If I knew, I'd tell you.

Hey guys, I'm new to Dakka but I've been playing 40k for a while now. After looking through some posts I have come to realise that my true interest is in =I=munda. Obviously it is Easter soon so I will be getting some money to fund my gang, however I am stuck for ideas. I would like to base it around an Inquisitor and 2 converted cherubs, but I also want some other cool models. So, as my first W.I.P gang, I'm going to leave the model choice to you guys.
Thanks.

Hey Jack.

It's kinda weird if your true interest is =I=munda and your stuck for ideas with your FIRST gang When people usually have dozens of gang ideas. Just read a few of Abnett's best: Eisenhorn and Ravenor and look at the =I= rule book and Dark Heresy books for inspiration and I am absolutely sure your set for modeling with bunch of ideas

Agreed, the spirit of =I=munda (to me anyway) is personal creativity inspired by the massive wealth of quality artwork produced by GW over the years (yet never realised truly in miniature form) and ambitious conversion work.

The sources Migs has suggested are a selection of the best for inspiration. There are also a fair amount of logs on these forums that should provide additional inspiration (Mig's Legion and Shades of Greye logs, Xan's log etc).

Cheers,

Dante

Wow! Can I say as a long time "non-member" how honoured I feel to have my first Dakka post appear after two of the most inspirational guys on here!

I was just going to agree with migsula and alao recommend the Inquisitor rulebook as there is some fantastic artwork in there. Also just trawl around on here to see what others are upto...

I am just about to start my own retinue, having been inspired by the =I= project to get back into the hobby for the first time in a couple of years! A quick raid of what didn't dissapear on eBay has left me with enough pieces for a (true-scale) Space Marine, an Imperial Guardsman, an Imperial Guard sniper and a Kroot mercenary. I'm thinking of going along the Ordo Xenos/bug-huntin' path... see it really is THAT easy!

Totally agree with Migs and Dante, you really just need to immerse yourself in something like this. The background, fluff, and artwork is your guide as you follow them down the road to true inspiration for your warband project.

Hmm, I would suggest trying to go with something more "original" than an Inquisitor and his retinue. It has kind of been "done to death". What about some pirates, or criminals? Or some sort of (Rogue) trader with his bodyguards? You might even include some sort of Imperial noble with his/her bodyguards.

What about some sort of Ecclessiarchical figure with a bunch of followers and only let the women be armed with anything serious (more than a pistol) since the Ecclessiarchy isn't allowed to have "men at arms".

Another idea of Serves from a Space Marine chapter, nobody really knows what they look like so you can go totally crazy there!

Sorry guys, maybe I worded this wrong. I DO have tons of ideas, but I am not experienced enough to know which models I should chose. As I said I will be sticking to the idea of the converted cherubs and the Inquisitor. I apologise if anyone misunderstood... all I want is a list of models to use for:

An Inquisitor, 2 cherubs, a mechanic, a Psyker, a heavy weapon specialist and some normal gangmembers.

Thanks.

Oh and Malika. I like your ideas, however I only want the Inquisitor as a first GANGMEMBER, not the head honcho. At a later date I will introduce a Rogue Trader theme and go all out on my conversion skills to produce the "big guy". The inquisitor is just a fill in for a while until I get my hands on better looking Gang leaders.
Thanks

Thanks, Stynier. Nice ideas, however I wanted to do something a little more unique. I was thinking converting Witch Hunter's Missionary Jacobus as my first gang member. Give him a death mask type thing/ gas mask. I might also remove his beard. I have more ideas for other gang members but I don't know which models will suit them best.

No problem.

If you would post some of the ideas I will see what I can do to help.

Edit: Oh and Jacobus' beard may prove a little difficult to remove, unless you can trim pewter really good, and touch it up nicely. I tend to stay away from pewter models needing heavy modding, only because Im not good at trimming them or fixing them with gs, I don't have any experience with gs.

If I knew, I'd tell you.

It's nice to have someone who's interested. Ok, so heres my ideas.

Shotgun gangmember - wearing a deathmask of course.(jacobus conversion)

Heavy weapon specialist- I don't know which model would be cooler for this.

Flamer(purger)- witch hunter acolyte with gs flames coming from a brazier backpack.

Swords mistress- witch hunter death-cult assassin with a sacrificial type blade conversion. gs armour plates in some areas.

Mechanic- imperial guard missionary with plasma gun. Inquisitor pole swapped for a gs wrench. Give him a welders mask.

Will speak of more shortly, but I need to get my lazy but out of bed and get dressed.
Thanks.

I know how it can be not having people interested in whats going on.

