This has been my last months project:
The bits used where three Carnifex backs, a Carnifex Head, 2 sets of Carnifex Scything Talos, the old third edition tyrant, and Balrog wings.
Most of the torso is greenstuff:

For Scale:
The goal are Tyranids on an Ice Planet. So they are probably going to have an Ultramarine skin, and a bone white carapace.
The reverse of this scheme:
Here it is in Dawn of War:

Nicely done. At first glance I thought it was the Forgeworld one. And don't you mean three sets of Scything Talons?

Nice conversion! How come you didn't use any plastic in the torso, though?

Great modeling - that color scheme is solid as well. The only small critique is that the bug has 8 limbs with this conversion - 2 more than Id prefer. Its a challenge to get 2 sets of talons AND wings without going over the 6-limb limit thats for sure.
Anyway, like I said - its a small critique and in no way meant to take away from your conversion and paint scheme. She's really well put together.

That's truly a beast right there. The positioning/pose is awesome. Can't wait to see it painted. My only beef is that I can see some hefty mold lines on the left claw arms in the second picture.
I'm trying to find 3 sets of Balrog wings but I can't find them on bits sites. :(
Post it once you've painted it!

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports. Do you know that you can order them direct from GW?
Wings are one of the few bits things that GW still supply.
Nice conversion. My FLGS has an old tyrant sitting in the window and i've been meaning to pick it up and do something similar for a while.

Thank you for all the kind words. It's not a Insanik level conversion, but I am proud of it.
I did a test gaunt to nail down my color scheme, and I ended up with a lighter color of blue. I will post it later.
Let me try and answer some of the comments:
Nicely done. At first glance I thought it was the Forgeworld one. And don't you mean three sets of Scything Talons?
You are correct, I did need to use another set on the wings.
Nice conversion! How come you didn't use any plastic in the torso, though?
The challenge I gave my self here was to use what I have. I wanted to see if I can tackle Green Stuff Sculpting. So the "base" I started with was the tail and torso piece and one of the Carnifex's back plate. There was about a less the one half inch gap between the torso and the tail held together by a paperclip pin, and I used a further paperclip pin to connect the back of the torso to the back plate, leaving enough of a gap to sculpt around.
The first "layer" of Green Stuff was the basic shape of the body with the indentations for the arms and head (made by wetting the bits I had and using them to get what I needed). The rest of the project was just a long period of time sculpting small parts at a time. I would do 2 "ribs" then leave it set, and come back to it the next day, and just kept working on it until is was done. That way I could concentrate on one particulat part at a time, and I minimized the risk of messing a piece up but trying to sculpt too much at a time. The whole project took me about a month because I just had it on the back burner and worked about an hour a night on it.
Great modeling - that color scheme is solid as well. The only small critique is that the bug has 8 limbs with this conversion - 2 more than Id prefer. Its a challenge to get 2 sets of talons AND wings without going over the 6-limb limit thats for sure.
I don't view the wings as another "limb". Besides, the Tyranids are more Dinosour / Crustacean, then insect.
That's truly a beast right there. The positioning/pose is awesome. Can't wait to see it painted. My only beef is that I can see some hefty mold lines on the left claw arms in the second picture.
Before I started painting I did another once over. Thanks for catching that.
I'm trying to find 3 sets of Balrog wings but I can't find them on bits sites. :(
As others have mentioned, they are available on GW's site for $10.00. They are by far the best wings available.
That thing must be top-heavy.
Have you considered sticking both legs down? I'd be paranoid they guy would break off his base.
I though about a lot of different takes for the final pose. I made the base first, and I couldn't find a way to have both legs down that looked right. So I did what you see before you. There is a Paper Clip sized pin that connects the foot all the way down to the plastic base, so I am not too worried that it will break off.
As far as weight is concerned, it's not really that heavy. It is mostly Plastic and Green Stuff. The only Metal in the model is the tail, 70% of the torso, and the Head "plate".
Nice conversion. My FLGS has an old tyrant sitting in the window and i've been meaning to pick it up and do something similar for a while.
It's a big project. The Primary problem with that old model is the arm sockets are too small for the new arms. I had to totally re-sculpt that portion of the model to get them to work.
I really like the wings you have got there.
Brillant conversion.
It's a running joke in my group "there are no wings but the Balrog Wings".

That is a neat color scheme. The carapace looks almost like marble or a ceramic type plating, very very swish. Nice work.
