Well, me and the boys were looking foward to driving down to Londonderry, NH to play in their 2k Tourney on the 12th. Having come down just a month prior for a 1750 tourney, and walking out with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Best Painted, we were feeling pretty good. We were looking foward to meeing the new friends of the last month, and new local players (as not many showed for their 1750). I ran a 2000 point list which can be found here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/267665.page

With this many points, and having nearly all my guys Outflank, I was feeling good about surprising most of my opponents. (Its like fighting Daemons... but with lots and lots of guns!) So, with the help of Vassal, here's my First Round.

Dee v. Rob
(IG v Necrons)

We were set on a rather barren Desert Table. BIG hills on either side, one in the center, and just a little bit of LOS blocking terrian. No Area Terrian to be found. The few houses that were there we claimed to be impassable before we chose sides. Not to bad for the guard. Even worse when we're all coming in on the edge.

So, I win the die roll, and choose to go 2nd. He deploys, then I place my single "bait" Medusa, then his Deciever goes and re-deploys his stuff. Deciever holds his objective, his Scarbs, Immortals, and Spyders hug his 12inches from the center line. We shake and Rob starts the game.

The groups split up, One pack of Immortals and Spyder head to my deployment, while the others, plus Scarb swarms, head at the Medusa. Some fireing happens, but nothing effects the Medusa. Also, each Spyder makes a Scarb baby. One even rolls a 1 and takes a wound because of it.

Bottom of 1, Medusa backs up a bit and then fires. It misses it's target of Immortals, but scatters just back a bit. Enough to obliterate the Spyder and baby, plus 2 Immortals eat shrapnel. Woot. Go baby Go!

He rolls to see shows up. All three of his Warrior squads arrive and 1 Monolith. (Only this left now is single Monolith) The warriors walk on, unsure where they will be needed. The Monolith doesn't have alot of options trying to get to the Medusa. The image doesn't nearly come close to the amount of impassable and rock terrian that was in my deployment quarter. He lands, shoots, but some high rocks give me a save. As the words "I never make my cover saves" leave my lips, a 4 rolls on the dice. The Medusa is spared. For now.

Nearly EVERYTHING arrives for me. With the help of my Astropath, they all come in on his objective side. The dual Medusa's fail to show. Rolling a 1 on a 3+. 56 Men walk on, 2 Vendettas, 3 Las-Sentinals, Harker and his Vet team inside Chimera all make their presence known. The look on Robs face as nearly 1500 points of Guard roll up his flank was priceless. Bait Medusa fires again, scattering a bit, but still managing 2 more Immortals. Any, and every weapon that just arrives fires at the deciever. Dispite putting 7 wounding hits on him. He only takes 2 due to his 4+ invulnerble. Oh Crap, if he gets inside my 50 man blob.....

His Scarbs make a hasty jetbike boost to get to the other side of the board. Deciever charges the poor CCS with 4 meltas. Eating them all. Nom nom nom. The terrian which he was hoping would protect his army from my fire, now is getting all in his way... LOS from most of his army is blocked. Dispite this, his Southern group of Immortals blows off a Lascannon from Creed's Vendetta.

With a mighty "CREEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!!" 2 Medusa's show up on his edge. The newly ownerless Vedetta blasts 2 feet to try to pick up Harker to make it a scoring Skimmer. With the Lascannons, and Meltas in the area, the Deciever finnally goes down. Then blows up in a 6inch radius, with str6, no armor saves. OUCH. Al'rahem dies along with his entire 6 man group. Creed's squad gets hit, killing all but the Big man himself. (Well, Kell, upon taking his fatal hit, grabs the wound allocated to Creed on his way out "Sir, its an Honor to die for you, Sir!") The Southern Immoral Squad eats two Direct blasts, obliterating the 10 man Immortals. The Scarb and baby get cut down by Vendetta fire (or maybe Sentinel fire.. I dont remember) Rob is looking very worried at this point.

