Game 2!
With one total victory under my belt, I'm feeling good about this new list. After hearing that a few other Lebanon guys only took draws, I was feeling even better! The pairs were called and I end up playing Devin. Devin is another Lebanon player who runs a rather mean, AND purely Slaanesh Daemon army. We've locked horns before and its always a hard fight.
We'll be playing Pitched Battle, Annihilation.
Slaanesh Daemon list (If I remember correctly)
Keeper of Secrets
The Masque
Slaanesh Chariot Herald
4x 12 girl strong packs of Daemonetts (That might be wrong, he runs a "fluff" number. 18 maybe? If its 18 he then runs 3 packs.)
2x 2 Seekers, 1 Seeker Champ
3x Soulgrinders
H'garian Imperial Guard list
Creed, Kell, 3
CCW, Astropath
CCS, 4 Meltas
Priest with Eviserator
Al'rahem Command, with Commissar and Flamer
Al'rahem Platoon with 40 guardsmen, 5 Powersword Sergeants, 3 Meltas, 2 Flamers.
Harker with 3 Meltas and Chimera
Vendetta
Vendetta
3x Lascannon Scout Sentinels
2x Medusa, ECC
Medusa, ECC (bait)
So, we get assigned to a LAVA board, with trenches of lava on one side and a massive hill/cliff section on the other. Hills and ruins dot the center.
We roll to see who picks. I win the roll again! (woo) I choose to go 2nd. As Daemons do, he deploys nothing. I deploy my one bait Medusa over in the corner, "mostly" hidden.
Top of turn one comes and Devin rolls to see which group of Daemons arrives. Unfortunatly, it's the group he DIDN'T want. So, Soulgrinders, Masque, and 1 group of girls arrive. The Soulgrinder going after my Medusa fires, but it scatters off board. The Daemonette squad rolls for run, but only gets 1 inch. So they don't scatter to much.
Bottom of one, and my Medusa fires! Also missing....
Top of two, almost everything (I'm sure to his disapointment) arrives from reserves. One group of Seekers will stay out, but otherwise everything makes it on. The Soulgrinder near the Medusa fires and charges, munching the Tank to bits. Nom nom nom. The newly arrived girls land near his other group (whom have a banner) and then try to run. With nothing on the field to aim at, his movement and drops tend to stay center. The remaining Soulgrinders try to put their tails against the hill to protect flank shots.
Bottom of two, almost everything of mine (Woo, go Astropath) arrives. Dang! I'm dropp'n in on Daemons! How many times does that happen? The glory seeking melta
CCS goes West, while everything else goes East. The Medusas set up shop on the Hill/ Cliff, 25 of my Infantry platoon set up on top of the hill, 26 (odd numbers because of attached priest) set up BEHIND hill. The
CCS takes out the Soulgrinder, the Medusas fire missing their intended target, but still manage to toss wounds on the Seekers, and take out a few Daemonettes. The Infantry blob takes "Incomming" orders from Creed, same as Al'rahem. (Yay for 2+ cover for 25 models in the open) The Vendettas fire at the closest Soulgrinders, but neither managed to do lasting damage. (DANG you Daemonic Possesion!)
Top of three, Devins last Seeker group arrives, Keeper moves towards
CCS, and every Daemon on the board... RUNS AWAY??? Yes, thats right. Everything on the table of his moved West. Fleeting as fast as they could. Which, playing a Kill point game, and knowing he has already scored 1, and has another easy 2 is just trying to prevent me from being able to gain any more then I have (1). Keeper and Masque blow the
CCS to bits. The Soulgrinders return fire on the Vendettas but only manage to Stun the west Vendetta. That bumps down to Shaken! Yay Extra Armor.
Bottom of four, my Sentinels and Harker both arrive. The Stunned Vendetta tries a desperate gamble to escape and boosts 2 feet. The Medusa's fire, but find they are JUST out of range of my Target. The Sentinels fire at the center Soulgrinder, wrecking it. The Vendetta tries for the other Soulgrinder, but once again, can't put lasting damage on it. Creed, once again, orders everyone "INCOMMING".
Top of five. Keeper and last Soulgrinder run, fleet, and charge the stunned Vendetta. The Keeper fails the last bit of Difficult terrian, and misses the charge by 2 inches. The Soulgrinder, however, does not. With a mighty sweep of his claw, plucks the Aircraft from the sky. Boom, 3 Kill points to 2. Movement phase just saw everything run and fleet west.
Bottom of five. Vendetta toasts Soulgrinder, Sentinels nuke 1 Seeker. At this point he's out of ranged weapons, and too far away to get into Close combat. I'm feeling good.
Top of six. Knowing he's fighting for a tie, his wounded Seekers fleet west. His most expensive
HQ (which, if I kill, I get a bonus point for) flee's west. One group of Daemonettes go for my deployment zone (to get HIM 1 bonus point. I've already had scoring units in his deployment, so I already had that +1) No more guns to fire.
Bottom of six. All guns on Seekers. With 6 Lascannons, the last two go down. Woo! 4 Kill points for me! With that, Devin reaches across, and declares game over. I start to point out we might go round 7, and thus I might get his Keeper, but we look and do some quick math and find he's out of range of being killed. (1 Lascannon round would'nt do it) So, Victory to me, with a +1 bonus. Devin got some of his Daemonettes into my Deployment and got his +1 as well.
Once again, this list just completely confused my opponent. He didn't want to walk into Medusa fire, and REALLY didn't want to get close enough for my 50 some odd guys to triple tap (First Rank, Second Rank) his girls to death. The entire game he just fought a battle to not lose kill points. (Both times the Soulgrinders died, it was during the ONE turn they each had their backside turned to lascannons.) As an added bonus to this list, it really puts the game on it's side. You start playing a game on a 6 foot board, thats only 4 feet wide. Also, the hill/cliff terrain REALLY helped, as it gave my boys and the Medusa's nearly unobstructed view of the battlefield. With two wins under my belt. I go into the 3rd round, fighting for 2nd. 2 others had higher win bonus's, and so would be fighting for 1st, but still. This being the first time ever playing this list (no playtesting) I was feeling goooood.
