You GET TO Convert DA KOPTA!!!

The first Dakka Mekboy Challenge entry period is now closed, it is time for the all important public vote to narrow the entries down to the top 5 for the judges to vote on! To review the full rules for the contest click here!

Despite the fact that this challenge had such a narrow focus (only people with a Kopta model could really participate) we still got eleven fantastic entries for you guys to vote on. Kudos to the amazing work all the entrants accomplished!

We need you, the public to help choose our FIVE finalists. This is your chance to let your voice be heard! Which ones are your favorites?
You can choose more than one model to vote for! Vote for at LEAST one user, but feel free to throw votes around to any of the models. Remember that the goal of this challenge was to create the most innovative and cool Deffkopta model, the quality of the paintjob isn't technically an issue.

The top five entries with the highest number of votes after four days of public voting will become our finalists from which a winner will then be picked by a panel of judges. Pictures marked with a 'mod entry' watermark are not eligible for finals consideration but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still vote for them!!!

To see all the (full-sized) pics of the entries in the Dakka Gallery, CLICK HERE.

Good luck to everyone in the poll!

Well, the final judges' tallies have been completed and the winner (exactly as with the public vote) by unanimous decision was entry #6, the "harley" Kopta entered by Teek.

The final judges' voting went as follows:

First Place: Entry #6 by Teek.
Second Place: Entry #2 by Thalor.
Third Place: Entry #9 by Pipboy101.
Fourth Place: Entry #10 by Cypher871.
Fifth Place: Entry #1 by Zinge.

Congratulations to everyone who entered, you really all did an amazing job!

Thanks again to the sponsors for this challenge, Dakka user Daggermaw and GorillaTactics.org.

I always thought the original kopta was a great model, but these are amazing. Many congrats and thanks to everyone who entered - these brilliant models will no doubt inspire a lot of people! Voting is going to be very very difficult.

What material is the windshield for the kopta with windshield?

I wish the arms one had a better pic. I need to see it!

You can't have the windshield answer until the public voting is over (cause the only person who knows for sure isn't allowed to reveal its his/her model)!!!

And as for the 'arms' pic, that's sadly the best image you're going to get of it. Apparently he/she only has a webcam available until after X-mas.

Retract the blade? Why would any self-respecting ork ever try to retract the blade?

Long Winged Plane, I like very much, nods to the photography on the Harlie as well. Good work guys!

Honorable mention for the transformer and long arms, for being unique ideas!

I picked #10, the one with the extended tail. They're all great conversions, especially #6 with the buzzsaw, it's just that that one kind of ended up looking like a giant chopper (guess that was the intention) which...well...is cool too but a bit too much for my tastes.

Besides, the conversion of #10 looks really subtle, as if it isn't a conversion at all and as I say: the best conversions are those that don't look like conversions at all!

Just some comments without reading anybody else's comments to avoid being biased. Sorry if I'm just repeating what everybody else has had to say.

Entry 11 - LOVE the concept, really original, definitely never seen anything like it. Love the engine on the back, very nice. Don't care much for the white weapons, or the cleanness of the painting, seems like it could use some more layers or something. Love all the orky plates and so on, very nice.

Entry 10 - Nice work done to add some interesting mods to the chopper concept. Love the chain going to the back blade. I also love the empty shell cases being ejected from the BS. Painting is nice, and eye catching. I also like the cross hair, and the little comm link arm on the helmet.

Entry 01 - Love the huge buzzsaw, it really looks like it's a part of the original model. I'm really keen to see this model painted up.

Entry 05 - Lots of neat concepts and conversions all over this one. The "wings" on the side of the model are a nice touch, and show some originality.

Entry 07 - LOVE the concept, you almost can't tell where the original choppa went, the big tell tale for me is the grey plastic. The WWI Biplane is a perfect idea for an Orky model, it's a shame they don't have something like this...

Entry 09 - Nice crisp paint job, interesting concept, everything really flows well on this model and it really looks like an orky model.

Entry 02 - Lovely creation, looks like a WWI fighter jet, Love the bomb on the back end. Not too impressed with that fact that the stabilizer rooter is still on the model, I think I would have removed that, just extended the tail, which is excellent BTW. Love the BS on the wings, really looks ACE.

Entry 04- Love the Canopy, looks like whatever you were doing worked out REALLY well. I must know your secret! I also like the reference to a more cartoony sort of whirlybird, reminds me of hannabarbara somehow.

Entry 08 - Can't really make anything out, the picture is WAY to blurry, so I'll reserve judgement.

Entry 06 - WOW, just WOW, really knocks my socks off. It's VERY clear that a ton of time and effort has been spent on this model already, can't wait to see it painted up. There is so much on this model that's well done, it's hard to list it all. I LOVE the WWI airplane engine, which appears to be scratch built. I also love the custom buzzsaw, and how it looks cool, yet usable. I LOVE the scratchbuild chainguns on the wings. The attention to detail shown on the rotter attachment is WAY cool. The pipes coming off the engine are also really neato. I also love the extended tail, and the use of elements to control the choppa instead of the original rear rotter.

Entry 03 - The transforming on this model is way cool, in addition to the grot on the wing. I'm having a hard time determing what parts come from the original choppa, maybe the rotter on top?

Although they are all excellent, I gotta cast my vote for Entry 06.

With the hawt plasticard work on the Harley Kopta, I think I know who did it, but will reserve my guess until after the results are in!

Number 6 rocks. Great shape, amazing detail, good theme.

Even the Russian judges give it a 6.0. No wait, that's figure skating.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

The photo is horrid and I expect will cost you votes. Even if your work is a masterpiece of hobby genius, there's no way we can tell. If you want to win one of these, you really really need to have a very clear image of your work.

Just to echo a previous poster... photo quality hurt some here.

With that said #6 was the best technical display of conversion and originality. #10 was a runner up.

You know, after looking at the entries again and seeing the Copta with a Windshield, I'm a little surprised nobody went all Cobra Trouble Bubble on this competition.

I think they're all great. Some really good ideas and execution. The unpainted ones are nice because you can see where the conversion work has been done -- painting definitely wasn't needed for this competition.

It's a pity the picture of no.8 is so blurry. It looks like it might be a really neat conversion if you could see it properly.

I know it's not in the letter of the rules but could no.8 be allowed to enter a revised picture?
