Ignoring the hat for a moment I was wondering if this says "carapace" to anyone? Is the shoulder build up too much?

This is a test of what I would like to do with my CCS. They will normally be fitted with carapace to keep my MOO toasty warm and safe.

I got a set of colour shapers and this is the first time of trying them out. Dear lord they are awesome for working with GS

Amazing job! I can't make my work with GS that smooth, no matter how long time i use. Nicely done

I'll take that as a "yes" vote then

Also get colour shapers... the secret to nice GS work appears to be having the right tools, as my previous attempts have been painful and mediocre, whereas I'm really rather pleased with this attempt

Fire4Effekt's comment notwithstanding, here is the finished product of GS carapace on my CCS. Not sure yet how to paint it, whether they should be in the same camo all over as the rest of my army, or if the plates should have a different finish (grey or black perhaps). Again I would like to thank Royal Sovereign for their excellent Colour Shaper product

Looks nice. Show some painted pics, then we'll be able to make a more informed comment. As far as I can tell, it looks great!

I say paint them in the same scheme as the rest of your army. Paint the body armor the same way as you paint hte body armor on the regular infantry.

Nice work!

These look good. Without seeing them painted though, I have to agree that the stomach plate may be too much. It's not turning me off the work, I just think it may be a detail that is not needed.

I want to know how you did the kneepads, frankly I'm wanting to do knee/elbowpads for all my Cadians, but...I'm pretty clueless when it comes to anything but filling gaps.

Thanks guys.

@Inner Geek - Are you talking about the main stomach protection or the lower groin plate? If you look at modern heavy armour you always see chunky abdominal armour hence that was the look I was going for. The normal Cadian torso armour is pretty is fine for the upper torso but not so hot for the lower abdomen. I think I will be painting the toerso armour in camo anyway so it should help bring the torso together. The knee, elbow and leg plates may well get done in a different colour to remind myself that they have extra gubbins on.

@Kanluwen - Its all about having the right tools. I used to be able to do filling only as the only tools I had were rather rubbish rigid plastic clay tools and my modelling knife. I was only able to get these guys done after I picked up some colour shapers. They allow a hell of a lot more control over the surface than my previous tools.

The knee pads were pretty simple as I just plonked a blob of GS on the knee and worked it into a reasonably square shape. Work the edges a bit until it looks a bit more angular like the Kasrkin knee pads and then stop before getting too involved in trying to make perfectly exact copies
