Hey guys, does anyone recognize this Ork here? I don't know where he came from, and since I will sooner or later play in the GW store in town I wanted to make sure, since I use him as my 'Ardboy nob.
If anyone can give me some photo which proves this, it would be great

I THINK it is an early Flash Git.

My thoughts as well. The early Badrukk was a pirate and that hat is what leads me to agree with you.

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

It is definatly Games Workshop material.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

no I really think that is an EARLY RT mini. My oldest brother had a bunch of RT minis forever ago, and if you google search RT minis Id bet youll find that sucker on there. Back then EVERYTHING looked that bad

I don't think it is....

Look at Stuff of Legends....that'll give you an idea. From memory, it was mainly the Nobz and Character there were one pieces. The rank and file tended to have seperate arms.

Prior to the plastic arms, there were a lot of one piece orks, that were similar to that one. I've got a unit of 30 different old ones sorta like that, that I'm painting up. Using the old tinboyz for my 'eavy shootas'. Most of the ones that are early flash gitz have that skull somewhere on them.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

It's not looking familiar. If it's GW, it's from before RT.

I would suspect it's from one of the various 'not-GW' knock-off ranges from the 90's. Or possibly from Grenadier.

wow that took forever, I did find one of some dudes old ass battlewagon. ontop are 2 orks that look very similar to the one you have. Infact if you zoom in you can see the one with the black hat even has the weird armor legs like yours.

Yank off that base and look at the tab.

I don't recognise it ( and I have a lot of old RT ork minis). I think it may not be GW (especially looking at its right arm - seems a bit small even for RT orks)

Is there any chance of taking the base off and checking the tab? or is the tab gone? All the GW minis will have a mark on the tab.

Still nice mini anyway.

The tab is gone. I cut if off. Here's the thing, I'm not 100% sure what was written on it. It might have been GamesWorkshop, but I can't remember.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Doesn't look like a GW miniature, and I was pretty familiar with their Ork range back in the late '80s - early '90s. It does share some similarities with the old Harlequin Miniatures 40K knock-offs from that period though.

Looks like an old Ork Nob in Power Armor. Most likely a Freeboota.

It is in fact an "Ork Pirate" from the early RT days. IIRC, in second ed, ork pirates were called freebooters. This model's in my collection of RT orks, albeit unpainted.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

He looks very much like a Rogue Trader era Freebooter (A Flash Git, since back then you could have ork-genestealers working as freebooters).

Mind, I don't recognize him from any of the pictures I've seen, but that is his look.

My honest opinion? The guys working in the store don't know late '80s Ork Freebooter minis any better than you do. He looks very GW, so unless we can confirm that he isn't, I think he's fair game.

The real way to tell would be to remove him from his base and look at the metal tab connecting his feet. It should have GW or Citadel on it.

That is what I think it is. The hat is what makes me think so. This was also about the time when ork stuff became very smiley, right at the beginning of the 'red' era. This was between RT and 2nd edition of 40k essentially. The orks had two giant books for their army list, and the Eldar only had a little list in Issue 127(I think) of White Dwarf!!! Man I'm old.

I am not so sure anymore. If it were GW, I would expect squared off toes on the feet for Orks, and better definition around the teeth.

Doesnt anyone read the prior comments? The fact that Gavin Thorne confirmed what model it is, from what time and that he actually HAS the SAME model in his collection doesnt end the debate?
