5/13: See last post for the latest on this conversion. I've kept the OP so you can see the progression.
Enclosed are pics of a warbike with a sidecar SANS the driver and gunner. The bike is one of the older 4th/3rd edition bikes and the biker is just too puny to serve as a warboss. I'm gonna get a nob model and use him as my warboss
The sidecar was made from a bunch of different parts. The actual body is a Leman Russ turret mounted on the top hatch of a Rhino. The gun is off a 3rd/4th ed. warbuggy as is the wheel and wheel well. The supports for the wheel and between the bike are just bits I had, don't remember which set. There are other bits in there and I found the top half of a cold one head I'm gonna add to it to serve as the front fender on the bike.
For the gun I want to find a grot whose flying through the air and attach him to the gun (ammo runt). Anyone know of such a model. It's as if the bike is ging so fast the grot can only hold on by the gun.
This is unpainted for now but that is my next task.
My only question is the sidecar doubles the width of the bike. Would I run into problems with fielding it?

i like the side car idea and as far as your question i think there is no problem fielding it, its just bigger in size ( which makes it more of a fire magnet) hope to see it finshed.

I don't see any problem with fielding it.
As far as the conversion goes: I like the idea a lot.
I had actually thought about doing one sort of like that myself - but with an attack squig in the side-car.

Problem: the side car is huge compared to the bike and thus draws attention away from the Warboss.

I share the same reservation as !? in that the sidecar is huge, however it is its size compared to the puny bike that concerns me.
A new bike would be bigger (simply because of all the add ons) and would likely look more appropriate.

I agree with above statements.
Bigger bike, but cool sidecar conversion.

Yeah, can you bulk up the bike with a bigger fairing and mudguards etc?
I like the model, but it is rather wide - another option would be to use it as a buggy?

Nah, if it's a warboss, it can be that wide.
Ditto the call for a bigger bike. This excellent idea deserves to be done right. That, or have the grot driving the bike (still flying back, barely holding onto the handles) and the warboss in the sidecar, free to krump away without the distraction of goin' places!

I agree with the bigger bike as well on second look. I figured the width would be okay sice it would use the 2" base anyway right? I'll have to get a plastic warbike kit and try that out. I lvoe how every new edition of orks the orks are bigger and bigger. When 3rd came out my 2nd ed goffs were like grots. Now my 3rd ed bikez are like unicycles! It's okay, beucase it all looks good!
I'll be ordering the model soon and I'll be sure to post a pic once I move the side car to the new model. ANy thoughts on the Grot? ANyone know of a grot bit which is a grot holding on for dear life to a fast movign vehicle. Seems I rememebr something like that in my travels somewhere.
I also like the idea of hte warboss in the sidekar but I can't see a boss lettin' a grot drive. But it would be cool. I also considered hte oversized warbosso n the small bike but that would be too comical.

Totally on the same boat as the others. Save for a new bike and do this one right. The only problem i see with fielding is what was stated before. Its wider and bigger, SO that means LOS will get it hit more. But being a warboss, I wouldnt worry to much, they are tougher then coffin nails

Making a nob as the driver and puting hte WB in the sidecar would creat hit allocation/casualty issues (I think.) I remember the issues with the two-man crew serve IG weapon teams.
I'll have to try and get that grot bit. GW will have it on their website yea? I'll look tonight when I order the bike.

Nah. That wouldn't even be an issue. It would just be "counts as" an Ork Warboss on bike. Orks don't have Attack Bikes. Though you'd have 2 Orks on the model, it would fuinctiona s a single model (couldn't shoot extra weapons, get its' own attacks, etc).

This konvershun has gone through quite the change. Pictured enclosed is only the origional sidecar. I've attached it to one of the new bilkes and I'm glad I did becuase now the sidecar doesn;'t horribly overshadow the bike.
I took the AOBR warboss, chopped off his legs and stuck him in the sidecar. Additioanlly, I used one of the nob heads instead of the warboss head. I wanted a head with goggles but none of hte biker heads were big enough and none of the nob heads had goggles.
I removed the TL Big Shoota which was on the sidecar becase the main bike will have Dakka - That and I figure the warboss would be going to town with his kustom kombi-weapon and power klaw.
The Only thing I havn;'t done is based it. I'm no sure if this is a requirement at this point ebcuase of the size but I can put the main bike on a bike base and the sidecar on a 2 inch disc base meant for hte warboss.
I'm also having a hell of a time getng the strut which attaches the two bikes to stick. It's fastened quite securely on the sidecar but where it goes into the bike only the end touches with two points between the strut and pipes of the bike. I was thinking green stuff but I am open to suggestion. I use gel super glue which isn't setting fast enough. I may go to the liquid stuff or, if someone knows of a good adhesive, let me know. For now I'm not going to worry about it since I want the two apart for painting purposes.
I'll also be adding more bits to the sidecar and a glyph where hte TL BS used to be.
Well, let me know what you think!

I like it, the new version is definitely better. Re the connection strut, yes it needs reinforcing, both for looks and also to stop it breaking every time you transport it to/from a game :( This is orky tech, add quite a few connection girders and rivets and it will look fine.

I would only put a bike on a base if you wanted to have scenery around the model. Its not strictly necessary for the game as the model stand up by itself quite nicely and has a reasonably big area take.