At this point, I skipped to the end with my Vassal pic making. Scarb swarm Charged my 50 man blob, only to get hacked to pieces by the 5 hidden powerswords. Then nearly 25 basic attacks... lots of Scarb bits everywhere. The bait Medusa ends up becomming Immobile, but still tosses shots at his Robots trying to hide behind terrian. The closest 10 man warrior squad turns the corner and doubletaps, nuking a few guardsmen. Creed (solo at this time) yells at them, something about "Go Cadia! Woo!!!" And the 50 (well, 35 at this point I think) man charges the Warriors and kills them all. We play till the end of 5. But at this point. His warriors die as soon as a Medusa can spot them, and the Monoliths are too slow and too South to help. All in all. 2000k of IG outflank worked well! I loved playing it. Such a differnent playstyle from MechVets.

I LOVE your list!!! It is something I was thinking about, but you put it into action!!!

I am not sure you can use the astropath's ability though when he is off board.....nevertheless, I would like to find out how you did!!

Can't wait for your other reports..excellent work with the pics from vassal!!

Game 2!
With one total victory under my belt, I'm feeling good about this new list. After hearing that a few other Lebanon guys only took draws, I was feeling even better! The pairs were called and I end up playing Devin. Devin is another Lebanon player who runs a rather mean, AND purely Slaanesh Daemon army. We've locked horns before and its always a hard fight.

We'll be playing Pitched Battle, Annihilation.

Slaanesh Daemon list (If I remember correctly)
Keeper of Secrets
The Masque
Slaanesh Chariot Herald
4x 12 girl strong packs of Daemonetts (That might be wrong, he runs a "fluff" number. 18 maybe? If its 18 he then runs 3 packs.)
2x 2 Seekers, 1 Seeker Champ
3x Soulgrinders

H'garian Imperial Guard list
Creed, Kell, 3 CCW, Astropath
CCS, 4 Meltas
Priest with Eviserator
Al'rahem Command, with Commissar and Flamer
Al'rahem Platoon with 40 guardsmen, 5 Powersword Sergeants, 3 Meltas, 2 Flamers.
Harker with 3 Meltas and Chimera
Vendetta
Vendetta
3x Lascannon Scout Sentinels
2x Medusa, ECC
Medusa, ECC (bait)

So, we get assigned to a LAVA board, with trenches of lava on one side and a massive hill/cliff section on the other. Hills and ruins dot the center.

We roll to see who picks. I win the roll again! (woo) I choose to go 2nd. As Daemons do, he deploys nothing. I deploy my one bait Medusa over in the corner, "mostly" hidden.

Top of turn one comes and Devin rolls to see which group of Daemons arrives. Unfortunatly, it's the group he DIDN'T want. So, Soulgrinders, Masque, and 1 group of girls arrive. The Soulgrinder going after my Medusa fires, but it scatters off board. The Daemonette squad rolls for run, but only gets 1 inch. So they don't scatter to much.

Bottom of one, and my Medusa fires! Also missing....

Top of two, almost everything (I'm sure to his disapointment) arrives from reserves. One group of Seekers will stay out, but otherwise everything makes it on. The Soulgrinder near the Medusa fires and charges, munching the Tank to bits. Nom nom nom. The newly arrived girls land near his other group (whom have a banner) and then try to run. With nothing on the field to aim at, his movement and drops tend to stay center. The remaining Soulgrinders try to put their tails against the hill to protect flank shots.

Bottom of two, almost everything of mine (Woo, go Astropath) arrives. Dang! I'm dropp'n in on Daemons! How many times does that happen? The glory seeking melta CCS goes West, while everything else goes East. The Medusas set up shop on the Hill/ Cliff, 25 of my Infantry platoon set up on top of the hill, 26 (odd numbers because of attached priest) set up BEHIND hill. The CCS takes out the Soulgrinder, the Medusas fire missing their intended target, but still manage to toss wounds on the Seekers, and take out a few Daemonettes. The Infantry blob takes "Incomming" orders from Creed, same as Al'rahem. (Yay for 2+ cover for 25 models in the open) The Vendettas fire at the closest Soulgrinders, but neither managed to do lasting damage. (DANG you Daemonic Possesion!)

