If I remember correctly, GW/Citadel actually had a Salamander Green. That could have been in he early-mid 90's though. there's been so many models, games, paint, terrain, rules, etc. bouncing around in my head, timelines are near impossible to keep straight...

The way that i do mine is as follows:

Base: Knarloc Green ( so that the snot green can get an even coat
Layer 1: Snot green ( completely cover the knarloc green)
Shade: 1-3 coats of Thraka Green (depending on thickness)
Highlight 1: Scorpion green
Highlight 2: Scorpion green + skull white

Sure about a salamander green ever existed?

I had a hard time to find an appropriate green back in the days of codex armageddon.

Some pics in the actual codex for sallies, but no colors given.
Most people seem to use snot green....

I personally base with snot green, and highlight with a progressive mixture of snot green and rotting flesh.

Back in the Day = Pre 2nd Edition They had Salamander Black and Salamander Green.
They both came in the Space Marine Paint Set.
Can't show you pics of the booklet... GW legal and all that

And Salamander Green was probably more like Dark Angel Green now, since they were darker back then. Since 3rd ed they've been painted with Snot green and a scorpion green highlight.

When I painted mine there was only the standard paints so used a mix of dark green and black ink for shade, but the shade coats above make sense to me as well. You can also use a black base coat and use that to develope the shade but Snot covers black poorly, since it is very much a yellow based pigment. It takes forever to get a good strong basecoat of Snot over black though (so the Gnarloc green idea above is a good time saving tip).

If I knew, I'd tell you.

You might want a layer of goblin green so it is less dark...

this is a sallie i painted up back when the armageddon codex came out...
he is painted with:
dark angel green base
snot green layers
striking scorpion green highlights

simple and effective...

i do still have the original space marine paintset from the early 90's...
the salamander green is indeed, more or less, dark angels green...

cheers