So those all sound like pretty solid ideas, if you don't mind I'll post some ideas that might help later on. As well as check out those models to try and get the gist of what you wanna do to them, and see if I can make help full suggestions.

Catch ya when you get back.

Again no problem.

Ok, anyway here's my other ideas.

My imperial guard commisar with powerfist conversion may seem a little hard to understand but I will gs flames on the fist and add some armour plates to his legs. Might do something to his face- the mask theme seems to be popping up a lot lately don't you think?

Sniper- daemonhunter's vindicare with exitus pistol . I don't think I need to convert him to be honest.

Psyker- will update next post.

Your quite welcome.

Fist couple ideas hit me, one is for your heavy weapons specialist. What if you took the Eversor Assassin model, which ever you though would look best, and mod him to have what ever heavy weapon you want, he's got armor and the skull mask would make him look even more frighting if you ran into him in a dark ally.

Other idea is with the Mechanic you could take a guardsmen, give him a necron arm, maybe a leg to show bionics received from accidents. Make up a gs robe, Put a Eldar Vyper Pilot head on him for the welders mask, give him a Plasma Gun and a wrench and your good to go.

The Sniper, Commissar and Psyker all sound like great ideas.

Like you said the Vindicare wouldn't need much work, unless you wanted to make him more of a Ganger rather than a Vindicare.

Im not sure where the Commissar comes into play with the gang, but the ideas sound rather solid. A mask would defiantly be in order, maybe a splicing of the Steel Legion Commissar with the PF Commissar.

The Flagelant looks good for a Psyker, just throw some gs where you see fit.

If I knew, I'd tell you.

Brillaint idea for the Eversor conversion dude. I will try that.

Like you said "unless you wanted to make him more of a ganger than a vidicare" I agree with this but I just think that I would ruin the model if I chopped it up and gs it a little.

The commissar will be the enforcer of the gang. His powerfist is pretty big and when it has flames coming from it, it will look awesome. The mask will be a little more crude than others to fit the "if you dun do wut I say, I'ma beat you senseless" idea.

Glad you like it.

You're right, it could ruin the model and it doesn't seem like there is anything that actually needs to be added to it.

I have no doubt that a fiery power fist could look awesome, I'm wondering if the Commissar coat would go with the crude mask.

Hmm, the coat.... I didn't think about that. I could always gs it a bit so it looks less formal and more flowing and tattered.

Well if it's this Commissar, I don't know if there is an old model you have with a power fist or not, then the coat might not be too much of a problem with proper trimming and gsing, I'd just paint it a brown color and make it look rather worn and tattered.

That was the exact model I was thinking of.
By the way I just had a brain storm for the brute!

Imperial guard ogryn with a mask and backpack.

Ok then just making sure we were thinking about the same model.

Ogryn brute eh? With mask and back pack you say?

Might I suggest one of these?
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Chaos/Ogryn/ogsquad1.jpg

I know it might be looked upon as Heresy to mess with FW models, but I think you could pull off filling in the Chaos carvings with gs.

If I knew, I'd tell you.

They are nice models, but I could convert the normal ogryn for cheaper. I was thinking of using them for inspiration but they don't have guns! That's what I like about the normal ogryn- it has a nice hefty gun. And even if I did gs the FW a bit they still look like renegades.
Thanks for the idea though, I look forward to your other posts.

You sir, have given me an idea. I have just had a look at forgeworld's Daemonhunter Lord Hector Rex and retinue. It looks very very nice and would be great for a gang start.

Your welcome, I look forward to helping further. Lets go back and look at what you have so far shall we?

Commissar w/ PF = Enforcer w/ PF (On Fire) and Crude Mask

Ogryn = Ogryn Brute w/ Ripper Gun, Backpack and Mask.

WH Flaggelant from box set = Psyker w/ minor green stuff additions?

Vindicare w/ exitus pisto = Sniper

Eversor Assassin = Heavy weapons Ganger w/ modifications

Flamer(purger)- witch hunter acolyte with gs flames coming from a brazier backpack.

Swords mistress- witch hunter death-cult assassin with a sacrificial type blade conversion. gs armour plates in some areas.

Shotgun gangmember - wearing a deathmask of course.(jacobus conversion)

Mechanic- imperial guard missionary with plasma gun. Inquisitor pole swapped for a gs wrench. Give him a welders mask.

Now the question is what else do you need?

Also which model are you referring to here? Flamer(purger)- witch hunter acolyte

Edit: You like that model as well? I think its one of their best. I agree with you, Inquisitor Rex would make and awesome start for the gang, as well as a great center piece.
