Well, after 6 months of assembling, painting, tweaking & procrastinating my Mars pattern Warhound is ready to be deployed.

Apologies for the general gloominess of the lighting. Even though I used a daylight lamp my photography just isn't that good.

No specific Titan College is intended, other than one loyal to the Imperium. I fancied a painting project using a differing colour scheme from anything else I have in my collection. The red & black heraldry on the right leg ties in with my SoB forces & in addition my Imperial Guard forces have red helmets & vehicle turrets, so there is a degree of complimentation across my armies. Possibly a campaign / battle group identifier?

The Warhound just had to stand out (despite its size, of course!), hence the chequer board blue & white.

All in all, I'm happy with it and thought I'd share.

Looks very nice. The quartered scheme on all of the panels is well done, but seems to give him much more a patchwork look than I was expecting when I saw the first few photos.

The addition of the chains is a very nice touch and really gives you plenty of extra detail without feeling it's overboard.

I'd definitely go through and give it a serious work over with some good weathering at this point though! Even if you don't though, it's a hell of a feat!

Props!

I love the chains.

But the metals seem a bit flat.

Perhaps a very thin wash of Tamiya Smoke / Devlan Mud?

Completely off-topic, at the mention of the Collegia Titanica I imagined printing some sweaters with Adeptus Titanicus-style font saying "College" on the front.

P.S. Nice work!

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

I think the large patches of red kinda kill it adding to the patchwork, almost hodge podge look to the titan.

Without the red bits of armor, this model would be god.

As is, its only as cool as one of the coolest things I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!

Seriously, It's good, great even, but the red armour should be either white, or whatever blue you used.

I'd keep the loincloth as is though.

Wonderful Warhound you got there! The checker pattern reminds me of the old school Epic Space Maring paint jobs you would see.

I love how the chains have the bells on the end of them.

I would try brighten up the plasma coils.

Great job.

I love the chains, hanging skull and bells. Such a big thing like a titan needs details to come alive IMO. Youve really pulled it off.

I admire anyone who buys and actually builds and paints the thing.

I think your paint scheme is nice, but does have 2 small problems.

Red.

The banners are way too distracting in that colour and should either go completely (not what i think should happen) or be chnaged to a more muted colour, something that won't take all the attention from the titan.

Essentially you have a patchwork problem but removing the red armour and changing the banners colour will make a huge difference.

Kudos on the blue/white scheme though, very striking

Awesome. I love the quartered scheme. It does look fairly busy and stuff, but I think it works very well on the Titan.

All the added gubbinz works good as well. But I do agree with GD. SOme weathering would be cool.

Nah.. keep the red in contasts with the rest , which might otherwise just be too blue/cold looking . Also the red fits in nice with the SOB . Although having said that christmas is aproaching and you should lose the red nose before it gets dubbed rudolf.

Hello folks,

first of all thanks for the general appreciation & constructive comments. I'm not Golden Demon material, but I do enjoy painting & modelling a lot.

Weathering wise I'm going to practise with some powdered artists chalks & soft brushes on some of my various vehicles first, since other than some thin brown ink washes for rust streaks, or black ink streaks / dry brushing for oil & exhaust smears I've never tried dust or mud style weathering. Obvioulsy I don't want to balls up my Warhound, so bear with me. I'm the first to admit most of my models have that 'fresh from the factory' or 'just off the troop ship' look to them.

The banners I made from the soft metal from from various paste & glue tubes. They are affixed just by rolling one end around the chain. I can always practise & make some more banners & try them out. Something to do over the long winter months ahead, methinks.

The chains are from a model train suppliers in England & are part lead based, hence the darker colour & small scale. I first tried shinier metal chain from my local craft shop but it was too bright for my taste. The small eyelets they hang from are tiny brass hoops with small threaded screws that I picked up from a DIY store (usually used for screwing into window frames for hanging net curtains up I think). The bells are from a pet shop & usually keep parakeets & budgies entertained. I figured for such a massive warmachine stealth isn't really a consideration, and so I thought some devotional bells wouldn't go amiss. I'm planning on hanging a crucified Tau or Eldar from one of the long dangling chains just to annoy my mates who field those armies. It's what the Imperials would do, I think.

The interior of the cockpit & the crew are painted, but I didn't bother with the interior of the body. Maybe one day I'll get round to it, but I still have about 60+ Imperial Guard & similar number of SoB to do first (until the next release of Imperial vehicles in 2009, that is).

My rationale for the red armour flashes & banners is that although Titan Legions may be spread far across the Imperium, and in turn are built on various Forgeworlds, their roots are firmly with Mars. In my mind the tech-priests & princeps don't want to anger the Omnissiah by having no red on the warmachines, but I do take your point. I was trying to go for an archaic look to it heraldry wise, what with the blue / white chequerboard styling. I figured that the only way an ancient warmachine gets to be ancient is by lots & lots of dedicated maintenance including rust removal & applying a fresh coat of paint from time to time between engagements (the better to please the machine spirit within). Would admantium even corrode?

On saying that, any suggestions for what colour to paint the nose may well be considered.

\or I might just go with Rudolph for the Warhounds name. Cheers!

Just to get it in first...

Rudolph, the red-nosed Warhound
had a very tech-priest nose
And if the Guard ever saw him,
They would even say it shows.

All of the other princeps
used to laugh and call it names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join any Forgeworld war games.

Then one heretical Christmas Eve
The Omnissiah came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you lead the attack tonight?"

Then all the infantry loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed Warhound
you'll take incoming fire away from me!

If it's stupid & it works, it's not stupid.

That song should be written very small on one of the banners.
