No idea why in heck space marines but I just think they would work for her? (Oh yeah, only girl player I know uses them.)

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Inquisition led Sisters of Battle.

One or two squads of sisters. 'Sisters' haha. Celestians or Seraphim + Saint Celestine and armoured support. The helmeted Sisters (Celestians) make better models than the angry nuns.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, there are a lot of good lord of the rings minis that I bet your niece would enjoy painting. Lotsa' elf chicks.

My daughter is 10. She's partial to Chaos.

She thinks Orks are "neat" and looks forward to all of the AoBR Space marines I'm going to be letting her paint.

Why not let her peruse the GW site with your help and see what makes her say "Ooooh. I like those."
yes. i'm saying to let a female make a choice for herself. Please, don't hate me for it. : )

I think my first choice would have been Wood Elves, but because my friends play 40k I wanted to go with Eldar or Tau. The other girl in our gaming group already plays Eldar and her husband plays Tau *sigh* Thankfully I'm a little more darker, and decided to play with the super evil Dark Eldar; who are totally not for impressionable young girls.

The best thing to do is let her click around the GW website and flip through the rulebooks; looking at all the pictures to find an army she likes.