Top of three, Devins last Seeker group arrives, Keeper moves towards CCS, and every Daemon on the board... RUNS AWAY??? Yes, thats right. Everything on the table of his moved West. Fleeting as fast as they could. Which, playing a Kill point game, and knowing he has already scored 1, and has another easy 2 is just trying to prevent me from being able to gain any more then I have (1). Keeper and Masque blow the CCS to bits. The Soulgrinders return fire on the Vendettas but only manage to Stun the west Vendetta. That bumps down to Shaken! Yay Extra Armor.

Bottom of four, my Sentinels and Harker both arrive. The Stunned Vendetta tries a desperate gamble to escape and boosts 2 feet. The Medusa's fire, but find they are JUST out of range of my Target. The Sentinels fire at the center Soulgrinder, wrecking it. The Vendetta tries for the other Soulgrinder, but once again, can't put lasting damage on it. Creed, once again, orders everyone "INCOMMING".

Top of five. Keeper and last Soulgrinder run, fleet, and charge the stunned Vendetta. The Keeper fails the last bit of Difficult terrian, and misses the charge by 2 inches. The Soulgrinder, however, does not. With a mighty sweep of his claw, plucks the Aircraft from the sky. Boom, 3 Kill points to 2. Movement phase just saw everything run and fleet west.

Bottom of five. Vendetta toasts Soulgrinder, Sentinels nuke 1 Seeker. At this point he's out of ranged weapons, and too far away to get into Close combat. I'm feeling good.

Top of six. Knowing he's fighting for a tie, his wounded Seekers fleet west. His most expensive HQ (which, if I kill, I get a bonus point for) flee's west. One group of Daemonettes go for my deployment zone (to get HIM 1 bonus point. I've already had scoring units in his deployment, so I already had that +1) No more guns to fire.

Bottom of six. All guns on Seekers. With 6 Lascannons, the last two go down. Woo! 4 Kill points for me! With that, Devin reaches across, and declares game over. I start to point out we might go round 7, and thus I might get his Keeper, but we look and do some quick math and find he's out of range of being killed. (1 Lascannon round would'nt do it) So, Victory to me, with a +1 bonus. Devin got some of his Daemonettes into my Deployment and got his +1 as well.

Once again, this list just completely confused my opponent. He didn't want to walk into Medusa fire, and REALLY didn't want to get close enough for my 50 some odd guys to triple tap (First Rank, Second Rank) his girls to death. The entire game he just fought a battle to not lose kill points. (Both times the Soulgrinders died, it was during the ONE turn they each had their backside turned to lascannons.) As an added bonus to this list, it really puts the game on it's side. You start playing a game on a 6 foot board, thats only 4 feet wide. Also, the hill/cliff terrain REALLY helped, as it gave my boys and the Medusa's nearly unobstructed view of the battlefield. With two wins under my belt. I go into the 3rd round, fighting for 2nd. 2 others had higher win bonus's, and so would be fighting for 1st, but still. This being the first time ever playing this list (no playtesting) I was feeling goooood.

BOOYA DEEWALLA! Nice Battle Report, excellent Battling! Good to see your hard listbuilding work paid off. I love seeing all those characters working towards the same goal... I'll put some questions about the list in it's thread...

Fun and Fluff for the Win!

Ah, he had an good comment on outfanking on 1 side versus objective grabbing, but a good game nevertheless. It is difficult to clean up a huge ork mob already on objectives..only a good assault can do that.....or lots of flamers....

Anyway, it was still a good fight! What more can you ask for?

I had the honor of picking tables for this game. I made a vital flaw picking one with so much area terrian. Should of re-picked one of my earlier boards that had not a speck of cover. Might have changed things.

Absolutely LOVED Al'rahem just going all ninja on THREE mega armored nobs. One sweep, three Nob heads roll.

Great reports, the first player (necrons) played wrong as warriors HAVE to deploy through the lith if you have one (if you cannot they remain in reserve). And you really needed a commissar I reckon, that bad creed roll on the last game lost it for ya

Great reports! Makes me want to play guard.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.
