Well DrH wins points for the Gruber reference! now lets see how well he can fire his little cannon at the enemy! and thanks everyone for the comments again, it's always nice to hear good things and even better when it matches your own thoughts on your models I used a quick main style and worked the lenses to be a focal point and it appears I did a good job! phew! I will also get around to doing another face tutorial very soon, maybe next week? the stubble is easy, you just add a small dot of black to your flesh colour and paint the hair line then add a little bit more so it's only slightly darker and paint the lower parts of the jaw where our beards grow faster! I also like to mix a little red gore again into the flesh colour and add a bottom lip and cheek highlights if I can be bothered

Gits, thank you! I am glad you like the tank I am quite proud of it if i'm honest trying to blend my two styles I wasn't sure if it would work but it seems to not look silly which is a good thing, I also just bought 2 more Russes and a devil dog from swap shop although the russes don't have side sponsons so i will have to throw the 'ol fishing line out and ask anyone if they have or know someone who is willing to sell or trade some? I don't mind what they are be it bolter, las, plas etc. but i'll need the actual side housings as well as the weapons! even if anyone knows a bits site i can raid?

now, next week I'm painting for a day or 2 and I'm not sure what to focus on? I will be washing all my panels and rivets on my 3 chimera's but I'm not sure if I should do more on the stained glass windows? the generator? or another Vet squad?

Dudes and dudettes! I had a productive day albeit not a huge painting day I grabbed my Chimera's (hey! mind outta the gutter!) and proceeded to add a wash at all the joins and over each rivet on the vehicle it made a real difference for such a simple task and spurred me on to finish the ink wash on 2 out of 3 of them!

here's a comparison with the un inked one.

Can you say Marbo?.......

......MARBO!

Yes, I scored a pair of arms from a friend and thought i'd try and work out if they could be used for my Marbo conversion! turns out they certainly could!

I had a mortar loading arm and I cut the mortar from the hand, then cut across the wrist and shortened the arm so it looked 'right' and liquid GS'd the join, then I cut the bowie knife from another one down and thinned the blade as i don't like the small swords they have! I then I drilled the hand and added a brass rod as a handle and glued the blade downward to have a more 'knife fighting' feel to him.

I had the legs i had already converted to look more stealthy but placing the torso onto them it looked wrong as the legs looked too wide for the body and it just looked placed on with nothing to 'connect' the two parts, so I grabbed a Cadian torso and with a box cutter I shaved the part that had the belt on it off and glued it to the legs.

then I got the 'ol liquid GS and filled out the join

after it dried I glued the torso on, using of course the muscle bound 'Rambo' style one and then the arms and filled the joins again to smooth out the body a bit then it was the crowning glory! a head from Mad Robot Miniatures 'personality' set! I used the Sly Stallone one as I really didn't have a choice did I

And here he is with primer and a wash to see how he looks!

I shall be painting him tomorrow as I just won't be able to help myself and I promise I will get better clear photo's in my booth instead of rushed ones eh!

Marbo got some paint! if i'm totally honest i'm not overly happy with his paint job but I like the look and feel of the conversion, now I need comments to buoy me up or tear me down it was the first time i had to paint a more expanse of flesh with his body, and I made his pallor kind of ruddy so he looks a bit sunburned or flushed from exertion? I also finished inking the last chimera, those bloody vehicles have so many rivets it's like heaven!

anyway here's my Marbo conversion, no custom name yet but i'm thinking

So, next session looks like it'll be chimera work for me! I want to finish them or i'll likely neglect them as they're to a point they can be used!

anyway love to know what you think.

Oh yes nerd! this is indeed how rambo...i mean marbo...should be done!

I absolutely am in awe of the freehand aquila, that was a touch of genius that helps to break up the flesh nicely! The camo trousers also look perfect and serve as a nice way to link him to the other guys.

bearing in mind i think this model is beautiful, i could make a couple of very very minor ultra picky critiques:

Firstly on the picture with the aquila, his sideburn seems to be a little wobbly! (...i did say these were minor things! but i thought id mention it because if you were so inclined it would take a fairly small amount of time to touch up.)

Secondly HIS left eye seems slightly too large, now i shouldn't comment on eyes because i know they are the single most frustrating thing in the world, but if you could squeeze a tiny bit more white on nose side of his eye i think it would make a real difference, as well as bringing up his eyelid ever so slightly (if that makes sense)

Finally (and i am seriously being overly critical now!) the longer cut on his back, where it joins his shoulder could do with being ever so slightly thinner maybe? also to make it look more raised and sore you could mix a bit more red into your flesh tone and just paint it around the edge of the cuts.

You chimeras however are perfect! and they arn't even done yet!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the critique J, good comments and I agree with you :-) I am not 100% happy with the paint job and am seriously considering stripping him and re doing him he just seems a little below what I know i can do and I'm worried if I try and fix him I'll overdo it and stuff him completely! yet I am reluctant to throw him into that bath of simple green! also the pics aren't as good as they should be either :-(

Oh man, I'm negative today aren't I! sheesh! perhaps I should touch some bits up and try taking pics with my phone?

and thanks for the props on the Chimera's! ;-) they should be pretty sweet when I do them too! then i have 5 more tanks on the way!

He's a little pale for being shirtless in the wild. Maybe if you wash his skin overall with a flesh wash? That should give him a tanned look? I think his skin is just a little too complimentary to the fatigue colors.
You've got plenty of pink color in his skin, an overall wash will be translucent, and won't hide your beautiful flesh painting below, it'll just tint it all slightly.
