Food network "Ace of Cakes" next Thursday, August 27th. The episode will feature the huge Squig cake made by Duff and crew for Baltimore Games Day 2009! I'm excited to see just how that beast of a confection was created.

I think I remember them saying the legs weren't edible, just the body. If you watch the episode, I'll be the goofy looking doofus with a backpack in the background. I'm sure that narrows it down.

It was delicious, and almost all of it was edible. It did have some support bits (as seen in the mouth) that were wood. Even the mushrooms were confectionary.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Honestly, I thought it was a tad dry. Of course, it was sitting out in the hall for most of the day, and I imagine you can't make it too moist if you're going to start building squigs out of it.
But hey, it was the first time I've ever eaten squig cake. 
I'll have to DVR that episode and try to catch a glimpse of my clubmates and I. I think they were filming in our direction a couple times.

I've heard most of their cakes are a bit dry, actually. Unfortunate result of them being 'art' more than 'dessert.' They're fine fresh, but they're out for days while being built. Most projects are done in a roughly 1-week period, so the cake may have been started on Monday to be delivered Saturday or Sunday.
(Wedding cakes are in much the same category where then tend not to be particularly good, especially after being out for everyone to 'ooh' and 'aah' over for an afternoon...)

It actually was a video game character. The cake is not just a red squig, but a Goblin Squig Herder in Squig Armor from Warhammer Online. (I played a squig herder for quite a while, it's near and dear to my heart) The stick in it's mouth is actually intentional, stuck in to prevent the squig from swallowing the goblin herder while he rides about inside.
