For a moment there I though GW was trying to better their gak shipping rates. Silly me.
It's still a good offer... while it lasts.

It's not like you can actually get anything from GW for less than $15.

So Free shipping on orders of $15?
Let's see...
When I order anything of significance, it's through a discounter for which the savings far outweigh any shipping charge.
When I order anything from GW, it's bitz through the Bunker, for direct pick-up.
I don't see the benefit.
____
Now if GW were offering 20% off the pre-hike prices with free shipping, that'd be a different story!

Semi side question , does GW have some sort of agreement with their postal service to make their shipping worthwhile?

No. They did, however raise their prices by about 20%, which easily covers the 10% that would go toward postage...

K thats exactly what i was afraid to ask lol.
So basically for the people that spends $15 on a blister and have shipping cost $10 , the rest of the warhammer community is paying
for the difference via price hike.
Yet again , another stupid move by games workshop.

I think its funny that its news worthy when GW actually has a shipping rate that makes sense. Then agian it'll be better than when I ordered Gamesday tickets from online they hit me for $15 shipping and said tickets arrived over a month later in a nice plain envelope with a $.42 stamp.

Still no reason to use their site store. They charge obscene taxes.
Use your local GW if you need Direct only. At least then you pay the correct sales tax.
If you do not have a store nearby, Online stores are such a better deal.
Warstore, even with $5 shipping, vs their discounts is better than using GW's webstore.
Maelstrom is even better until the exchange rate changes. Valks are only $46.

that tops my obscene shipping story. in 2000, i bought 4 blisters of orks for $4 each on ebay from a guy who listed the shipping price as $4. when the final bill came, it was $16 for the blisters and $16 for the shipping. when i responded that i'd pay for that but leave 4 bad feedbacks if i didn't recieve 4 separate packages, we mutually agreed to part ways amicably. you win, mythos...

That's brilliant.
I went to buy tickets online and when I saw they were going to charge me $7 to ship them I called my local GW store to see if they had any left. I was told that they had one left (i needed three) and I was subsequently told they have no idea if/when they would be getting more. I was told this in a manner that left me feeling like I shouldn't even bother checking back on a latter day, that I should just buy my tickets at the convention center. Well, later that week I paid the same GW store a visit and asked if they had gotten any more in. Praise the emperor they got more in, but this isn't the climax of the story. I found out that WHILE I was on the phone initially asking about the tickets, they were right in the middle of unpacking their daily shipment... which contained the tickets... which were unpacked AS SOON AS I HUNG UP. Now why couldn't the guy on the phone say to me something along the lines of "We're not sure if we'll get more in, but we're unpacking our shipment right now why don't you try calling back in a minute."? It boggles the mind.

And speaking of free shipping, Maelstrom Games UK has free shipping as well. But their's is worldwide, not local. And they're cheaper. Why ever buy from GW?

Well, here in Small Town California it's hard to get direct only items and the previous $100 limit for free shipping was sometimes hard to hit. So having free shipping at the $15 level makes it easier to get those direct only minis.
Are there better deals out there, of course! Is this still a good thing, of course!

It's not US only, it's US and Canada. $15.01 US or $20.01 Canadian gets you free shipping till the end of June. Checking the actual GW site rather than relying solely on pieces of info posted on forums can be useful. From the GW site at the link I provided above:
Customer Service Free Shipping
We offer two easy ways to receive free shipping:
- Place an order with a value over $15 if ordering from our US site or $20 if ordering from our Canadian site.
- Place an order of any value and choose to pick it up from your local Games Workshop store.
Placing an order with a value over $15 US or $20 Canadian:
1. Place $15.01/$20.01or more of items in your Shopping Basket.
2. Proceed to checkout.
3. Make sure your items are being delivered to a single US or Canadian address.
4. Place your order.
Place an order of any value and choose to pick it up from your local Games Workshop store.
1. Place any value of items into your Shopping Basket.
2. Proceed to checkout.
3. In the shipping area of checkout select the option Ship to Store.
4. Place your order.
Please note: Our free shipping offer is only available for orders shipped to addresses within the continental United States or Canada.

Because then you'll get people that only want a buy character with blister costing $18 , and the postage fee itself will be $10
They charge free postage , and guess where they tax money to even the $10 with?
More price increase. Very no :<
