I have four pieces of my new necromunda board nearing completion of the construction phase. This board will be made up of 16" x 16" squares each of which should be able to be matched up with any of the other pieces. Each edge has 3 catwalk connections at standard heights. the non-building pieces can be rotated in any direction and will still work. The building is standardized too so that other building pieces can connect to make larger buildings. Enjoy. Questions, Comments, Criticisms welcome. I'm always looking for advice.

new piece... the 3 lined up is a full 4 feet so I still need another 4 for a normal sized necromunda board. I doubt I'll stop there though, I have a lot of ideas for multi-square pieces that I want to save until I have 9 like this.

LOVE it! Looks great, what are you using for the walkways themselves? Are they scratchbuilt or something pre-made?

It may be worth giving some build tips/tricks and obstacles to avoid in a 'how to' for this setup I would deffo want to know how you planned and built your board

The catwalks are foamcore with wire grating on top. I too am looking forward to seeing it with paint on it, but I want to build the first 9 blocks before I even start with the paint. I have an airbrush that I intend to use to do the bulk of the non-detail work but I'm not terribly experienced with it.

I planned this board out in sketchup and posted some of the concept work a short while ago:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/237558.page

I've deviated a good deal from the sketchups but building them first in sketchup really helped me get the dimensions right.
The hardest part in the building process has been getting the walkways positioned right on each side. In fact a number of the pieces you see are still not glued down to their masonite bases. The method I've been using to get them right is taking another piece of masonite with the premeasured walway locations drawn on and holding it against the piece I am working on with a square to keep the angle right.

The standard I'm using is 16" by 16" squares with 2" wide catwalks at 2"-4", 7"-9" and 12"-14". The middle one is 5" from the ground and the outer ones are 2.5" from the ground. The buildings on the cut-off building pieces extend to 10" in from the corner, while the floors extend back to 4" and 6" from the building face and the roof only extends 2" back on the sides. Soon I plan to make one of the building face pieces seen in the sketchups.

There will be a piece of PVC cut in half lengthwise (such that it looks half burried) running under the 5" walkways along the ground. The pipes will connect to eachother and to objects on the square. I was considering placing valves every so often along the pipes so you could arrange the board for a scenario where one team is trying to cut off fuel or water to a specific location from all sides. I'm looking for other ideas like that for things to put on the terrain that could be used as part of an objective in a special scenario so suggestions are more than welcome.

My oldest brother and I are tossing around the idea of necromunda for something different. That is one really badass board your making. Nice work

Yeah. I've been playing games workshop games since second edition 40k, and I've dabbled in nearly every miniature game that games workshop has produced since and Necromunda is still my favorite. I wish GW would be kind enough to come out with an update to necromunda bringing in some newer 40k rules and maybe adding a touch of kill-team and all that =I=munda stuff on these forums. But then again, why promote a game that only earns them $40 per player when you can promote apocalypse.

This is incredible. Please keep up the good work. I'd love to play 40K on this, but I suppose it is better suited to smaller battles. Still, in a game of Apoc, use this on a second table or something - why not? And only allow flying troops to reach it - this would cut down on the number of models in this incredibly modeled cityscape.

that is some nasty carpet goign on there.....

also nice baord can't wait to see what it looks like finished

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

I have alot! of Munda terrain form various sources and tend to end up with a table similar to yours when I put all my stuff out ( well most of it any way ). The probelm I run into, is the table looks cool as hell but we end up knocking figs over or push terrain around to actually play on it because of the tight quarters. You running into that yet? Its really nice work and I cant wait to see it painted up.

Well I've been trying to take the constraints of these damned human hands into account when building this stuff. With my last board, getting your hands in some places was impossible. There has still been a little difficulty playing test games on this board but with everything more locked in place nothing breaks or falls over.

Thanks for all the compliments, At this point I'm gonna finish what I've been doing with the cardboard on all the corners and railings and then it will be time for basing and rubbling. Only once that is complete will it be time to paint.

I'd love some suggestions for the next few phases.
In the meantime, heres some more pics
