I bought a Hydra awhile ago from this guy and just got around to painting it, however when I stripped it I noticed the resin was white. I did some research on the internets and I guess that means its not "real" forge world, its a recast by an individual. It was pretty good quality and cheaper that the FW one, but I dunno about actually paying money for something that is "fake". Plus he stated that its Forge world.

Anyways he's got a bunch of stuff up all "primed black and dry brushed grey. but otherwise unused."

Hard to say whether or not it's repro or original. I wouldn't complain too much if the quality is good, it means that he's better than FW in terms of quality.

Looking at the amount of repetition, I think it's pretty suspicious. And that they are all primed is also eyebrow raising.

Um no I am not the seller, or posting to help him. Quite the opposite. I don't think Im the bad guy here, just cause I was a lurker. Plus I didn't want to start a flame war so I just stated the facts.

I think it does wave flags, but if the rumor stands true that the Leman Russ' turret collar is now a different size, he may just simply be off loading what he had purchased before. The priming thing is only as suspicious as the any number of pre-primered/poorly painted 40k models on ebay, in and unto itself it says nothing. Additionally you can't even judge by the resin, even between two kits of the same model, I've seen extreme variation in the coloration of the resin. From tan to dark grey.

The only way to really tell is to look for casting marks, like two set of mold lines, or pieces of sprue or mold feeds where there shouldn't be any. Also finding certain things like multiple parts cast into single ones. Otherwise there isn't anyway to tell. Shop at your own risk.

Would he draw attention to the fakeness of it if it were? I think he'd try drawing attention to it in the trading forum, if he just wanted to sell them.

I have had some forgeworld stuff that was almost a white and I know it was real as I bought it from Forgeworld itself hehe.

FW resin can come is quite a few colours: I've mostly had grey and green.

The only colors I've gotten for resin from FW are white and a codex/astronomicon greyish color.

Aye, greenish resin. My Elysians were mostly that colour. There's also the blueish stuff but I've come to hate that as my binned Baneblade came in that variant.

It's like selling bootleg movies on the street corner. You're selling copies of someone else's work. It's like selling Folex watches or Pruda bags. It's illegal. Most people don't seem to care that its illegal, though, only that its cheap.

There is something a bit suspicious about this.

Checking Inquisitor Bob's feedback shows no feedback since last year. Checking Completed Listings shows no sales in past 15 days.

It would be interesting to know when the OP purchased his item.

At the moment I would be advising all would be purchasers to be more than a little suspicious that they weren't being scammed (and I don't mean by fake product).

I do know some people that have bought that many turrets- but they also have the tanks to go with them. Sellin them like this, partially painted is suspect enough. But with one buyer already admitting hes gotten white resin they are obvious knock offs. FW hasnt used white/amber resin for several years now.

But hey, if they are good casts without bubbles.....

If they are crappy casts though- dont plan on being able to return them to FW for replacements lol.

Outing recasters is desirable, though pretty thorny business. I've had a couple of RT era metal figures that looked fishy, but unfortunately I couldn't get the suspicious aspects (double mold lines, some areas of lost detail) to show up well on photos, and didn't want to go around accusing people without something concrete to show (the figures in question have since been cleaned up and painted as a part of my collection). I'm also not well enough established on ebay to post any negative feedback on items without the repercussions from vengeful sellers seriously affecting my ability to bid on items in the future. The minis in question have been very low-priced so I'm personally not inconvenienced all that much, so me destroying my ebay credibility in return for making an accusation against the seller is really a bad deal.

All I've seen fit to do so far is to keep a blacklist of sellers who I've bought suspicious items from in the past.

The suspicion about the eBay auctions is perfectly reasonable, even though perhaps unfounded.

Dakka policy is against recasters. It is also against interference in other websites.

My buddy bought some used stuff off ebay and there were a lot of white resin copies in the batch, including a hydra turret (that was broken) and a couple Executioner turrets. They all looked like Forgeworld, except in white resin. Hmmm. The guy had also spilled some resin in his bitz box, there was a puddle with various parts and garbage stuck in it and a puddle that had Forgeworld skulls and purity seals cast in it. Can't recall who sold it to him, but he got ripped, considering most of it was literal garbage. We had to put gloves on to sort out the good from the bad and found sewing needles and all sorts of biohazards..

If they're recasts they look pretty good. Had I any money I'd pick up some Hydra turrets. I don't care if they're recasts or not.

Well it's illegal to sell them if they are recasts.

You should tell ebay security if you are concerned.

Please note on the auctions the picture for all the turrets are the same pic so you have no idea what you are getting.

Cut-rate copies hurt the manufacturer, who spends time and money 'up front' to design stuff, create masters, do the engineering bits of making workable designs, etc. The copier isn't adding anything to this.

I know picking on GW and Forge World is popular here, but I don't agree with this, as I know I'd be unhappy if some design I created was ripped off. It's not suddenly right because it's against the company with the bad reputation. (And I make fun of GW and FW, too, usually.)

All recasted?

Well, when you make something out of lead, that becomes more valuable than gold by weight, you cant be surprised when people start counterfeiting.

I believe that they're recast. The cannon in the first pic appears to have a warped barrel. Same with the top hydra barrels.

Also, used or not the seller wouldnt be profiting for selling an item for 1/3 of the cost if it was the real deal.
