Ok this is my chance to get pics of how you keep your paints. I KNOW i am a neat freak yet the other half complains about my paints being messy, so i thought if i could show him how you guys keep your paints maybe there would be some that would put him straight about messy and neat! So if you don't mind post some pic's of your paints and work station so i can defend myself

Ive got a computer desk with the GW paint set split into two, inks and metals in their slots along with the brushes on the top of the desk, and all the colours and washes in their slots un the pullout part where the keyboard would be.

Works great, saves a lot of space.

I too use the paintier system. I have a six-story one (custom ordered a couple extra trays and spacers) that holds everything for my normal painting.

My airbrushing paints are, unfortunately, mostly disorganized in a drawer. (They're still just Citadel paints, but mixed 50/50 with water for airbrushing, so they're useless for brush painting, hence keeping them separate).

I'm the same way Redbeard. My brush paints are in order but the airbrush stuff is all in a big plastic bin. I think after setting up and painting I just neglect the clean up till I have to spray again.

Mine are just randomly dropped in a box because I don't actually have a permanent painting desk set up. When I need to use them I just grab the box and spread everything out. It's a pain in the butt.

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

I'm yer " throw them in the corner any old how" kinda person. One day I'll take this painting lark seriously. Some of my paints are over 10 years old . I used buy and sell stuff on ebay a lot , and I ended up with many bits and pieces that wouldn't sell. I've got GW paint pots of all shapes from over the years, all thrown in a tin. Chaos rulez.

I built a shelf for my paints, its realy shallow (1 pot deep) and has elastic stretched along the front to stop them all falling off when my 5 yr old daughter bumps into them.

I have a couple of pc's set up so I can watch movies or listen to music etc, while I paint. I paint on the tray (its actually a small 'drywipe' board) so that I can slide it back in under the amp/speaker shelf when I'm not painting.

Well, if disorganized counts, I'm in. Realistically, it doesn't matter that much so long as I can find what I need when I need it........ish.

Organized is a relative thing. Honestly, so long as you can do your painting and modeling and clean up the area when you're not using it sufficiently to keep the piece with your housemates, it shouldn't be an issue.

That's awesome.

Mine are just scattered all over my desk. It isn't very roomy, so I can't use a Lazy Susan, so I think I'm gonna have to do something like that. Thanks for the idea!

Mine are all on a shelf on my painting desk, in a vaguely rainbow sort of order. That's the GW ones. The Vallejo ones just live in their case they came in.

I'm not the best painter in the world, but I get a lot of compliments when I go to the FLGS. A lot of people ask me "how do you paint so well?" This thread reminds me, the simplest/best answer is probably "I don't paint on a tray, balanced on my lap while I watch TV on the couch, illuminated by a single 40 watt bulb in the next room."

Why do people make things so hard?

I paint at a table I have set up entirely for the purpose with all my brushes, paints, and other tools set up, and with four different bulbs throwing light on my workspace from different angles.

As in all things, the best way to do difficult things is to make them as easy as possible.

In my case... poorly... I've got them scattered all over the desk I use for painting, with the most recently used closest to the pallet...

I did have them slightly organised at one stage... but that rapidly turned into organised chaos once I started painting things... and I'll just ninja edit my post with a pic...

I have mine placed in a rainbow, I can reach and take the right paint without looking at this point.

I would go completely insane if I had to actively search for each colour, instead of knowing the exact area it would be in :(

Make it easier for yourselves and organise them! You won't look back.

Looking around my living room right now I have a small plastic crate of paints etc behind the settee, 3 diferent lots of paints along the wall to my left, another 3 lots on the shelving unit to my right and another lot behind me in front of the fireplace. they are all in the same room which counts as organised for me...
